Report: NBA refs disciplined for minor gambling offenses
New York, NY (Sports Network) - Six NBA referees were reportedly disciplined for minor gambling offenses.
In the wake of the Tim Donaghy scandal from this summer, none of the gambling issues were major, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
Sources told the paper that the infractions were as minor as going to casinos. There were no specifics on what punishments the officials, whose names were not identified, received.
The NBA began a widespread investigation into its officials after Donaghy pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a gambling scandal involving his wagering on games he officiated.
League rules stipulate that officials are not permitted to gamble, with the exception of an offseason visit to the racetrack
