Mike Gill to quit the biz--- again
Mike Gill the controversial owner will sell off the rest of his horses after wednesdays racing at Penn National.. There has been a jockey boycott since the 23rd after a Gill horses broke down, they refused to ride any races until the rest of the Gill horses were scratched.. Gill has 4 horses in wednesday and the boycott is still on with 26 jocks already taken off mounts in races the Gill is entered, he stated he plans on running the horses even if he has to ride them.. Since October 1st, horses owned by Gill have suffered 6 breakdowns, and 9 more have been pulled up or eased in the races.. i think him quitting will make the game a little safer

He is doing it for money he is a ruthless juicer with no moral compass whatsoever !!! Good Riddance if he actually leaves but don't count on it. Even if his name comes off the owner papers he may put them in someone elses name and do the same crap.

EmpireMaker, why do liberal democrats always make fools out of themselves?

Michael Gill's annual loss owning horses is most certainly more than you will make in your entire lifetime.

While black clouds have always surrounded him, its just plain idiotic to say Gill owns horses for the money.

You really need to get your head out of Obama's rear end and wake up and smell the coffee.

As far as those Penn National jockeys who took off their mounts, I would refuse to continue betting on their races until the track bans all the jockeys from riding at the track.

With red ink flowing through America's racetracks, jockeys continue to complain that they aren't paid enough and want owners who are already getting soaked to pay even more. If racing winds up folding in many parts of the country, these jockeys are going to realize what their true worth is (a hell of a lot less than what they are currently earning riding horses).

I have no opinion on Michael Gill one way or another, but you're acting as if the jockeys are being ridiculous here.. You're talking about SIX breakdowns on horses Gill owns, that is insanely ridiculous.. This is a jock's livelihood and they know they're always one clipped heel away from being paralyzed.. This would be like NASCAR drivers driving cars knowing some of them don't have working brakes..

Getting paid enough, getting mount fees, extreme weather they are all arbitrary things that you can argue. But to argue the jocks are being ridiculous for not riding potential career ending horses is not something I think you can ignore

I think its overestimated how much lake juices.. He is great at placing horses where they can win.. Not saying he doesn't use some shady methods and drugs, but he's also smart with placement

i dont blame the penn jocks at all, 6 breakdowns, numerous other horses pulled up, in their opinion their is a great risk being in a race with a gill horse, kind like driving on the interstate behind a guy whos just had a case of beer and polished it off with a 5th of jack

It is the tracks decision regarding whether or not to ban Gill from running his horses NOT the jockeys.

I can certainly understand the jockeys not wanting to ride Gill's horses but boycotting the races where he has horses entered crosses the line. If they refuse to ride, then they should be suspended for their actions.

dise-pa, you could drop dead tomorrow and that would be just fine by me. The world would be far better off if you perished.

First of all, this has nothing to do with national politics (although Bush went to great lengths to take away much of our civil rights as Americans and fleeced this country of much of its wealth as well as alienating our country in the eyes of most other countries). Secondly, he is bilking his investors (losing their money) thus one reason why he has to run hurt horses (to slow the disappearance of their money) hubris and greed would be the other two big ones. Why should jockeys be subject to permanent injury or death when there is clearly a pattern of him running unsound horses? I do agree that jockeys think much more highly of themselves than they ought to, but they do have a right to look out for their physical well-being. As far as owners are concerned the trainers and vets are probably the ones being most overpaid. To say he owns horses, juices them and runs them hurt for anything other than money or the hope of making money whether it be from gambling or from purses is absolute BULLSHIT. Do you stick up for all of the crooks or just Gill (and Bush)?

Penn Nat used to have the World Series of handicapping every year there back in the day, 5 eliminations with 125 people in each one, top 24 in each elim make the finals... think i was in it 3 years, from age 18-20, before i got my racetrack license and it was always a lot of fun, 3 days of betting nothing but penn national in the tourney.. never made the final, always had some heartbreaking loss on sunday to deny me..
