I'm actually looking to get a nice price on Washington. Fade the champs hanging the banner. Just like LA got trounced in their home opener last season. I don't think Crawford repeats last year either. The value will be on the Caps.

To note, your Kings (2012) have company: the Boston Bruins (2011), Chicago Blackhawks (2010), and Detroit Red Wings (2008) also lost their home opener after hoisting the banner to the rafters. That makes 4 out of the last 5 Stanley Cup Champions. The only team out of the last 5 Champions to win their home opener the following season was the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009).

My only play opening night will be the Caps. Seeing +155 on Reduced @ Dimey...thinking the public will be all over the defending champs. Hopefully I can get a better number before puck drop. I will also be waiting in the weeds a little the first few weeks.

Seriously though I expect a small increase in goals,

some goalies have 2.5 inches less on each pad.

there will be more 5 hole goals since the 80's.

Yeah, there will be a learning curve. The goalies who have been using the biggest pads possible will have to make minor adjustments. I heard Quick fell into that category. For some reason Luongo popped into my head as well. As always, the defense will take a min to catch up to good offense so overs early in the season. I don't expect it to be as bad as last season with the lockout, but I wouldn't touch an under for the first few weeks.

Quick used smaller pads last year. Luongo for sure will need to adjust for sure

Here was last regular season's breakdown. Going to avoid betting the final 2 weeks or so of the regular season. I went 4-16 -18.55u downswing the last few weeks during the playoff push. I could have easily eclipsed 50u for the season had I avoided going on tilt and chasing. Lesson learned.

Debating whether snatching up the +155 on the Caps. Think I will get a better price by waiting? Hockey lines generally don't move a ton, not sure many will be paying attention with the baseball playoff on.

First play of the 2013-14 season, boys! As I mentioned above, I'm fading the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks as they raise their Stanley Cup banner to the rafters. Call it a Stanley Cup hangover, call it a slow start, whatever...as I said, 4 of the last 5 Stanley Cup Champions (3 straight) have lost their home opener the following season. Hossa and Handzus haven't played a preseason game yet, I expect the 2nd line to be rusty for the Blackhawks. When the Capitals are healthy, they have the offensive weapons to hang with any team in the league. Green is healthy and their PP is deadly. I expect Crawford to come back to Earth a little bit this season. Way too much value here on the Caps to pass up. Enjoy opening night, boys!
