Both TNT games tonight are being killed by constant whistles. Sick. Instead of allowing more physical play during the playoffs every slight contact is a foul. Coincidence or new policy?

No kidding. The NBA is always tough to watch, but this is awful.

Wow. That was a ticky tack foul they just called on Carmello. They need to eat their whistles, and let this one play out the last 4 minutes.

There were plenty of bad calls both ways, but the terrible one was when Miller blocked Maggette's 3, and it gave the Clippers a chance to cover.

Was this not the worst playoff game you have ever seen? I mean, the home team shoots 38% (including 0-11 3-pt FGs), can't make a FT to save their life, and still wins by 7 because the road team has an assist to turnover ratio of about 1-2. 25 turnovers?
Oh, and the fouling - yes, there were a lot of touch fouls called, but players were out of position on the defensive end all night, except Camby. Camby and Maggette were the only two players who impressed me at all.

Clippers lost final two minutes 0-5. lol. With Brand fouled out. There's your cover.

Refs totally destroyed this game. Same thing in the Heat game earlier on. Shaq!
No plays for me tomorrow. With this much power the refs decide who covers, not the players.

                Clearly, something is going on.

Pacers` O`Neal fined for criticizing referees

                Associated Press
                Thu, Apr 27, 2006

NEW YORK -- Indiana forward Jermaine O`Neal was fined $15,000 by the NBA on Thursday for publicly criticizing the officials after the Pacers` loss to New Jersey in Game 2.

O`Neal was called for three offensive fouls in the Pacers` 90-75 loss on Tuesday night. He was called for two fouls in the first quarter and five in the game.

``This is my 10th year,`` O`Neal said. ``These are the same moves I made the previous four or five years that made me an All-Star. On the flops, they`re holding onto me. They`re not calling them on the other end.``

If this trend continues it would seriously affect capping, because the benches would get a lot more playing time.

Lebron travelled on that final basket. For sure.

But good to see the refs aren't so hyper anymore.

This Lakers game is the worst one yet - talk about a team getting every call. Not to mention the multiple technicals that should have been called on the Lakers - especially when Kobe shoved Diaw in the back and Diaw fell into someone and got a T.

Yeah, Jesus, you cannot jump stop and then take three more steps. The refs are doing there job to get the Cavs to the next round, but it is so ugly.

Every year around this time I start wondering to what extent the playoffs are fixed. lol
Look at the last two posts.

                          - Lakers are in a huge market.
                          - Lebron is tv = money.

Fortunately, the NFL wipes my memory so it's always a surprise.

Jermaine O'Neal has two fouls in the first three minutes. Right.

This looks like another game that will be whistled dead.

What are you talking about, he just switched his pivot foot. There nothing wrong with that.

Every time IND goes on a little run the refs interrupt it with another phantom call. F*ck them. Six minutes left in Q3 and IND has had TWO (!) free throws.

Shaq was fined another $25,000 for criticizing the refs (for game 3).

Earlier this week, Jermaine O'Neal had to cough up 15 grant for the same transgression. Jermaine was slapped with two fouls in the first three minutes of game 4 today (which pretty much decided the game).

                                  Stay tuned.

PHX up by 1 pt and LAL need to foul with 7 seconds left in OT.

I have never seen a jumpball called in that situation. The MVP doesn't get the foul call?

                                      Anyway... LOL.

I think the whistles broke in the first half after they called so many on the real MVP.

They did call a few on Kobe early on, which was surprising (they evened that out very nicely with Marion). But in the end the only call that mattered was the last. How on earth does Nash not end up at the line?! Game over.

Shown tonight: when Luke Walton had his hand on the ball, and the refs gave a jumpball, Walton had half of his foot over the line, right in front of the ref...

I wasn't a neutral observer, and nor was the crowd that chanted 'REFS YOU SUCK!!" for minutes on end at the Spurs game. (Wow, they really did!!! I do remember booing David Jones once -he was on the floor tonight-, for constantly giving the Clippers free throws against my team. It was one of those moments where you boo and suddenly find the entire arena booing along! - Guess what. He stopped giving the Clips automatic trips to the FT line! Remember that if you're ever on the under with Davey on the floor... ).

I did have the strong impression that the refs decided this one in the second quarter. But I could be wrong.

I thought van Exel was protesting because as a veteran he'd seen this sh*t before. In his mind I think he was protesting the fix. The last time I saw that look on basketball players faces was when PHX lost to the Knicks in an obvious fix earlier this year. They don't happen too often. Raja Bell afterwards: "Now I know what it feels like..." IT.

Looking back, I only wonder what drugs those refs were on. Good example. The only contact between Harris going to the basket and Ginobili was a major elbow in Manu's mouth. And he gets called for the foul?

Shaq last night, "I committed my first two fouls of the series." I think he was called for five in Game 1. Haha.

By JAIME ARON, AP Sports Writer

DALLAS (AP) -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been fined $200,000 for his two recent episodes of referee-bashing.

Half of the punishment was for going on the court Sunday to complain during the Mavericks' 87-85 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of their second-round series. The rest was for some critical comments made in a blog entry he posted Sunday under the title, "How to improve NBA Playoff Officiating."

"Change in any business never comes cheaply," Cuban wrote Wednesday in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank confirmed the fines.

Cuban was punished eight times for more than $1 million and suspended from three games in his first two years after buying the Mavericks in 2000.

He was quick to publicize each one -- especially a $500,000 penalty for saying he wouldn't hire the NBA's head of officials "to manage a Dairy Queen" -- and matched each with a donation to charity.

He's rarely acknowledged fines since then, but has said that doesn't mean he's gotten away with every criticism.

In the blog entry deemed inflammatory by the league, Cuban starts with the disclaimer that it was "written BEFORE the playoff started" and wasn't posted "after I had presented this to the league."

His main complaint was how officials are chosen for the playoffs, calling the selection process "a huge problem."

"(The NBA) doesn't view the playoffs as a place where the very best of the best of officials go to work," he wrote. "It views the playoffs as part of a reward system for officials. ... In fact, if the info I have is correct, there are officials who haven't even been promoted to full-time crew chief who get playoff assignments. How crazy is that?"

His suggestion: Rank the top refs based on their regular-season performance and use the minimum necessary in the playoffs. While that would require back-to-back games in different cities, Cuban recommended paying them more to do so.

In Game 1 on Sunday, Cuban went onto the court during a timeout to lobby his complaints to officials Dan Crawford, Greg Willard and Mark Wunderlich.

He was more restrained Tuesday night during a 113-91 Dallas victory. San Antonio fans, however, took issue with almost every call made -- and those not made -- by the crew of Steve Javie, Eddie F. Rush and David Jones.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn't say anything about them afterward, but star Tim Duncan mentioned "the whistle was going crazy left and right" during the second quarter.

And another non-call going Lebron's way. Final shot of the half, foot clearly out of bounds, ref looking straight at it. Count the 3 points.
