The Fins are playing much better than they did against the Canadians. Glad I missed wagering on this game the Americans look like crap so far.

I'm expecting a better showing from the Russians tonight winning by 5 or so. Slovakia playing on a back to back and they didn't look very impressive one bit in their opener yesterday against Latvia.Comment -

#55Ya I can't imagine myself betting anything to large on a team to win by 9 no matter who the hell they are playing whoever. Going to sit out the Canada/Denmark game although Canada hammering them by 10+ goals isn't out of the question.
As for the Russia/Latvia game I don't think I can just pull the trigger on Russia as easily as I thought I'd be able to when I saw this matchup prior to the tournament starting. Russia has yet to cover a spread that the books have gave them (pushing -3 against Switzerland, losing ATS last night against Slovakia). Latvia's tournament is on the line tonight meaning a loss tonight pretty much eliminates them. At first I was thinking that Latvia would put up a fight tonight and keep it within 5 but I'm having doubts about it. This Russia is a basically an entire brand new team that won Gold last year with I believe only 1-2 returning players. So a slow start by them only beating the Swiss by 3, but later on we find out the Swiss aren't that bad after all. And only winning 3-1 against Slovakia last night, the same Slovakia team that was trailing Latvia 1-0 but later escaping with a 3-1 win. So this being the Russians third game together, against a weak Latvia team, may be the night they light the lamp and cover their first spread. There's some good value at +110, so at least we won't have to be laying any juice. Going to stay away from both games tonight but this is just my 2 cents on the Russia/Latvia game if you were looking for my 2 centsComment -

#59I'm very interested to see some of the lines on the games for tomorrow for example Czech vs USA. I'm also pretty interested in the Sweden/Slovak spread tomorrow. I think Sweden smartens up after getting that wake up call from the Swiss and they beat down on the Slovaks tomorrow. I'm expecting Sweden to be favored about 4.5-5 tomorrow against Slovakia.Comment -

#60Hey guys, just joined to get in on the WJC discussion.
Had a bad day on the 28th going 0-3, lost on Denmark +3.5 vs Czech (The Danes got crushed) USA on the MONEYLINE vs Finland (they are so flaky every year, this was their typical "lay an egg" game against a team they should beat) and lost on Over 7.5 Canada/Czech (Canada won 5-0)
Today was a little better, got lucky and took the Danes +8.5 and BARELY covered. (Knew this was a risky play but liked the idea of a 10-2 or 9-1 score and got it) Had Russia -5.5 as well, hit the easy button on that one. (Russia was only up 1-0 after 1, then woke up)
Like the idea of USA and Sweden covering whatever the line will be tomorrow, they both need to wake up (USA especially or they will be embarrassed on NYE)
Best of luck to everyone for the rest of the tournament.Comment -

#61Welcome to SBR! There's a lot of useful information you can find on here but than again there's a lot of garbage on here too.
Its basically just been between Soxsfan and myself in here discussing our plays with the occasional other bettor stopping in once or twice. I really expect the Americans to bounce back after getting dominated by the Fins 2 days ago. They need the full 3 points and they need to put up quite a bit of goals to keep pace with Canada in Group B. Canada leads Group B right now with all 9 points out of the possible 9 and a goal differential of +20. The Americans, with one less game played, sit currently in 3rd behind Finland and Canada with a goal differential of just +5 and 3 points. For the Canada vs USA game on New Years Eve to have any meaning of who comes out on top in that division would mean the Americans would have to win tomorrow's game by I'd say a minimal of at least 10 goals which would then give them 6 points and a goal differential of +15. This 10 goal outcome by the Americans is VERY unlikely especially the way they looked against the Fins and this Czech's team are no pushovers and won't let anyone walk all over them.Even if they do find a way to win tomorrow by 10 or so, they would still need to hammer the Canadians by 5-6 goals. With that being said, the Canada vs USA game would mean nothing even if the USA win tomorrow and beat Canada on Saturday.Comment -

#65ok... what the hell happened out there today?! I chalked up the loss to Finland as their typical stinker they always seem to throw, but this was crazy. Mrazek stopped that penalty shot mid 3rd and all of a sudden the Americans were just deflated and the Czechs decided they could win.
I follow the OHL pretty closely, and this was no surprise to see the Czech goaltender play this way. He has been very impressive since the start of last year, and was very capable of stealing a game like this. I just assumed USA would overpower the Czech's and Mrazek would be left out to dry, but wow... what a show. Keep this in mind for the rest of the tournament if you are betting them, this guy can and very well may have another one of those games. See: Jaroslav Janus for Slovakia in 2010
I am still stunned by this performance from USA. The Finland win over Denmark has now officially eliminated them from the medal round. I don't want to sound overly harsh, but this is embarrassing for their program. If they come out with any sort of jump against Canada tomorrow night i'll be very surprised. It's crazy that the precious New Years Eve game means absolutely nothing now.
I didn't get a chance to look at the lines today but it looks like Sweden would have covered beating Slovakia 9-1 and Finland was fine against Denmark at 10-1.
Thanks for the welcome guys, I have lurked around these forums for a while but never had much I wanted to contribute. I was at the World Under 17 tournament today, and watched the Russians absolutely STEAL a win from the Americans, their first loss in the preliminary round of this tournament since 2008. What a nightmare day for USA Hockey. (My boys from Ontario rolled Sweden in the night game so things ended up wellComment -

#67Not gonna lie... I got nervous during the first period, Canada looked like they were gonna have their way with the Americans. I played USA +2.5 and it panned out, its rare to see either of these teams blow each other out.
Nice comeback win for Sweden to win their group. They came back from being down 3-0 and won 4-3 in overtime vs Russia.Comment -

#68Could not believe that Sweden came back from 3-0 and won in OT. How can you score 3 goals in the 1st period and not score again and then give up 3 goals in the 3rd, game not aired here so no clue what happened....got really lucky though and got a push! Most of the time these things work against you but for once it worked in my favor, thank you for that! OT is not counted for international hockey and so it pushed. It feels just liked when a half point actually works in your favor lolComment -
