I am curious to know what different strategies you guys use when doing a bracket pool. I know they are generally for fun and not for tons of cash but what do you think about when you fill it out? There are several factors that can affect one's approach. The number of players in the pool and the point structure are big ones. Although I am not a fan of this system, I am in a pool that gives 1 point for each correct pick in the first round and the points double after each round, making the championship game worth 32 points. There are close to 75 people in it. Not being loyal to any team, I chose San Diego State to win it, hoping nobody else would choose them (nobody did thankfully). My thought is that the odds of them winning are lower than the number 1 seeds but if they do win I wont have to "split it" with everyone else that picked a number 1 seed. I'd like to hear some of your thoughts.
