    It's official.

Press conference Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM

Opt out clause after 6 years.

Outstanding contract for Stanton and Marlins will have him in his prime and build some goodwill with fans who are sick of Lorias bs

Benchmark for hitters peak is 30 YOA. He just turned 25.

Playoffs here we come sometime sooner rather than later!

If he opts out in 6 years how is it a bad contract?

If he sucks in 6 years and stays the whole 13 then, yes, the contract is beyond awful for the Marlins.

No one said Trouts contract sucked when he got it......

NOBODY is worth that playing a gm. Need these salaries to come back to earth a bit and pass some of the savings off to the fans by lowering prices. Need to have a set flat rate which can fluctuate a bit based on if you are a starter or not and what position you play in certain sports. Set it somewhere roughly in 5 mill a year range which is more than enough. BUT here's the kicker you can earn much as 3x your base with bonuses based on productivity. Now that would make the games much more exciting and really getting the most outta these guys. As we all know the big lotto payday contract ruins alot of them and this one is ridiculous. Make them keep earning it or at least give them more incentive and drive to do so.

Guy hasn't played a full season and has a 5 year average of .271.

One semi-decent year = 300 million? What am I missing here?

37 and 105, batting .288 with a .395 OBP is better than 'semi-decent'. Especially when you've got guys like Casey McGehee and Garrett Jones batting behind you.

How do you define a full season? In 2011 he played in 150 games, and 145 last year. That's pretty close to full seasons.

Have you seen this guy play last year at all? His raw talent and power is unreal. Plus he turns 25 this year and already has 154 career HR's, hitting 34+ in 3 seasons already.

He hasn't even entered his prime yet.

if anyone is worth a contract like this, it's Stanton.

He was also top 10 in strikeouts last year. 30 homeruns a year doesn't seem all that impressive when your strike out to walk ratio is more than 2:1. Not to mention not being a .300 hitter. he did have a pretty good season going in 2012 before he went out with a knee injury. I just don't think he is worth 300 million.

Marlins will have another fire-sale next year. Maybe they can hand out more free tickets to the school kids again to fill the stadium

Despite all the strikeouts he was still 4th in MLB in OBP and OPS.

He got this mega deal because he will be only 25 this season and has unbelievable raw talent. You gotta think he's good for 35 and 105+ for at least the next 5 seasons. At least. He hasn't even entered the prime of his career yet.

I guess if he going to produce 35 homeruns a year he is definitely worth something, but in my opinion not 300 million.

I would rather pay a pure contact hitter that bats .325 and hits maybe 15 to 20 homers a year that kind of money before I lay it on a guy who swings for the fences every at bat and strikes out a lot. But then again, a .325 hitter is not going to fill the stands like a guy who hits monster homeruns.

It is pretty cool that he is taking less money for the first few years so that they can build a team around him. Only problem is that in his final years he'll probably be playing with a bunch of triple-A ball players.

Patty, can you believe people still talk about batting average on sports betting forums?

This guy is a beast with garbage hitting behind him and these guys are talking about batting average.

Stantons WAR is ONE below Kershaws.

I like this metric as I don't really like many of the fielding +batting metrics.... basically it tells you how many Wins above Replacement player a players bat alone helps win.

this is cumulative for active players

notice how every player but Cutch and Stanton are over 30 and have had many seasons to accumulate.

Stanton will be 25 for the entire 2015 baseball season. He is capable of putting up pre-steroid testing numbers in this new post steroid day and age.

Statistic Description: Adjusted Batting Wins A set of formulas developed by Gary Gillette, Pete Palmer and others that estimates a player’s total contributions to a team’s wins with his bat. 0.0 is an avg performance, <0 is worse than avg and >0 is better than avg

The contract is BACKLOADED like WHOA

He's only making like 18 mil per year until 2018

After like 2022 it goes up to almost 30 mil a year

He/they will opt out and he will join the Yankees by then

The Yankees can have post-peak Stanton for $30 million a year. Marlins fans will be just fine with that.

Never ever, yet the owners still do them, its amazing. Yet if you saw the daily receipts the organization took in, the books as far as accounting, the marketing prospects then maybe we are the ones who dont get it, I mean these owners are out to make money Id suspect, so in that regard somehow youd think from deals like this they have to be making a profit, I just dont see it though.

And you know that more than likely what will happen after 5 or 6 years when his best years are gone but he's still a name.

Stanton will lose 43.3 percent of the $325 million to taxes.

And FL doesn't even have a state income tax.

Starting to see articles that Bryce Harper will get an even bigger contract.

CBS News offers breaking news coverage of today's top headlines. Stay informed on the biggest new stories with our balanced, trustworthy reporting.

Saw one that he might get offered one in the $400 million range. I really don't know if any player is worth investing that much with the emphasis being put on strong farm systems. You can replace the eventual higher contracts with new players if you draft correctly.
