With the Seattle SuperSonics banged up and short on the bench, chalk this one up to the Cavaliers at home in Cleveland this evening.
A variety of factors make Cleveland a solid play tonight in the NBA.
The Sonics continue to be shorthanded as Ray Allen is still out, and he's not the only Seattle player who's banged up. Earl Watson and Danny Fortson are also nursing injuries to make the bench even shorter. The SuperSonics are coming off a tough loss by a point in Milwaukee on Tuesday before being popped by 15 Wednesday in Chicago. Tonight's contest in Cleveland is the middle match of a 5-game road trip and the Sonics already appear tired.
I also like the fact that the Cavaliers were able to squeeze out a win against Charlotte Wednesday night despite the fact they did not play well. That was their third straight win at home where they are 10-2 on the season. LeBron James scored 22, grabbed eight boards and doles out seven assists while three other Cavs - - Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes and Anderson Varejao - - scored 16 each. They built a nice 13-point halftime lead then nearly coasted to a loss at the end.
Expect Cleveland to come out with more focus following that sloppy performance. It hasn't generally been wise to play the East vs. the West this season in the NBA, but this is one spot where it's worthwhile and I'll recommend the Cavaliers minus the points.
