Yea I’ve seen the star set one more recently but don’t remember hearing much about it back then.,

I just don’t remember 80s tops cards being worth shit, maybe I’m mistaken.

If you scour hard and long enough (I've been at it all day), you can find beauty finds. I'm not going to show you my best ones but lets just say I've found a popular hockey player from the 1960's, graded 8, which sells for between $160 and $320 USD and there's been no auctions or sales reported of a card graded higher however there is one 9 known to exist... The bid was at $2 with 3 days to go. Obviously it's likely that someone smart comes in and swoops in on my $50 max bid but it's fun to hunt and hope.

Resell... or hold then resell. I invested in Claude Giroux when he got drafted hoping he would get a scoring title or a cup but that didn't pan out. You win some, you lose some so you gotta enjoy it. So you will try to buy it in Ebay for $50 or less then turn around and list it back on Ebay and try to get $160-$320?

Or am I missing something?

Yes. I've been studying closed auction listings on PSA website and it seems "But It Now" always seems to fetch a better price than auction (except for rarest of rare cards) and there's lots of data to back up the sale, suggesting it's good value (i.e. I can point them to the PSA website with tons of closed auctions at $200+ so as long as I can get in under $50 or so, the profit should be easy. I just have a feeling that I'm naive and people don't snipe up last minute auctions that are under valued. It is possible though but you have to be smart about it. Not exactly my strong suit.

For example, there's a 1953 Parkhurst Gordie Howe #50 PSA 8 @ $910usd right now. Seems like a lot but closing auctions have all fallen between $4k and $5k in the last seven years.

I've been outbid on nearly everything. People are clearly willing to accept a much smaller profit margin than I am. Market is very saturated with savvy buyers.
