I can't help but think that Leighton blew this for the Flyers. While it is all too easy to blame the goalie, he gave up some unbelievably soft goals, including the game winner last night. Not to take anything away from Chicago, they played extremely well, and Niemi was clearly the better man.
Leighton = finals goat?

#2got pulled in two games, let in the backbreaking goal last night when the Flyers had momentum (the Sharp goal was very weak), and the OT goal will go down as one of the all-time softies.
Niemi wasn't great either-he let up almost 4 goals per game in the series, averaged out.
Leighton is a goat, but how much can you expect from a waiver wire pickup keeper?
the irony of that goal last night...the Flyers have always had goal issues for years now, and the softie is scored by Kane, who should have been the Flyers number one pick his draft year as they had the worst record in the league that season and lost the lotto.Comment -

#3I think when they keep rotating goalies, it messes up rhythm and can't help to win games.
just my 2 cents.Comment -

#4Kinda hard to get on Leighton, maybe he should have been better but no one ever said he was an elite goalie.Comment -

#5There goes his career. In all seriousness he wont ever be a starter, razor will take back the job come next season and leighton will be history.Comment -

#7I agree the Sharp goal was a weak goal... The overtime goal was questionable... Kane is so quick and patient with the puck Leighton didn't think he was going to shoot that puck... he was cheating a little to much because he was worried about Kane working the back of the net... that goal was all Kane...Comment -

#12I don't think Leighton was a good goalie to begin with, plus them rotating him in and out in some big games prolly didn't help his confidence. Didn't really matter who you put in the net for this series anyways, the Cup was coming to Chicago!Comment -

#13Any goalie can suddenly get hot for awhile and all of a sudden they are on a win streak like Leighton. JS Giguere is a terrible goalie and he still won a cup. Osgood, same thing. Niemi is not even good, he just has had a terrific team in front of him. Brodeur, Miller, Kipper...probably the best goalies in the league, but they didn't make it to the dance.Comment -

#14The overtime goal to Kane was undeniably soft. You can cheat off the post but Leighton allowed that goal because he was playing scared. He was indecisive about going down to cover the puck or stay on his feet and use his stick to deflect it. This is not a difficult decision for a goaltender. When you see a goalie questioning themselves like that it is a bad sign.Comment -

#24good money for a guy with 8 years of average goaltending at best, but you have to admit he had 2 good runs with Philly in half a season last year and got them close to a cup. some guys just fit in with certain teams/systems and suddenly look like stars. Think about it, if Brodeur had been on a team like the Thrashers for the last 10 years would Atlanta have been a dynasty or would they still suck. And would he still be considered one of the best ever??Comment
