Basketball Parlay of the Day - Thursday, 2/08/07

UAB +10
This is UAB's spotlight game every season, and they have responded very well recently. Memphis hasn't won at Bartow Arena since 2002. Squeaky and company are gone, but this UAB team has still shown the ability to battle some quality teams - they led Florida in Gainesville with under a minute to play and have dispatched Wyoming, DePaul, South Florida, and UCF. Memphis is better than all those teams except Florida, but I still don't think they are as good as a lot of experts would like you to think. This is a team that struggled to beat some mediocre teams, and has only played six road games this season. Though UAB hasn't been consistent, Bartow will be rocking Thursday, and the Blazers will bring their best effort of the season. Last year, UAB +4 or so was one of the consensus plays here at SBR, and the Blazers won outright. History repeats itself Thursday night as Memphis is finally exposed.

Fresno State +4
Well, we can't be sure how Fresno will respond to losing Coleman. But, we can be sure that Quinton Hosley isn't going to be intimidated by Nick Fazekas - they'll be facing each other in the NBA in the not too distant future. Fresno has been very difficult to beat at home all season. They do have the embarassing loss to Hawaii, but other than that they are 12-1, with the lone loss by 2 to Stanford. I think maybe this is Nevada's road hiccup, similar to AFA's trip to SDSU earlier this week. It doesn't mean they aren't a good team, but situationally, I have a hard time seeing them walking out of here with a convincing win.

RHODE ISLAND +10: The UNDERDOG is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these schools, and there is every reason to believe that pattern will continue tonight. The underdog Rams have won five of their last six games SU and are also 6-2 ATS over the last eight contests. Favored Massachusetts has been disappointing its backers lately, going just 3-7-1 ATS in the last 11 games.

YOUNGSTOWN STATE +9: While Youngstown State is not in the best of form right now, this still seems like an awfully lot of points for an erratic Green Bay team to be giving. Yes the Phoenix are 9-2 at home this season, but both of those losses have come inside the conference within their last four home contests, and both losses were by double-digits! The Penguins did snap a three-game losing streak by beating Illinois Chicago 92-87 last Saturday, so maybe that can now build on that offensive explosion in this decided underdog role.

Hofstra -1.5 : should be favored by at least 4 here, They are two good teams, but Hofstra in my opinion is better, and they are at home.

Fairfield +8.5: They have been very hot as of late, this is just far too many points, I won't be surprised to see them win this straight up.

Probably a point too many to cover. But I like the way the Wolfpack has been playing on the road.

Stanford at Washington State Over 123
Just can't see Washington St not reaching 70 in this one after the way they completely blew beets in the second half last Saturday at Arizona State.

Butler -11
Butler should crush a Cleveland St team that has only 2 D-1 wins at home all year

VCU -7
This isn't last year's George Mason team and VCU has already handed them a 13 point loss in the Patriot Dome earlier this year. Look for VCU to roll at home.

Bucks-Hornets under 193.5. Hornets may show a little bit of a hangover here, their first game back home from the west coast road trip. Bucks are far from scoring machine without Redd. This game stays under the total.

Cal Poly -1. Mustangs come with some fire here after 77-70 loss at LBSU earlier this season. The 49ers have a huge conference showdown at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. Mustangs roll tonight at home over LBSU

Butler -10.5
Bulldogs whipped 'em by 25 at home, so even going on the road I like this #. Butler has also covered 8 of 9 double digit spreads. CSU has lost 3 of its last five home games by 11 or more.

Memphis/UAB Under135
Memphis scores about 10 pts less per game on the road than their season average and UAB holds opponents under 40% from the floor. UAB has also gone under in their last 6 straight. Memphis has gone under in 4 of the last 6.

VCU -7: George Mason getting too much credit from the oddsmaker's for their success last season. This year's squad isn't nearly as good. VCU is a team with a shot at reaching the Sweet 16. 7 is much too small of a number for this game. VCU beat GM by double digits on the road. They will do so again tonight.

Hofstra -2: This is a huge game for Hofstra who needs to keep winning to have a chance for an at-large bid. Drexel is a solid team, but I give Hofstra the edge because of their backcourt, which is one of the best and most underrated in the country. Like the VCU game, this line is also a little off. I'll take the better team and the homecourt.
