If your talking about the absinthe in the liquor store in the USA then that "absinthe" is fake. it's just liquor, real absinthe is much much more than a liquor drink.

I've never tried it, and I have to say I don't have much of a desire to. I bought a pack of Absinthe flavored rolling papers to roll joints with, oh, about a couple years ago. Those were easily the nastiest rolling papers I've ever used! They could turn the tastiest of herbs into something that smoked like Mexican brick weed. As memory serves, it's flavored with wormwood leaves. But, it has a reputation for being quite strong, so it'd probably go further than your average bottle of aguardente.

In Canada, liquor laws are established by the provincial governments. As with any spirit, absinthe can only be imported by a government agency; importation by individuals to a private address is prohibited.
Quebec allows 5mg/kg. The government wine and spirit shops (SAQ) sell several brands.
New-Brunswick NB Liquor only sells Absente, which has no thujone.
Newfoundland and Labrador Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation sells only Absente, which has no thujone

Drambuie is good in Rusty Nails. In fact, even though I'm bisexual and being called gay isn't a huge concern for me, I think a Rusty Nail is the only way a man can drink Drambuie without being called gay.
My friends took me out on my 21st birthday to all the bars in Downtown Portland and never let me buy a round, but also told me I had to drink what they bought. I ended up drinking 21 Rusty Nails...and three days later when I got discharged from the hospital after the bout of pancreatitis, I found they actually weren't a bad drink at all. I don't remember that night at all, but I can tell you that internal organ pain is second only to bone/tooth pain.

As far as I understand, a Rusty Nail is Scotch and Drambuie. The only thing that I would not want to drink over Drambuie, would be Scotch. To mix these 2 things together is just evil. EVIL. EVIL. EVIL.

Yep, Scotch and Drambuie. It's better than it sounds, just don't overdo it.

What would be real absinthe? Never tried it, but I see several kinds listed here:

Anything worth trying in there?

There is really no such thing as "real" absinth. Yes some have wormwood extract and some don't but there is really no difference between the two. The only effect felt from drinking either absinth, wormwood or no is that you get drunk. There are no hallucinations or psycotropic effects caused by ingredients in any type of absinth. It's science.
However, it is delicious and extremely easy to drink so maybe that is why people claim it is somehow more special than other types of liquor.

Just had half a bottle of this for a buddy's birthday. Other half was slowly consumed by b-day boy and a couple other people.
Marvelous stuff. No bloated feeling like beer and I can already tell that the hangover will be quite smooth compared to wine.
This post is brought to you by Taboo Genuine Absinthe. 60% alcohol and $55 cash loss. Taboo Genuine Absinthe, what the drinkers drink.
G'night all.

They are both anise flavored but the ouzo alcohol is made from distilled grapes.

After trying Ouzo last night, I must concur with pavy - absinthe is a total scam. I paid $20 for a 750ml bottle of Ouzo vs. $55 bucks for a 500ml of "genuine" absinthe, and the only difference I can tell is that Ouzo doesn't burn your oesophagus nearly as much when it goes down. Liquorice taste is bit stronger too. Both will get you plastered in no time and the taste is quite pleasing.
Yay Ouzo!
