I'm enjoying the World Cup, but no zilch about soccer. What are some good soccer leagues to follow? MLS? English Primier league? They all go during the same time of year?

Well some would argue what the best leagues are but the English Premiership is the easiest to watch in the US, La Liga (Spain), Serie A (Italy), and the Bundesliga (Germany). They all run from August until about April. The MLS runs a different schedule so you'll see them play normally from about April until about October.

This is my opinion, if you want the excitement level of the World Cup, you want to follow top flight European teams(Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, ...) which have a lot of stars. Also, you want to follow the English Premier League which has more parity than other leagues.

EPL is awesome...we get great coverage here in the US on NBC/NBC Sports...Love watching and betting Saturday and Sunday Mornings leading into NCAAF and NFL
It feels like NFL once you get to know all of the teams and follow every weekend ....

Serie A is a crapshoot...friggin Italians are shady....you just don't know who's fixin what there...between ref's and clubs there it's a really tough league to bet
LaLiga in Spain is another tough league and you have to pick your spots because squads are hit and miss because of all the different competitions between Champions League, Cups, etc. and you have to be sure guys aren't being rested before you throw your money down.

May not fit the title of "mainstream," but I love A-League.
A perfect way to fill your late-night degenerate needs, and there are goals aplenty.

For entertainment: The Premier League, Perhaps the Spanish League. It mainly comes down to which teams you watch, not neccesarily the league.
If you want to get into soccer, watch the exciting teams: Man City, Chelsea, Bayern M, Barcelona, Southampton, Liverpool only when Suarez is playing, without him they're boring. Stay away from the Serie A, boring. Stay away from teams like Swansea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Stoke...

if your looking to make money stay away from the top divisions in those leagues. Lines are simply usually spot and very little value to be had. If your looking to make money follow lesser known European leagues as well as 2nd divisions and below.

Champions League, EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Calcio are the best to watch.
Most profitable to bet are unwatchable leagues though.
