Have been messing around in little $10 tourneys breaking about even.

Tonight, I joined a $20 rebuy tourney. 263 entrants.

Turned my 1500 chips into 13000 w/ no rebuys. Added on 2000 more for $20 more for a grand total of $40 invested.

Some 5 hours later...

Dave, what were you doing in that hand? Late position raise? In the blinds with no raisers? Did you guys check it all the way down or did you miss a couple bluffs before the river? I don't see much going on outside of the 3 hearts that you could use as ammunition. Either way, congrats pal! Takes a lot of good decisions to get 3rd in a 100+ person tournament.

Yeah, was in the BB... blinds were at around 2000/4000 ante 500. Guy minraises and everyone but SB folds... can't lay even this bad of a hand down with those pot odds.

Flop comes 6 K 10 all hearts. all 3 of us check.

Turn 7. SB checks. I figure might as well take a stab at it... bet about 15000. Epiph (minraise guy) calls, SB folds.

River 9.

There is about 65000 in the pot. I have about 45000 left in chips, Epiph has about 69000. If I check, obviously I lose. Then I have 45000 and the next smallest stack is about 135,000.

If I push, he can put me on any number of things... an 8 gives me the straight, 2 hearts, a king or a two pair or a set... especially if he just had a heart.

I figure he checked the flop and JUST CALLED the turn, which gave me the idea maybe he was chasing a heart. I hoped so. Pushed.

He called time and thought for 55 seconds before folding.

It is not a good idea to tell your boss in public that you spend 6 hours gambling the night before on your free time. He expects you to be fresh at work in the morning to be productive.
