Spider's correct; USA always smokes everyone in points during qualifiers, but struggles in high-variance format. Managed to win last year pretty soundly despite being down at least half a player, hopefully we can repeat

Hoping to make the Confederates (3650 points right now).. hate turbos, especially ones that pretty much turn into all in fests in the final 4 or 5 people. 4 handed will require much better play, IMO.

Just sucks needing to dodge all the landmines in the 40 person turbos to try and sneak onto the team, when I'd pretty much be guaranteed a spot with only a couple weeks left on Team World or Canada.

DS and others had the excellent idea to have players drafted by top players as captains; hope they do something like that in the future, but I understand that World Cup fits the marketing better.

That would be nice, top 4 players are captains then the next 44 players are draft eligible. Prevents a sole 2nd place finish from making a team while people who won multiple tournies and have 20+ cashes are left out.

Yup yup yup...wish I had time to run something like it this series, but too busy IRL. Had a pretty good format worked up too, so hoping I have the time to run this for the fall poker series and prove it's viable

why wouldn't you renew? guaranteed at least 750 points from finals, and expected return from world cup is more than the cost to renew.

didn't you win sbr bash tourney for big pile of cash? that should be good for lifetime of renewals

That's always been the best thing about this tourney. USA coming last 3 years in a row and STILL complaining it's all variance.

God help you all if we win again this year; with 2 data points we'd have enough confirmation to declare that we've won all the ones that matter

Seriously though, good bit of variance in the format...but also a good bit of skill in a format which is drastically different than the qualifying one. Guys who play ultra-conservative every day in the qualifiers can make their way onto a team but be way behind skill-wise in the 4-player tourneys where a different game is required. FWIW, I think the USA has had the better 4-player tourney team last couple years, and still does as it currently stands....whether the difference is enough remains to be seen

There you go talking family again. They are entirely overrated. This is the SBR World Poker Cup. Comes around once a year, can almost guarantee family will be there when he is done.

I am just trolling hoping by some chance he takes me serious. He does need to get his priorities straight and the World Cup should be at the top of that priority list.
