That's a perfectly valid viewpoint, but I'm actually a bit of an ETH skeptic. P4man, a well respected poster at Reddit / Slack / BCT (and full disclosure: a friend of mine), wrote an interesting piece on the subject last summer: https://www.coindesk.com/analyzing-e...keptical-take/

Since he wrote that in June, BTC's up over 100% vs ETH which is up about 10%.

One thing's for sure: I hear a lot less about "The Flippening" these days than I used to. Call me old fashioned, I guess, but even now when I'm 'lighter' in BTC than usual, it still makes up over 60% of my total crypto holdings.

MeanPeopleSuck, that is one great article. He articulated very well my clumsily expressed thoughts posted recently in a history lesson where I concluded that "Sometimes being first beats being better". You have great friends. If he's written anything else on cryptocurrencies, I'd like to see it.

I think that rumor's true, but I'm not totally sure about its magnitude. You can already buy anything at Amazon and most online stores with BTC purchased gift cards: https://www.gyft.com/buy-gift-cards/ or BTC funded debit cards like Bitpay or Coinsbank.

IMHO, the King Kong of unsolved problems is at the register. Until somebody can buy something at a store, walk up to the register and pay with BTC in, say, 60 seconds or less, we'll never be able to displace cc's, which I think should be goal #1. (I'm not saying this will happen tomorrow, but if -- if -- BTC could steal the market cap of the top 3 cc companies, that alone would value each bitcoin at about $55,000 -- I suck at math, but I'm guessing most people reading this thread would be pretty pleased with numbers like that).

And here's the exciting part: if we can solve the "delay for a confirmation" problem at the register, retailers might adopt BTC very very quickly because BTC has two huge advantages for retailers over cc's: there's no chargebacks and there's no fees. Cc's have both.

BTC's slack is easy to join. Just click the "Slack Live Chat" button along the right of this page and the bot will walk you through it (heh, actually, I see joining has changed a little since I did it, but the bot should have your back): https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/

I don't know why, but ETH's slack is dead. Instead, here's where you wanna be, the mecca of all things ETH: https://gitter.im/ethereum/home

The quality of slacks for lesser cryptos varies widely, but you can get auto invites for most of them directly from that crypto's reddit thread (google "reddit [crypto],") or if you don't see an obvious way to get from the reddit thread to the slack, post a, "Hi, I'm interested in [crypto]. Do you guys have a Slack? How do I join?" message there. Micro-cryptos tend to cream their jeans over newly interested people.

Yeah, excellent call. Tomorrow I'll get a thread up for the upcoming fork and we can kick around some ideas about what pricing craziness might happen before, during and after the hf.

Something this big's gotta have some profitable angles to it, don't you reckon? But so far I'm having trouble seeing them. Ah, well, fake it till ya make it, right?

if you bought early wednesday morning like I said and sold earlier today, you made 12% on your money in one day... can't get that kind of return anywhere else in a day

vERY nice. On the retail side, I see that one can book Travel at some sites. Destinia looks pretty good.

I know Expedia advertises use of Bitcoin, but I see that it's only for Hotels, not Flights. I wonder if they had some issues on Flights.

What about the mining fees? The current high fees makes using BTC for small purchases not practical.

Last edited by LVHerbie; 10-30-17, 03:47 AM.
