I live in Europe, I watch my team's every home games live, and I will never bet against them in the playoffs. If you bet against them, you don't want them to win.
It's true that you can predict your team's games easier because you know almost everything about them, but to bet against...

Agreed playoffs are a different story. In this scenario I would be okay advising others to bet against, but not sure I would bet for my team to lose. For example, I'd play Bruins TT OVER instead of Bruins ML...hoping that somehow Pens still win.

I think of it more as a consolation prize. I never (anymore) bet so much that if I lose I am crushed, bank roll management and staying on an even keel is key. I will bet against teams I root for all the time, they are teams I think I have the best feel for so why wouldn't I take advantage of that? I had Penguins TT over 2.5 for the last game and I didn't once root for them to score a goal. I played Bruins -2.5 before the third because I thought it was a good bet, but had nothing to do with what I was rooting for.

Being a fan of your team also allows you to understand not only their strengths, but their weaknesses as well...knowing which spots your favorite teams are overvalues is $$. You cannot let emotions you have of your favorite team sway you towards their side...that is a sure way to lose $$
