if anyone is interested: as stage breaks are back, I had a look at last year's race again in regards to who stayed out for points and who didn't - with the result that basically every playoff driver did, apart from those secure (Elliott), in a must win situation (Bell), or miles behind anyway (Chastain St. 1, Hamlin St. 2):

Passing was super difficult, and none of those who stayed out managed to move back up in the Top 10 until the late caution.

Tactics may change this year, of course, but currently I'd tend to stay away from betting any of those guys facing the same dilemma, I guess.

Good information. Looks like this makes Byron, Elliot, Allmendinger, and McDowell a bit more attractive compared to those still in the playoffs. Hamlin is sitting pretty good so he could possibly stay out for Stage 1 and pit before Stage 2.

Also note that the restart zone will be in the middle of the chicanes on the front stretch this year: https://x.com/bobpockrass/status/170...181267598?s=20

In previous years they didn't go through the chicane on the restarts. Will probably create some additional chaos.

The #9 is still in the running for the owners' championship, but no idea if they'd consider that important enough to ruin his race.

Looks like 40% chance of rain in Charlotte on Saturday morning that could affect Xfinity qualifying. Rest of the weekend looks good. No rain in the forecast for F1 in Doha (obviously) but they are forecasting 20+ mph winds on Friday and Saturday.

Idea is good, road course inside a stadium to see it all from every seat. But seems like an awful fail of a circuit design.

I don’t have much of an opinion either way, I’ve never really considered what design elements make a road course better or worse. I guess with a roval you can’t have any significant change in elevation or have long sweeping turns. Might also be limited on width of the track compared to true road courses.

DK and BR/Kambi had him at +2800 until Circa hung his line at +1700 this morning. FD still has him at +2800. Nothing to lose strategywise since he’s locked in to the next round and he has 3 top 10s in his four starts here including one win.

edit: 4 top 10s in five races. I’ve been drinking

I don't like it at all. Especially being its a playoff race and Cutoff for the round. No way this track belongs in the playoffs. Only good thing is they have tended to be a little crazy and wild and not boring.

Agree. Have it as a reg season anomaly if they want, but making it a chase race is anti-sporting and obviously for track owner greed

Any idea how good is Boris Said? The #17 has been a really strong car this year when Hendrick lined it up, but backing an old fart who has been out of the series for years... not too tempting at those odds, tbh.

Couldn't do it when he was still young enough 10 to 15 years ago.

Could not seeing him do it even driving max's Red Bull against this field.
