Since hockey totals take action in a much narrower-range than NBA, oddsmakers are more limited when opening lines. For example, let's say Trashers will host Caps and you're expecting a high scoring game, probably 8 or 9 goals. Result of first two meetings between two sides were 4-5 and 3-4. Well, Linemaker cannot put up a 7½ goal line! That's the beauty of slim-range lines in hockey game. (Not to mention, the other two games between Caps and Trashers resulted 1-8 and 2-5)

I felt more comfortable taking the Caps on the PL instead. Washington's top two lines haven't been producing lately and Dallas just can't seem to score. We don't even know who is in net for Washington yet. Could either be Theodore who is red hot or Varlamov who has a GAA of 5.00 since the olympic break.

This game is not as simple as people think. We all know Washington can score and Dallas is a terrible road team but does that mean that there will be at least 7 goals scored in this contest? Caps have cooled down offensively since the break. I think there is value in the UNDER here.
