spreadsheet
is it possible to take a look at ur spreadsheet?

That link, was from week 15, 1 winner for the NFL Pro Pools. Guy won $874,000. That was the week Green Bay lost and Indy won (or whoever hadn't had a win yet).
I've actually been tracking NHL Pro Pools, in excel, I've been "making up pretend tickets" since November. I'd be up around $6,000 if I actually played them.
When there is 13 games on, the average pot has been $38,000. You can box out 11 games for $10,240. That mean if you pick 2 games correct, you would've profited ~$28,000 when there is 13 games on.
If anyone would like to see my spreadsheet, let me know

Fire big on Calgary and Sharks. I did and I dont fire big unless I feel super confident about it. I run a system and its been profitable every week. Today im firing bigger than normal and Im up pretty good this week again. Thats just my 2-sense though........

As if green bay lost!
I played NFL pools (ontario/olg) for the first time this week (week 5) and got everyone right except for my beloved Green Bay Packers coughing up a 21-3 lead at half and losing! If I get the monday nighter correct (took Houston over the Jets) do you guys think I have any shot at winning?
Got a baby on the way, so here's to hoping!

Yeah I'm playing every week this season for sure, went 10/15 Week 1 boxing 4 games so not a great start. I also have been using the WinYourPool website to help make picks so I get an optimal payout and box the right games. Anyone else playing pools this year, lets hear your picks?

Saw this thread and felt compelled to reply as someone who plays the Pro-Picks Pools every single Sunday of the NFL season. I only play these tickets during the NFL season because that is the only time it is worth the money.
I have noticed someone in this thread pointing out for the paltry sum of $5120 he could box 10 games on one of these tickets during the NHL season and possibly make a tidy profit of $30,000 by only having to select up to three correct outcomes! YEEHAW!!! There are two very serious problems with this simplistic view of this particular betting game. Especially as it concerns sports other than the NFL.
First and foremost the odds of only one ticket being a winner are quite long. The odds are good that several winning tickets will be out there. Each of those winning tickets receives an equal share of the pool as a prize payout. So, using this individual's example, if there were as few as 6 winning shares in the pool (common) and the pool has a total of $35,000 in it you would receive a tidy sum of $5833.33. You would turn a profit of just over $700. If there were as many as 12 winners (happens frequently) you would receive just over $2900. Uh-oh! You're in the red! Now you have a problem! What about the weeks when there 40+ winners (happens often enough)? You receive less than $1000 as your share of the prize pool. IF you are assuming you will be the only one who wins each time you happen to choose all the games correct you are a fool.
Secondly, just because you are boxing 10 games doesn't mean you will win every time. In fact, if you are boxing 10 of 13 games you need to pick the correct outcome for those other three events where each event has only two outcomes. There are 8 possible ways for those games to play out. All home teams win, all visitors win, and so on. That means you have-- from a pure numbers point of view not factoring in your expertise or any other tools-- a 12.5% chance of selecting the correct sequence of outcomes for those three games. Even when you factor in your expertise, the advice you got from betting forums, your buddies, the bartender or any other expert you won't approach a 100% win rate. We all like to think we can pick three games with ease but the reality of it is this is delusional.
If you are planning on putting $5120 down every time you better have a very large sum of disposable cash on hand or you could be broke quick if you don't win large right away. And, as I have pointed out, winning large is not anything approaching a "sure thing".
Another reason this is a ludicrous idea is the size of the pools when it comes to the NHL. In Ontario, the pool size for the average NHL Pools ticket is between $30,000 and $40,000. This is not worth risking that kind of money for. The pool size for the NFL Pools tickets is between $500,000 and $900,000. The AVERAGE payout over my years of playing has been somewhere near $10,000. Some weeks the payout is much smaller than this. Some weeks it is much larger. The pools tend to be larger in the middle weeks of the season. Most weeks at the end of the year are the lowest paying weeks. But on average you can expect about $10,000 if you happen to pick all the NFL games correctly on any given week. But that doesn't mean you WILL get that. I have seen the payout at less than $400 when there were over 1900 winners. I have also seen one lucky player take home over $870,000 for being the only one to select all the games correctly! Sadly, when I won the week after that I only got $5500. I was lucky enough to win a second week in a row. I took home about $9500 for that win. Those are my only two wins. Been playing every week for the last 5 years with my buddy. I had played before that but wasn't always in Ontario to play. I spend $40 a week during the NFL season. I play 8 different $5 tickets with no games boxed. My buddy does the exact same. We are up a total of about $7000 over 5 years.
We play these Pools tickets to make things even more interesting on NFL Sundays. We do it for fun. We hope we get lucky and win six figures one day. But we aren't banking on it. Not a chance. If you think for one second the lottery corporations setting these games up aren't well aware there are people like you out there you are naive. You are even more naive if you think they aren't laughing at you. The betting games offered by these corporations are games designed for people who go to casinos to play slot machines.
