#394Latest update:
The infectious disease team was just here (1 PM hour) and I was able to ask questions about taking Andy out of sedation and how he reacts. The doctor stated he is breathing more stable and he is doing more on his own with the ventilator. She explained the why and how they (ICU) are trained to react. One doctor gave us ideas when they are waking him to help keep him calm. I am so thankful this team took the time to answer questions and explain. This morning I was on a roller coaster ride as it felt like things were getting worse when they gave me the news that his kidney function was declining. The ID team also stated that the first week is the toughest, it is a really long road but she felt very hopeful. I imagine (when you think positive things, positive things happen) we will be here for a couple more weeks to get him stabilized enough to bring him back to MN via medical air.
What the actual penetrate is going on?Comment -

#403Just got this email:
Prayers and support still needed. A little over a week after Andy was admitted into the critical care unit, he still remains intubated and in critical condition. Many doctors have been added to #teamandy, who are monitoring his breathing, kidney function, neurological status, and vitals. He continues to power through, despite knowing what virus started this unbelievable tailspin.
Mindy is hopeful and positive and stays by his side almost 24/7. Friends and family are pouring in support but it is crucial to pass on that even after the hospital stays, Andy and family will need our help.
Keep up the fight Andy, we love you!Comment -

Miller Lite
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 1 hour ago
Last night pictures began flowing in from college friends and family all having a beer for 'Fargo' Andy. His brother placed one for him in his favorite fishing spot. (I could only add 5 pics and there were more) I even got to join in as I had one with dinner when I went to go shower. Andy had a surprise visitor as well, one of his best friends from college showed up to see him. Dan told him all about his fantasy football team.
Yesterday a Nerphrologist (kidney) doctor joined #TEAMANDY. She stated his numbers were high but she wanted to check them again to make an informed decision. This morning they stated they are going to do Lasix therapy (Lasix (furosemide) is a loop diuretic (water pill) that prevents your body from absorbing too much salt. This allows the salt to instead be passed in your urine. Lasix is used to treat fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, liver disease, or a kidney disorder such as nephrotic syndrome.) Although his creatinine numbers are high, his urine output is still good.
Yesterday they were not able to get an MRI done because he is on 3 medications they cannot remove in order to keep him stable. The MRI only is set up to run 2 medications. The team was able to complete a CT scan where they found a clouded area with possible Mastoiditis. An ENT doctor will join #TEAMANDY.
Last night Andy's fever remained around 101.4. We may be trying a sedation vacation, today which means we will try and wake him up a bit. The last two times we did this it was hard because it impacted his vitals. I think as long as the team is ready, then I (We) can be ready to support him as well and make him feel more comfortable through the process. He looks good and is fighting hard.
Thank you for all your prayers, messages, and surprises! We love you all and thank you for the support.

#406Shit like this really hits home
I'm really hard on my body, between alcohol, stimulants and whatever somebody has on them for a night out....this really makes me sad because I am sure Bigday takes much better care of himself than I do
Having 2 young kids of my own, seeing something like this makes me realize that I really need to reevaluate my horrible lifestyle choices. Just not sure I'm strong enough to do so.
I often shy away from threads like these...not sure how to respond, or contribute. I'm a pretty emotional guy, and anyone who know me knows that I wear my heart on my sleeve. Loyalty and honesty is all I have, and I take pride in knowing that i can look anyone in the eye....and I just want to tell you guys that reading this thread has made me shed some tears.
Seeing strangers and acquaintances going through such great lengths to make a difference for someone going through an ordeal like this has given me optimism that I haven't had in many years. The world has not seemed very positive for a long time.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone here. You have not only been doing great things for Bigday, you've also given me an opportunity to be optimistic about my future and the future of my family.Comment -

#407Twister it's a family here. It's been shown from the high of the bash to the intense and mysterious low we are now in today.
We are a family and there are more than plenty of good people here at SBR.
We can all see it.

#410I have never met him personally but have liked him since seeing his videos , support over Angelman , and his humor .
Seems like an all around good guy you want around when the shit hits the fan .
Many things happen in life that's unexplainable and you'll never find the answer , had 5 major surgeries, never asked God or a higher power why , you'll never get an explanation and will get even angrier which does nobody any good whatsoever .
I'm praying Big Day pulls out of it , the kidney issue is no joke either , I only have one . Hopefully they can get ahead of it quickly .
Honestly I've seen his wife post about positive attitude , it's astounding what it can do to a person's character simply by being positive , helped me more than once .
I've made the comment to many that the late Jim Valvano stated " Don't give up , don't ever give up " ..Truly words to live by , not just a phrase . Big Day , I'm certain lives by that same philosophy.
Keep positive , family , friends and everyone , it does wonders and hoping he turns for the better in the next day or so . Fighters don't give up , expect nothing less than that from Big Day .
God bless the family and Big Day on turning the corner .Comment -
