Islanders are an embarrassment to the National Hockey League
    26-47-9 season. 61 points.

Today they're getting routed by a Boston team that doesn't even care about the game and is resting guys.

this team is one of the worst teams I have ever seen.

They ended the season like this:

    5-4 loss at Carolina
    5-2 loss at Ottawa
6-2 loss at home against Minnesota (when does Minnesota ever score more than 4 goals? )
2-0 win in Detroit (Red Wings have a habit of losing to horrible teams)
4-3 loss at home to Philadelphia
    5-3 loss at Washington
5-1 loss at home to the pathetic Canadiens

3-1 win at home over awful Tampa Bay
    9-0 loss at Carolina (!!!!!!!!!)
    6-1 loss at Pittsburgh
3-2 loss at home to Philadelphia
Huge blowout loss at home against a Boston team that didn't care

So they lost 9 of their last 11, including some of the most embarrassing losses of the season by any team.

LOL yeah they are bad. But at least they have a 50% shot at getting the #1 pick in this year's draft and getting Tavares, that should help.

they should be kicked out of the NHL. They didn't even try to be competitive.

They lay down like dogs against teams that had nothing to play for.

      Islanders fans should get refunds.

          2006-07:
          Philadelphia 22 - 48 - 12 (56 points)

          2005-06:
          Pittsburgh 22 - 46 - 14 (58 points)
          St. Louis 21 - 46 - 15 (57 points)

Yes, they were miserable this year (and they are a horribly run franchise), but their season wasn't a historically bad one or anything.

I dunno Dave, it's not just that they had the worst record in the NHL, it's some of the horrible losses they suffered. 9-0 to Carolina?

Getting blown out at home by teams that had nothing to play for?

Seriously, look at the last four games of the season. They gave up 24 goals in four games and didn't get a single point. Two were at home. Average margin of defeat? Just a shade under 5 goals.

I thought even this horrible team would beat Boston today. The fact that they not only didn't beat Boston but they were never even in the game...

At the very least, they're the worst team of the past two seasons and no other team came close.

They're not anywhere near as bad as the 1992-93 Sens... that team was beyond pathetic. I went to the first game they played at the Québec Colisée against the Nordiques. They scored first... only to allow 9 unanswered goals.

Ive seen much worse teams than this seasons Islanders.
If you actually watch hockey you would know some of their top players have been missing alot of games recent.
                        Streit, Okposo etc.
This team has beat the Wings in their own building.
Tampa Bay is much worse than the isles, they are the ultimate choke team and have fewer wins then what you call an embarrassment to the NHL.
^ Sounds like someone crying because the truth hurts.

rock bottom but should get a great 1st rounder. A franchise changer?

Those early 2000's Penguins were awful to watch. I agree the Islanders were bad, but nothing out of the norm.

With a couple of decent young players as their core, coupled with the absolutely phenomenal player they are going to get in Tavares or Hedman, and (hopefully for them) a healthy DiPietro, next year shouldn't be nearly as bad.

I agree, I really like Streit and Opkoso is a very good young player. Rebuilding into a contender isn't easy, but rebuilding to respectablity isn't that hard.

Didn't they win like 4 cups in a row or something? I know they swept the Canucks in '82 finals.
They have just been one of the most mismanged teams of all times. They players they have traded away and the crap they got back in the last 10 years is amazing. Brutal.
