Week 2 pickups of the week
week 2 pickups of the week

    QB: Christian Ponder
Ponder had his most accurate game as a pro last week, dissecting the Jacksonville Jaguars for 270 yards on 20 of 27 passing. Embattled and often hamstrung as a rookie, the strong-armed QB looks to have earned a longer leash in his second year. And where he lacked a reliable supporting cast in 2011, he now benefits from an apparently healthy Adrian Peterson and an apparently healthy Kyle Rudolph. He's still a work in progress, but early returns are positive and the Vikings pivot could be a sneaky good play against the miserable Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.

    Rb: Alfred Morris
Morris drew the start and (somewhat unexpectedly) carried the load for the Redskins on Sunday, tallying 96 yards and two TDs on 28 carries. Because the Redskins held the lead, their rookie back benefitted from 11 clock-burning fourth quarter carries. That won't always be the case, as we suspect the better rounded Roy Helu will get the call when his team is playing from behind. There are no guarantees in Mike Shanahan's backfield, but with the lowly Rams next on tap, Morris owners should breathe easy for at least one more week.

    Wr: Randall Cobb
Cobb, a converted college quarerback, barely factored into Green Bay's offensive plans in 2011, though he did turn heads as a dynamic return man. A remarkable athlete, Cobb looks to have earned a feature role on offense this year. In addition to his punt and kick return duties, he lined up at both running back and receiver versus the 49ers. The athletic multi-threat didn't record a carry, but caught all nine passes thrown his way and scored on a punt return while netting 230 combined total yards. He has all the makings of a bona fide fantasy superstar and should be scooped off any unplundered waiver wires immediately.

    Wr:steven hill
Offensive dominance is not something many of us expected to see from the Jets this year. And few of us expected a large segment of that dominance to be delivered in the hands of a rookie wide receiver who admitted to ESPN.com in the preseason that running proper pro routes was a struggle. But Hill, an imposing big-bodied receiver with blazing speed, looked to have found his stride during his regular season debut. The Georgia Tech product scorched the Jets for five catches, 89 yards and two scores, despite playing through a stomach bug that had him puking on the sidelines in between plays. He and QB Mark Sanchez will be hard-pressed to maintain their elevated level of play against Pittsburgh in Week 2, but this tandem will have plenty of opportunities down the road to get better acquainted with one another.

    Wr: Kevin Ogletree

Ogletree recorded the first two touchdowns of his NFL career last Wednesday during a performance that will almost certainly make the fourth-year wideout the most added fantasy player for Week 2. Last season, Laurent Robinson thrived in the third WR-role that Ogletree now holds. It bears mentioning, however, that Ogletree's breakout game came against a Giants secondary that has been decimated by injuries. In addition, two of the best Cowboys receivers -- Jason Witten and Miles Austin -- were limited by injuries, forcing Tony Romo to spread the ball around. Don't expect double-digit fantasy points to be the norm, but if you have room on your roster Ogletree is definitely worth the add.

    Wr-rb: Dexter McCluster
A utility knife player who was too often kept in the drawer during the Todd Haley days, McCluster looked sharp and figured prominently in new coordinator Brian Daboll's offense. Though he didn't take any handoffs, McCluster was the top receiving target for the Chiefs on Sunday. His skills have never been in question, it was just a matter of getting the ball in his hands. With a new lease on life and a more clearly defined offensive role, he could be in line for a breakthrough season.

    Te: Kyle Rudolph
The 22-year-old was a popular sleeper pick in fantasy drafts this year and tantalized those risk-taking owners with an impressive Week 1 performance. Rudolph was a matchup nightmare for the Jaguars, burning them for 67 yards including a beautiful 29-yard basket catch that nearly landed him in the endzone. A borderline top-10 fantasy tight end, Rudolph is the healthiest he's been as a pro and seems to be developing great chemistry with QB Christian Ponder. These two could hook up often next week against the lowly Colts.

    Kicker: Blair Walsh
On the one hand, Blair had a shaky preseason with three missed field goals. On the other hand, his 12 preseason attempts were an indication not only of his job security, but also of how much work he was likely to get when the games started to matter. The rookie kicker had a stellar debut in his team's home opener, hitting on attempts from 20,42, 55 and 38 yards, including a game-tie with zeroes on the clock and a game-winner in overtime. The youngster acquitted himself well and proved he could be counted on to perform under pressure. Keep him in mind if your drafted kicker disappoints you.

Week 2 Waiver Wire Hot Picks!

LOTS of standouts this week that are NOT on anyone's teams! Which do you want Or need cause of injury?? Here's a few guys that might help relieve the pain and fill in for some time. They have potentially started a hot streak or produced big in Week 1.
    • Running Backs

C.J. Spiller Buf @ KC Week 2 : Spiller filled in nicely after Jackson left with what we believe to be a spained LCL (out 3weeks MIN and 6 weeks MAX) producing 169yards 1TD on 14 carries with 25yards receiving on 2receptions. Spiller filled in nicely for Jackson last season as well as Spiller averaged over 101 yards a game. Expect Spiller to see a 3-down back work-load this week against the Chiefs.

Alfred Morris Was @ STL Week 2 : I DO NOT TRUST the Shananigiens in the Redskins back field. 3 backs totally capable of carrying the work-load and as of now it appears that Rookie Alfred Morris is the "hot hand". Shanahan said “Alfred right now is our starting running back and I thought he did a good job." As well as telling reporters that Morris earned every bit of work. With Helu and Royster totaling just 2 touches combined, Morris appears to be the go-to guy as of now but do not expect Morris to be a week-in/week-out produce for 16games. Rams just allowed RB Kevin Smith 62yards rushing, 1TD on 13touches and 4receptions for 29yards 1TD.

Michael Bush Chi @ GB Week 2 : As expected Michael Bush came out in short yardage situations along with some 3rd down work and all the 1st half goal-line/inside the 8yard line work. Forte didnt score until the 3rd quarter when the Bears have a solid lead over the Colts. Bush ended with 12 carries for 42yards and 2TDs on the day and Bush could be in for very similar work-loads in the future.

    • Wide Receivers

Randall Cobb GB vs Chi Week 2 : Cobb is not just the Packers Punt return specialist but he also looked to assume the 3rd-down RB role on Sunday. Cobb didnt see any carries out of the back field but he was a lock for 3rd down conversions collecting 5 of his 9 receptions as 1st-downs. Cobb could see a increased snap count and playing time as well as potential increase in targets IF/IF Greg Jennings (groin) is forced to miss Week 2. Much like Percy Harvin, Cobb has tailback-like running ability after the catch.
James Jones GB vs Chi Week 2 : Jones as well could be called upon with Jennings possibly forced out of Week 2 with a groin injury. Jones didnt record a reception until the 2nd half on Sunday but once Jones got going he was a solid option for Rodgers. Jones hauled in 3 consecutive receptions on a Green Bay scoring drive with the first going for 49 yards, and the final resulting in a 10-yard touchdown grab. He finished with 4 receptions for 81 yards and the score in the 30-22 loss.

Kevin Olgetree Dal @ Sea Week 2 : Olgetree stole the show on Wednesday night against the Giants bringing in 8receptions on 11 targets for 114yards and 2TDs as the Cowboys No.2 receiver. We saw Robinson succeed last year in a Cowboys powerful passing attack as a No.3 that was faced up against man/man coverage and lesser talented DBs. Romo took total advantage of that and showed plenty of confidence Wednesday night throwing to who ever the No.3 WR was (Olgetree in this situation). Some would see Olgetree as a "flash in the pan" but Robinson had produced just over 1,000 yards and 4total TDs in his 4 years prior to joining Dallas in-which he then topped his career numbers as he produced 858yards on 54receptions with 11TDs in just 14 games.

Stephen Hill NYJ @ Pits Week 2 : What the hell happened to the Jets offense on Sunday? Test that team for every type of performance enhancing anything! Not saying that to be a bad statement but with just 1TD scored in preseason, C'MON MAN! Where did the explosion come from? Rookie WR Stephen Hill was a solid performer, a kid I've liked since his 4.3 - 40yard dash at the combine. The Jets are in serious need of help at the receiver spot and play-maker ability and with Hill standing 6'4 will give Sanchez a solid but very raw target to go to. Holmes the Jets official No.1 receiver only saw 2 more targets (8 total) then Hill (6)

(Other potential Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Hot Picks - Alshon Jeffrey @ GB, Andrew Hawkins vs Cle, Dexter McCluster @ Buf)

    • Tight Ends

Dennis Pitta Balt @ Phi Week 2 : Pitta led the Ravens in targets (9) as well as receptions (5) and yards (73). Pitta played well bringing in a 10yard TD strike in the 3rd quarter from Flacco. Pitta had just 1receptions for 12 yards before halftime but Flacco looked his way early and often in the 2nd half. Keep in mind that Tight End Ed Dickson is worth monitoring as well as the Ravens took Pitta and Dickson in the 2010 draft in the 3rd and 4th Rounds as the Ravens like to utilize both guys.

Marcedes Lewis Jax vs Hou Week 2: Lewis finished with 5 receptions for 52 yards and a TD. He caught every pass thrown his way and Gabbert looked much improved from last year. The Jaguars said all preseason that they intended to use Lewis as a key figure in the red zone this season and they backed up their intentions Week 1. Lewis was not only reliable in the red zone Sunday, but he was one of QB Blaine Gabbert's top targets between the 20s with 3 targets.

Kyle Rudolph Min @ Indy Week 2 : Rudolph was targeted 7 times on Sunday, which was 2nd on the team behind only WR Percy Harvin's 8 targets. The Vikings are in need of receiving play-makers to take extra heat off of returning RB Adrian Peterson. Rudolph finished with 5receptions for 67yards with a longest of 29. Vikings coach Leslie Frazier raved all preseason about how Rudolph will be a favorite target of QB Christian Ponder this season, and the duo didn't disappoint Week 1. Rudolph might end up as Ponder's 2nd favorite target this season behind Harvin. Rudolph needs to start finding the end zone before he becomes a reliable Fantasy option but keep monitoring him.

(Other potential Tight End Waiver Wire Hot Picks - Scott Chandler vs KC, Martellus Bennett vs TB, Coby Fleener vs Min)

I'm thinking about K.Rudolph or D.Pitta as my Week 7 BYE TE week replacement.

My waiver position is 10, so I have no shot at the top guys this week. Unless the guys in my league are sleeping. A.Morris is the top guy available in my league, and I'm not sold on him anyway. I can't rely on a Redskin RB.

There is always overreaction on the waiver after Week 1, and kinda happy I'm 10th on waivers.

                  Bowman is a tackling machine
One of the most steady tacklers in IDP fantasy.
I have to thank him for having a good year last year, in my fantasy league

Not a glitzy name, Patrick Willis seems to get a lot of commentator attention
but us IDP players know Bowman is a great points in tackling

Look at their schedule through week 6: CLE, @WAS, @JAC, MIA, @CLE. With the exception of week 3 @WAS you are opposing 2x Weeden, Gabbert and Tannehill.

It sounds like Chargers RB Ryan Mathews is 50-50 to be available for Week 2. HC Norv Turner says Mathews "could be cleared for contact tomorrow or a week from tomorrow."

Bills RB Fred Jackson (knee) expects to be back in 4 weeks. That falls within the 3-8 week timetable the team has provided. “Hopefully sooner, but I’ll definitely be back in four weeks,” Jackson said. “Without a doubt.” Just keep in mind that players are often optimistic about their speed of recovery. Fred Jax did confirm that the knee is only sprained. “No tear. I’m good,” he said. “Obviously I’m not where I want to be right now, but I feel good after looking at the film and then getting evaluated. So hopefully things happen sooner rather than later.”

Colts HC Chuck Pagano says WR Austin Collie (concussion) has been cleared to play in Sunday's game against the Vikings. He's been practicing for over a week now and should be ready to play a significant role. Ideally, though, you're able keep him on your bench for at least 1 week. Consider Collie a risky WR3 option against Minnesota.

Packers WR Greg Jennings (groin) is officially listed as doubtful for Thursday night's game against the Bears. He needs to be on fantasy benches. James Jones will start in Jennings' place and makes for a high-upside WR3 option. Jennings' absence should also mean more touches for Week 1 star Randall Cobb.

Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin (hip) did not practice on Wednesday. We expected as much after he woke up sore on Monday morning. Maclin's first real test will come on Thursday. If he sits out again it'll be time to start making contingency plans for Week 2.

Titans WR Jared Cook was on the field for 60 of the team's 65 offensive snaps in Week 1. That's 92% -- a big increase over the 59% he played last year. Cook has improved enough as a blocker to be an every-down TE. It gives him plenty of upside the rest of the way. It's also worth noting that Cook played 92% of the Week 1 snaps despite Tennessee going with 3 WRs on 62% of their plays.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks (foot) was held out of practice on Wednesday. It's a concern considering the G-Men have been off for a week. Nicks admitted that his foot was a little sore after the opener against the Cowboys. We're still fully expecting him to play against the Bucs this Sunday, but the foot continues to be worth monitoring.

Then picked up R.Meachem, because someone dropped him on Sunday.

I made our league vote, to set the waivers to be set at game time of each player. K.Ogletree was a freebee, but no more Thursday game players being readily available after a break out game.
