Marquette -8½ vs Providence

The 8½ points should be easy enough for Marquette to cover this afternoon when they host Providence in Big East action.
Marquette (19-4) has really got some mojo going in conference action this season. Having started out losers of their first two and scoring less than 60-points in both losses, the Golden Eagles have run off six consecutive wins while scoring at least 70 points every game during the streak, including handing conference leaders Pittsburgh their only loss in Big East play at Petersen Events Center.
One of Marquete's losses came back on January 4, to Providence, 74-59, and this game would have been chalked up for immediate payback. Providence has struggled on the road, having lost four of their five road trips this season and the Friars have managed just three wins in their last 15 road encounters, covering the number just five times, 1-4 against the spread this season.
It's also worth noting that the upper echelon Big East teams perform real well at home with same season revenge, especially when they're playing with some momentum. In this set with a few added parameters, these home conference revengers are a perfect 16-0 against the spread since 1990.
Team trend wise, the Friars are a very poor 0-9 against the spread against elite Big East teams with an .800 record the past two seasons, losing these games by an average of 10 points. Providence is 4-9 against the spread as underdogs against conference opponents, including 1-4 against the spread in the last five. The Golden Eagles are 17-7 against the spread their last 24 conference games. There is also the added motivation for the Golden Eagles as Dwyane Wade's jersey will be retired here today.
Projected Score: Marquette-84 Providence-67
Play: Marquette -8½
