I'd recommend applying for the waiver, I believe it costs approx $285 USD and makes you "legal" to try to enter the USA.

Check out this link for complete info.
Get all the information you need about US entry waivers. Find out how to apply, requirements, and more. Ensure a smooth entry into the United States.

Nicky, my parents are naturalized US citizens, I have cousins married to Americans in Windsor, my brother is married to an American with American born children but they now live in Ottawa, I got no breaks from US Immigration with family members being citizens of the US, funny thing is I can apply for a green card because of my parents citizenship but I cannot visit until I complete the waiver process.

Nicky, I've heard different amounts regarding the cost, and they no longer issue waivers for "lifetime" duration, now they must be renewed every few years.

The US is suspicious and doesn't have to agree to giving you a waiver, its at their discretion, personally, I'd say you have a great chance of success, as do I, since my convictions were minor and for jail terms of days not even months.

They may ask for proof of income, etc. but I doubt it.

Nicky, you're chances are very good at obtaining the waiver, my cousin in Windsor needed one even though he is well off and is married to an American, he had a posession of marijuana charge from the 70's that barred him entry to the US.

The US has a much different attitude towards crime and punishment than we do here in Canada, since the US goverrnment is controlled by big business this doesn't surprise me.

I do know that its ALWAYS the USA that initiates these rules or policies and Canada can only retaliate by imposing the same restrictions on the Americans.

Did you know America fingerprints everyone from South American countries? When Brazil announced (as retaliation) it would be fingerprinting Americans visiting Brazil the Yanks weren't very happy about it. America likes to dish it out but hates receiving.

In Europe moving freely about is so much simpler, record? no problem, your EU passport gives you the right to travel.

What is amazing is that Canada and the USA are considered friends and allies, you see what the Americans do to countries they don't like?
I knew there was a chance they wouldn't let me in, but surely it didn't take them an hour to figure this out, which is the time they spent thoroughly searching my car. They opened up chocolate bars and other food items, made a mess of everything. They found nothing and still didn't let me in. It's like they thought they were going to make a big bust.

We commie loving, foul-mouthed, pinko, health care receiving Canadians are considered targets by our "friends" to the south, they'd like nothing better than to catch a Canuck bringing something illegal into their pristine nation.

Canada is obviously a threat to Americas self declared greatness.

And all because they didn't like the way I looked. Young white skinhead back when the only young white bald guys were skinheads or had cancer. I was neither, just a rebel.
