Only read the first half of the article. They never mention if Sal was charging the undercover pig juice or not. A couple paragraphs in the article reads;
"the games were legal so long as no one took a “rake,” or a cut of the stakes. No one had, but police claimed the $5 the hosts charged players to buy refreshments qualified as a rake."

so that basically proves cops will fudge anything to say you took rake by claiming money collected for pizza and beer is rake. i dont think he was charging juice since it started with friendly betting between friends. but even if the law says its legal if you dont have juice how exactly could you prove no juice on sports betting? if you bet at even money on a point spread there is probably some site where the spread is different and would be an even money bet at the spread you bet while still being juiced.

I was at a poker club in Texas that got raided about 9 years ago. It was pretty crazy all the doors crashing in then having swat pointing guns at us. The players got misdimeanor charges and the guys running the place got felonies. I got off on a technicality.
