#16 Creighton at #1 Connecticut.
I like the sound of that, "Top Ranked UConn."
Even though Connecticut has won five national championships since 1999, this is the first time ever the Huskies have been ranked #1 in both polls during the regular season.
I live for these Big East games, I'm a Big East homer, and this league is once again stacked.
Seems like the Big East is always stacked as any one of the top six teams in the league can knock off any of the other five top teams on any given night, either at home or away.
The opener is UConn -5.5, which is my opinion is razor sharp, not a fact, that's just my opinion.
I say razor sharp because I like to play a game with myself before looking at the opener.
The game being "What would I set the line at if I was the line maker".
I said to myself "5.5".
And as sure as shit, the opener was 5.5.
I can't bet this game, well I can, but choose not to.
There's no edge that I can see here giving a nationally ranked team like Creighton five and a half, in a major game of the year type Big East contest.
This is what UConn has going on for them tonight though, the game is at Gampel Pavilion which is the on-campus gym at the University which holds 'only' 10,000 fans with 9900 of them being Husky homers and they sit virtually right on top of the court screaming at the opposition.
Usually I downplay homecourt advantages, some gyms they're a colossal asset, this being one of them.
I'm kind of surprised this game is scheduled at Gampel, usually games this huge are scheduled at XL Center in Hartford which holds almost twice as many fans.
This is what UConn has going against them, Creighton is also loaded with talent, and this isn't a look away game for them, and they are well coached, McDermott is as good as they come.
Then there's the 'top five' trend.
Just last week alone every team ranked fifth in the nation lost with the exception of UConn.
Lately the trend seems to be it's one thing to reach the top, it's another thing to stay there.
I can't bet this one, know this, I'll be tuned in, I can't get a ticket for openers, and it's like eight degrees outside with the wind chill factor.
There are two types of sports bettors, those who bet with their heart (usually not a good idea)
And those who bet with their brains and wallets.
My heart wants the Huskies to win by twenty, by wallet and brain think this game will not be easy.
Pass.
