Puck off, you must understand Nicky is an old timer, when it comes to hockey he's very knowledgeable, when it comes to hockey sticks, all he knows is buy a stick, and tape it up.

Give me the wood sticks anyday. I'll gladly lose the extra 5-8 MPH in exchange for knowing my stick probably won't break.

Osgood sucks period. So did Legace and insert any Detroit goaltender over the past decade. But it doesn't matter since Detroit plays such a complete team game.
They limit opponents to <25 shots/game and 70% of those are from the outside with minimal-zero risk. There is almost never an effective screen put up on the Red Wings due to how good their transition game is. Basically, opponents can only get quality chances on the PP.

Hey Al Masters, don't be wiseass..
Hey pucker, you still never mentioned to me what a composite is.. i never heard of this in my life..
pucker, here is my stick..that's right, that's what pros like me use.. this is my TITAN, buddy.. that stick has scored over 400goals in about 120 pick up games on ice. It's not really the stick pucker, it's the guy behind it.. that's right.. me..

Composite hockey stick, one piece, made of kevlar, or carbon, etc. Can also have composite hockey shafts, and have a wood blade in them.

I'm on Detroit also to win the Cup. Being from Michigan, and following them closely year in and year out (not really a Wings fan), this really was a different team last year than previous years. If it weren't for mid-season injuries, especially on D, they'd have been in the high 120s in point. I was surprised that they dominated on the west coast, where before they had issues against bigger, more physical teams. Now with the addition of Hossa and the maturity of some younger players, I don't see any slowdown whatsoever. So Lidstrom, Osgood, Draper are a year older? Not a factor at all. The West is weaker than the East. The only formidable opponents would be Dallas and Anaheim, I believe. Detroit dominates Dallas year in and year out, and Anaheim is a very unpredictable team. I say Detroit is good down to 3-1. 5-1 is a steal. Other solid picks are Anaheim 12-1, TB 45-1, and Buffalo 50-1. Here's to the start of hockey season!!
FYI, if you were going to fade a Detroit team every game, you missed your chance with the Tigers

just remember one thing, wings fans.. no matter if your wings end up with 129 pts or 133 pts, or 65 wins, we habs really hold the record. in 1976-77, habs were 60-8-12 for 132 pts.. without OT.. today, OT means you get 1 pt for sure, and maybe 2 pts. and if you win in OT, you get a win, unlike in 76-77...
IF the same rules applied back then as today, instead of my habs being 60-8-12, we probably would have been 70-8-2, as we probably would have gone at least 10-2 in OT with lafleur, shutt and robinson playing 4 on 4 with all that room on the ice, then having guy, shutt, lemaire in the shootout.. wow..
so dont forget wings fans, that we will always hold the NHL record in wins, and fewest losses and pts.. today's record is not real.. there will always be an exclamation pt behind it.

Hab fans might find this interesting Nick, but no one else really gives a shit.
I'm more interested in cashing then cheering for any team.

There's still a few. Most notables are Jason Spezza, Paul Stastny, Pavol Demitra, Markus Naslund, Bobby Holik, Adrian Aucoin, Patrice Brisebois, and Ryan Smyth.
Most will tell you that they get a better "feel" with a wood stick. They don't break like composite but they do get weaker in time.

That's only 3.33 goals per game Hat Trick Nick!!!
120 games of pickup pond hockey should have you at least 1200 goals Nick the Trick.

There's a few who do. I know for sure that "overrated" Jason Spezza uses one.

Thanks for posting that VegasVic. I wasn't aware that Ryan Smyth uses one as well.
I think they should be banned myself. If I used a composite stick when i played minor hockey as a kid I would have killed someone with my booming shot.
I'm not joking!!!

pucker, we dont play your type of pick up hockey where you can cherry pick all you want..and the scores aren't 18-16 like some games.. they are played with a ref, 2 decent goalies, and we play offsides too... and we can even lift the puck, but no hard slap shots.. our avg scores in 60 min is 8-5, 9-6... etc..
so 3.33 goals per game is pretty good.. oh, and we have 2 lines only, not 4 lines.. not bad, huh?

I'm surprised about Spezza and Stastny, the other guys make sense. Personally, I am a big fan of the composite sticks. If you get one that doesn't have a lot of flex, it won't break very often, and the difference in weight is really nice.

pucker, 2 lines, not 4 lines..
i never even knew these composite sticks did this much.. man, i am just imagining right now what my boy GUY LAFLEUR would have had done with one.. he would have probably scored an extra 100 goals in his career.
so basically, today's players stats should have an exclamation pt behind them if they are scoring more goals and slap shots are harder on acct of them.. because the old time stars like Phil esposito, Marcel Dionne, Gordie Howe, Rocket Richard, etc... they might have had 100 or more goals today had they used these sticks..
this is not fair, they should all have to use wooden sticks, just like old time hockey..

or MIKE BOSSY!!!
Remember Nick the Trick that goalie gear is bigger and goalies are also bigger.
Can you imagine Al MacInnis letting one of his cannons go with a composite? That is a frightening thought.

The way Phil Esposito scored goals all he needed was a snow shovel.

You were watching a different goaltender than I was last year. I saw many odd man rushes he stopped cold. He did play a bit over his head last year, but that may just be the confidence he needed to get over the top.

Is betting hockey futures profitable?
This example illustrates how disadvantaged we as sports gamblers are in this endeavor. Even by being selective and shopping over 15 Vegas sports books for the best individual team numbers the lowest cumulative hold percentage I can possibly hope for is 19.7%.
Most books are closer to 40%
Be careful out there.

Currently the best number you'll find on San Jose anywhere offshore or in Vegas. (although Pinny had them at +1525 one week ago).
No question they could end up a top three seed and I too expect a big year from them. However, they still need to show me something in the playoffs before I'm a total believer.
