    Simple spreadsheet recipe, your thoughts?
I haven't spent a lot of time in Excel, but I work in the IT field so I'm fairly comfortable with computers. I'm sure I could figure out the ins and outs of Excel pretty quickly.

Basically, I'm trying to get my hands on a decent Spreadsheet for tracking bet history. I'm looking for something pretty simple. I suppose having one for each sport would be best. The layout would be something like this...

One column for each of the following pieces of information: the date, what the wager actually was (team/individual and whether the bet type was a spread, ML, O/U, etc), the amount of the wager (dollar amount), the outcome of the wager (+ or - and the dollar amount), and then the total running bank roll after the said amount has been added to, or subtracted from it.

With the number of bettors there are, a spreadsheet this simple must be floating around somewhere. Sure I'll geek things up some day in the future and bust out a full MySQL database for tracking this stuff, but I want to start getting things down in Excel now. This is my first real year of "serious" betting and I think it's a huge disadvantage if you don't really know where you're taking hits, where you may have a niche, and where you stand overall.

Any other thoughts on this? Are there any obvious (or....not so obvious) things that I've failed to mention that would be a good addition to the "recipe" for this spreadsheet? All help is appreciated!

SBR isn't the place to talk to winners anymore, this Think Tank looks like a ghost town.

          Amen to that.

Consider this thread closed I guess.

Kompulsive: I built a sheet similar to what you're describing in the summer for baseball, but it will work for all sports. I made it for use in an SBR contest so I added a lot of comments & explanations inside to make it as easy to use as possible for other people. There's 3 pages to it, as follows:

              1) Place Your Bets: This page is where you input all your information for each bet. There's 6 columns to include the date, team chosen, bet type, price, wager size, and result. Then, on the right, there is a place to input your starting bankroll, and the start/end date of whatever date range you're interested in viewing (On the "View Date Range")

              2) Summary stats: This displays all your results for everything you've input into the page, including W/L record overall, W/L for faves and dogs, units won/lost, current bankroll, and then a few other interesting stats that basically tell you how good of a bettor you are.

              3) View Date Range: This tab allows you to view any date range you want from your wagers. If you want to view know how you did in a particular week or month, you simply put the start/end dates in on the "Place Your Bets" tab.

Tabs 2 & 3 are locked because you don't need to edit them at all to operate the spreadsheet. All your info goes in on tab #1. Pretty much every field has commentary on it to explain what it is and how it works (hold the mouse over the little red triangle in the top corner of cells). Take a look and if you have any questions about it, feel free to ask.

                suicidekings,

This looks like a pretty good start for me. Kudos. At a quick glance, I'm not seeing where it pulls the "Favorite" and "Underdog" information from on the "Summary" page, or are you supposed to enter that manually? I suppose it'd probably be easier just to add a "Fave or Dog" column in the spread itself. There are a few more additions to make, but I think I could probably work with this. Now I just have to get homework caught up and some work work caught up so I can get this figured out!

the spreadsheet automatically tallies your stats for faves & underdogs based on the odds you enter.

                    Google 'TracktheBet'

Software I created that will allow you to organize your bets by Bet Type- Straight, Parlay, Teaser, Bet Category- Side, ML, Total, Wager Type- Home/Road Favs, Home/Road Dogs, Conference-Division and Team.

it also will give you alerts based on your overall performance and ROI.

Should be in Beta next month- pm me if you are interested in beta testing.

few days ago i started a similar thread and got a similar response... but i was able to put together something simple...

check it out ( i know its a zip file but dont worry only did that because it wouldn't let me upload a .xlsx)

Let me know when you get something a little more detailed put together because im interested.

Im not familiar with IT. But as a bettor I use for a long long time Google mail documents for spreadsheets.
-Its very simple just like you work in your excel file. But Google mail gives you the option to have an access everywhere when you are online.
-In your Gmail, you have in upper left corner, "DOCUMENTS" section.
-You enter there and create a new spreadsheet for tracking your bets.
-Also you can make many spreadsheets, depending what you want to follow. For example many tipsters who you follow for each document. Or each document for different betting like in asian bets and fixed bets.
-Also you can create different spreadsheets for different sports.
-And not just that. In each spreadsheet, you can add OTHERS EMAILS. So others can track every single edit of yours , to see the spreadsheet. They enter mail and see what you edited online.
-By the way if you need to automatically calculate something in one box like profit from 1 bet you can add with a double click the apropriate formula. It works nice.
-If need further help with this or to see how it works I can simply add you in 1 my spreadsheet as a "viewer" to see how it looks like...
