#38Never been to Vegas so dont know much.
Got an offer from expedia for vegas hotels but need to book in next 35 mins if I want to take discount.
I was thinking of booking the Bellagio or Venetian previously, just because I ‘think’ they are right in the middle of the strip and best locations?
Price isnt a big issue but I'd prefer to spend less than more of course. I don’t care about magnificent room as much as I want great location. Booking is for Sat/Sun/Mon nights.
Here’s my choices…. Prices are in Australian dollars. US$ is ¾ of that number. So $1000 = $750us, $500 = $375us
Cosmopolitan $1075
Bellagio $1020
Ceasers $1010
Palazzo $1000
Encrore @ Wynn $980
Venetian $970
Aria $970
Wynn LV $910
Planet Hollywood $890
Mirage $840
Jockey Resort Suites Center Strip $690
Paris LV $690 (discounted from $900)
MGM Grand $650
Luxor $630
W $600 (discounted from $950)
SLS $570
NY NY $540
Flamingo $540
Treasure Island $520 (discounted from $700)
Monte Carlo $515 (usually $690)
Hilton Grand @ Flamngo $500
Harrahs $500
Bally’s $480
Polo Towers $480 (down from$820)
Linq $450 (down from $600)
Hilton Grand Vacations on Strip $430
Excalibur $360 (down from $470)
Stratosphere $290 (down from $410)
Circus Circus $272 down from $410)
Pick the best value/location for me?
Leaning the W right now as stayed with them before in Sydney and are one the best I've experienced... but not certain how accessible everything is from it?Comment -

#40Stayed at many on your list. Easy choice based on your prices: Aria or Polo Towers. Both great locations. Both big rooms. Aria much nicer plus has a (decent) casino. Polo no casino but it's half a block walk to strip and right next to liquor store which is amazingly convenient.
IMO, best lower-price 'strip' options are polo towers or mgm signature suites. Best higher-price strip options are Aria/Vdara or Cosmo.
Have fun!!! BOLComment -

#41I lived there for years and your head will spin with all the options. Remember, you will spend a small amount of time in your room, so you will enjoy Vegas where ever you stay. The only reccomendation I would give to a newbie is to take advantage of the deals you can get thru the las vegas advisor.com. Lot's of great 2 for 1 deals. Enjoy your stay. Also, when I lived there, I drove a cab. If you take a cab,
DO NOT take the tunnel. Make sure you tell the cabbie that right away when leaving the airport. It is a rip off. Ask to go down Paradise.Comment -

#42Paris, Harrahs, Ceasers, Flamingo, etc they are all in the middle of all the action, and part of Ceasers "Total Rewards" program, which you'll want to sign up for ASAP upon arrival. That's they key, get those perks and the prices keep dropping every time you return!Comment -

#43Opti, I watched some Aussie films recent. Wolf Creek in particular. From what I could tell, you guys take saving water to an unreal extreme. Most of the people (boys and girls) hadn't taken a bath in days/weeks. Given that I am now aware of the culture there, I think you will be much more at home if u stay downtown at the El Cortez. Plus, great coupons there. GLComment -

#54Cabs are a dying business. Glad I got out when I did. I feel sorry for my buddies trying to hack in Vegas now. Taxi biz down overall 25 percent nation wide. For what it is worth, I never took someone the long way or ripped someone off. I don't know how those uber/lyft guys make in Vegas though. Most rides are short on strip. Glad it is part of my past, though.Comment -

#55Ended up booking at Paris LV.
I have a car btw. Bit of a car guy. Hired a Dodge Challenger, some American metal for my American road trip.
Going to do a few laps of a race circuit in a Corvette and a Shelby Mustang too.
Although if I am not walking, I do plan to Uber it around the strip area if needed.

#57If MGM Grand is a West Wing room and you're travelling with other people, avoid. It's a shoe box and the bathroom doesn't even have a door. If it's one of their more conventional rooms, then that's the best value.
Overall, I would say Wynn. I can't believe Caesars is more. The only resort I would consider that cost more than Wynn is Palazzo.Comment -

#58I've stayed at both hotels, and this post doesn't make any sense to me. Pretty identical places, except Palazzo seems quieter in the casino to me. Rooms are the same, and it's a two minute walk through the connecting hallway to go from one casino to the other.Comment -

Seriously cannot find anything above a 2 star, or a 3 star in a shitty neighborhood, for the avg nightly price at Paris. Going to cost more for a Tue/Wed night in LA than a 3 night weekend in Vegas..Comment -

JayVegas was right... these bastards did double charge the resort fee that Expedia said was included.
Showed this screenhot to the hotel reception and they still said I was mistaken and somehow that does not mean the fee was included in what I paid expedia to book.
Is there any way I am wrong here? Cant believe the woman at the desk looked at that and still said resort fee was extra..Comment -

Vegas just raised their hotel taxes. I booked my room for March Madness and in the fine print, it told me I'd be paying more than I originally thought. Some sites break down the cost of the room, tax, and resort fee better than others. I know on Hotels.com, they highlight the price in bold and it says the cost of your room. On the next line down, it says when you arrive at the hotel, you will also pay: $xxx (usually the resort fee). Then, it will say the TOTAL cost of the stay = $xxxx. You have to read it carefully, Vegas always tries to make you forget about the resort fee & tax which can add up, especially on an extended stay.
Also, for the future, sign up for MLife, Harrah's Total Rewards, etc. and book through them or book direct with the hotel if they have a deal. It will always be cheaper than Expedia, Hotels.com, Kayak, Orbitz, etc. Not by a ton, but it helps to cushion the useless resort fees...and now parking fees for MGM properties.Comment -

Well put! Thats what it felt like talking to her.... A Jedi Mind Trick!!
You rarely pay the resort fee ahead of time. Hotels.com, even MLife won't let you pay for everything ahead of time. The sites will show you the final price, but you are still going to settle up with the Hotel when you check in. Then, they usually throw a resort fee or $50-$100 on your card as a hold or for room charges/mini bar. I'd look at your detailed bill from Expedia and be sure they charged you for the resort fee. Your beef, if you have one, will be with them.

So the Jedi mind trick lady may have been correct after all.
Still it felt confusing her looking at that and still saying no that does not mean the fee is included
I have really loved 99% of things about America and mostly the people this trip, but have to say these 'tricks' where you never know the real price of anything up front gets a bit disconcerting sometimes. Was told doctor would cost $99 and anti-biotics about $40 today before I went in... by the end was about $200 with taxes and fees and whatever else they add afterward.
Anyway... have had a great time apart from last couple of days so sick so not going to penny pinch about it. Honestly think Vegas hotels are good value even with the resort fee. Cant imagine any other major city in the world where I could get a room like this in a 'grand hotel' for near the price..Comment -
