i remember the SB with the 49rs and bengals maybe 1988 when joe montana thre a td pass to john taylor in the end zone for the win.tx chucky.just wonderful memories.

Yes, the 1988 season capped w/ Niner TD drive. Some other stories attached to that game.

Except for maybe SB3, that game is possibly the most memorable. At least for me.

SB13: Cowboys vs Steelers

*Cowboys: were defending champs.
*Steelers: were back after a 2-year absence

Biggest thing that stuck out to me: *All the talent on the field.

Try to count the # of Pro Bowlers on the field. Pretty awesome.

DALL: replied on pass to Tony Hill. Staubach beat an 8-man blitz.
...Funny clip on this one. Mel Blount was so intent on locking down Pearson that Hill ran right past Blount en route to the end zone. 7-7.

One thing is clear to me:

*PITT didn't want to mess with Dallas on the interior.

All Pittsburgh's scores came on the wings. Bradshaw hits Bleier, who makes an acrobatic catch. 21-14.

Dallas is driving for the potential tying TD. This is the play that always shows up on the replays:

*Staubach hits veteran Jackie Smith in the #s.

Smith loses his footing and drops what looked like a sure Touchdown. My only question: Would the Cowboys have won even if Smith catches that ball?

Early in the 4th qtr, Steelers are gifted 33 yards on a dubious Pass Interference call. Looked like Swann's feet got tangled with DB Benny Barnes.

On the next play Franco Harris ran up the gut. Would-be tackler Charlie Waters ran into an official. TD, PITT 28-17.

On the following kickoff, Randy White picked up the bouncing kick. Incredibly poor decision by White, who wearing a cast on his thumb. Fumble, recovered by PITT.

Bradshaw then hits Swann for ANOTHER circus catch in the endzone, 35-17. See why I think the Steelers would have won even if Smith catches the TD?

Cowboys rallied but it was so late in the game:

*Dupree TD.
*Thurman recovers onside kick.
*Staubach leads another drive, highlighted by Dorsett. TD Butch Johnson, but only 0:22 left.

Bleier recovers the onside kick. Not as close as the 35-31 final.

The guys who DID CARE were the bookies. Closing line of -3.5 middled the early line of +4.5. If you believe the lore, the books got hammered pretty good on the game landing 4.

This will forever be the game where I think about Jack Youngblood playing 2.5 games on a broken leg after getting caught in a "Cowboy vice" in Dallas. Youngblood famously told the trainer "give me two aspirins and we'll worry about it later."

Ram Offensive Line was formidable with the likes of Jackie Slater and Dennis Harrah. Keyed by Wendell Tyler runs, the Rams struck first. Cullen Bryant TD, 7-0.

Early in the 2h, Bradshaw hit Swann who outleaped the safety for a long TD. Swann made a career out of his acrobatic Super Bowl catches. At least five, by my count.

The Rams responded:

*Going into the bag of tricks, McCutcheon halfback pass. TD to Smith.

Rams regain the lead, 19-17. Missed Xtra Point. Think about how many kicking problems teams had back then, compare to how accurate kickers are now.

Noteworthy that Swann was knocked out of the game in the 3rd quarter. The Ram defense had a pretty good read on the Steelers and felt better without Swann as the deep threat.

I know people will look back and say that the Rams were never going to win. Not true, Rams entered the 4th qtr with a 19-17 lead after Bradshaw threw two INTs in the quarter.

Noll had recognized how compressed the Ram defense had become. With Swann out, he had Bradshaw go deep to Stallworth. It was an inch-perfect pass that eluded Rod Perry's fingertips.

Long TD pass. PITT, 24-19.

Noll re-iterated his stance to Bradshaw. Noll noted how compact their defense was. Again, Bradshaw went deep and completed a long pass to Stallworth.

The Raider defensive front outplayed the PHI Offensive Line. In particular, NG Reggie Kinlaw was a thorn. They limited the PHI rush game to 69 yards.

Eagles attempted another FG at the end of the first half, but they were denied by The Stork. Blocked-kick specialist Ted Hendricks blocked Franklin's attempt.

Facenda mentions that Flores adjusted their blocking scheme to pick up Eagle blitzes. This was in response to the eight sacks that the Eagles recorded in the first meeting. Very well done.

With sound pass-blocking, Plunkett threw an endzone effort toward Branch. Well-covered at first, Branch made an adjustment that would make Lynn Swann proud. TD Raiders, 21-3.
