Last week's upset of Chicago could jumpstart the Dolphins, making them the right pick this Sunday at home against the Chiefs.
Both of these teams are coming off surprising road wins last week, but none was more shocking than the Dolphins' 31-13 win at Chicago, just the second Miami victory of the year.
However, we feel that the Dolphins have underachieved this season, so maybe that huge upset could now propel them to a nice winning streak. The Fish have had no trouble moving the ball at home this year, averaging a good 339.7 total yards per game despite scoring just 14.3 points per home contest. We look for them to improve on that scoring average this week vs. a Kansas City defense that is generously allowing 381.2 yards per game on the road.
The Chiefs upset the Rams in St. Louis last Sunday, but they are still averaging just 16.8 points per game on the road. Yes, Larry Johnson has come alive in recent weeks, but he is now going up against a Miami run defense that is allowing just 3.4 yards per carry. The home/away scoring differentials for these clubs are nearly identical, with Kansas City being outscored by an average score of 22.8 to 16.8 on the road and Miami losing by an average score of 20.0-14.3 at home. All things being equal, we will gladly support the better defense as a small home underdog in this spot.
