Basketball Parlay of the Day - Monday, 2/05/07
Post your 2 best basketball plays each day, NBA and CBB full-game Sides & Totals allowed only, no halves. Same game Side/Total parlays are ok.

All parlays will be graded as 10.00 to win 26.00, and I will do the standings for the month of February at least.

The Catch: You must have SOME ANALYSIS for each play. Only needs to be one sentence, no big deal, although full paragraphs are ok too. Plays submitted with no analysis will NOT COUNT toward standings.

      u209.5@ IND
Warriors have cracked 100 only once on the road trip; Pacers at home allow over 100 rarely.

      u218.5@ DEN
Dog days may be here for Suns, at least until the ASB. Nuggets sans AI have rarely cracked 100 either.

        Rider +3.5
Why would this be a game I am playing? Because Rider is in off an embarassing loss to previously 0-22 Iona. They appeared on Sportscenter, and have been totally humiliated. The best remedy is going home and beating a Marist team that is near the top of the MAAC. Sounds difficult, but in Marist's last six road games, they are 2-4, with the two wins coming in overtime. Rider is not as terrible as you might think, as they have lost two home games by 1, once by 5, and have won the rest.
Marist is, not surprisingly, the most public game on the board.

        Utah State -1
I was fortunate enough to get this pk. New Mexico State is a team that I have had on several occasions this season, with a lot of success. But, the value is gone now that they have defeated Nevada and are on top of the conference. NMSU is only 5-4 on the road, with the wins being against Boise State and four terrible teams. Utah State is still undefeated at home, and I don't see that changing here.

I like the Aggies to take it to the Longhorns after that impressive victory in Lawrence. You may think they could have a letdown, but I think they will ride their momentum. Durant is a very fine player, but turn on ESPN tonight and watch Acie Law.

          Rider +3
I am selecting Rider after that loss to Iona (so did Razz). This is a play I will almost always make. Rider is at home after an embarrassing loss to winless Iona which is the recipe for a victory.

NETS/76ERS UNDER 192.5: Yes the Nets have gone OVER in seven consecutive games, but NONE of those contests were inside the division, and the UNDER is 21-10 in their last 31 games against the Atlantic. Philadelphia home games are averaging a combined 192.5 points this season, dead on this total, but the bulk of that came when the Sxers still had Iverson.

WARRIORS/PACERS UNDER 208.5: With a posted total this high, both offenses would have to perform at a high level, and ironically it is the normally run-and-gun Warriors that we do not see holding up their end of the bargain here. Golden State is averaging just 95.8 points per game in four road contests since a 131-point explosion at home vs. Charlotte, and it is running into a staunch Indiana defense that is surrendering just 91.8 points per game at home. Not surprisingly, the UNDER is a profitable 13-9 in all Pacer home games this year.

UConn is not a talented offensive team this season and while the Orange do tend to struggle outside the Carrier Dome, I believe the 2-3 zone will frustrate the Huskies further and the Orange will have enough offense in this one - possibly even to win outright.

              Loyola MD +3
I have no idea who wouldn't want in on this line! Loyola is 8-1 ATS on the road and when you check the stats, would appear to have a better shooting and defensive team.

                Indiana Pacers -5.5
Jermaine O'Neal is out for this game, but the Pacers have actually been better in recent years without him. This line dropped from -7 when the injury was annouced.

                Houston Rockets -5.5

Houston should be up for this game after losing badly to New Orleans at home on Saturday. The Rockets will look for revenge after losing at Minnesota earlier this year.

Denver +8 Phoenix will lose interest soon and I think this Denver team could scare them at home even without Iverson.

Atlanta +5 Lakers are on a long east coast road swing and will have a let down after a win in Washington.

                  Good luck to all.

Loyola Marymount +10.5. The Lions well remember the 35 point thumping the dawgs put on them in spokane earlier this season, and will look to put on a much better performance in a rare national tv spotlight. Note that the zags have failed to cover the last two monday night games, and have a huge revenge game with St. Mary on tap. The lions take this one to the wire.

San Diego +8. Looking to The WCC again here. This is a bad sandwich game for the gaels after the loss to santa clara and with the zags up next. San Diego should be getting some value here off the home loss to USF. Look for another WCC game to go down to the wire.
