One book I would always recommend is Sharp Sports Betting by Stanford Wong. It is a bit heavy on mathematics for some but I get the impression that would be right up your street.

Arbitrage is a fairly simple concept and really there is not too much to understand. It is simply a question of finding odds which allow you to bet both (all) sides and have a guaranteed profit. This is quite easy, particularly if you are not American and have a much wider range of books to choose from. The real problem is that books quickly identify those that are doing this and impose account limits.

thanks, I ordered a book on arbitrage and sharp sports betting just last night actually.
how much would you have to be winning before they realize you're arbitraging? on 2+2 one 'sharp' advised that the best way to clear bonuses is to arb, and that because bookies online are insured they don't care about it?

It varies a great deal from book to book but they certainly do care!

If you are able to get odds which are good enough to contribute to an arbitrage then they are most likely a) the best available in the market and b) giving you an edge.

The book may not recognise that you are arbing necessarily but if you are consistently betting ´sharp´ lines or getting the best price, nearly all will take action.

The Sportbook and Industry forum has some good info about which and when books will impose limits or close accounts.

One more question in regards to this: If sports books pick on the sharps, how are people able to make serious money? I read in the forums about players being limited to $100 bets and I wonder if the best online gamblers are limited on all sites as well? If so, once I become a Sharp, what can I expect in terms of a max amount that I'll be able to place per bet?

Well, the most obvious answer is that there are a lot of books and as avenues close, other ones tend to appear.

Being limited is not a factor at exchanges like Betfair (not available to US players) and Matchbook.

Of course, winning players will always look for ways to circumvent the books methods and I am sure you will think of some of these for yourself if/when the need arises.

I can't help you with books to read on the subject as Dunder was able to do but I can offer you one piece of advice. Here at SBR you are very fortunate to have a wealth of resources at you fingertips. For math and modeling there is the Think Tank where you will find some of the smartest (although at times tempermental) guys around. If you are a math guy though you certainly want to check them out. When it comes to individual sports the sub forums all have a few guys that are above the average in those related fields. SBR truly has some of the most knowledgeable guys in sports forumville.
