Start with the old pen and paper creating your own(statfox) other sites that have model's would be sites like odds trader, accuscore, team rankings, dratings. Start with low spreads -3 (in all ats games)or under till fined tuned

      For Non-conference games:
      1. Start with a baseline. Take the Home team's Home Court Advantage (approximately 3.5 points), add the Home team power ratings, minus the Away team Power ratings = approximate spread
      2. Drill down on Offensive and Defensive Efficiencies and make adjustments
      3. Check for recent injuries and make adjustments for how many points that injured player is worth to the team
      4. That should give you a good line.

For Conference games (which begin after Chrismas), add these extra steps:
      5. Drill down to see which coach owns which coach. Conference teams battle each other twice a year, so the good coaches have a read on their opponents and make adjustments--especially, with coaches against whom they have a long history.
      6. Home court advantage varies widely in Conference games.

      Good resources:
Stats and Power Ratings: TeamRankings and KenPom
Check for injuries: Covers and Donbest

      Good luck!

It kind of depends on what markets you’re interested in, what skills you have, your budget (money and time), etc. IMO the most important thing you can do is have a process, so you’re on the right track. I recommend giving some thought to what you’re hoping to accomplish and then start building from there.

In addition to the resources already mentioned, barttorvik.com is an excellent free resource. EvanMiya.com used to have a lot of free stuff but I think it’s mostly subscription based now. If you are a coder, I would look at stuff like hoopR. (If you’re not a coder but want to pull table data from websites, there is a great Chrome extension for $12/year that I can point you to.)
