Did you draft Rodgers, Brees, Brady or Vick and not win your league last season?
Well unless you got lucky and drafted Sproles, Cruz, Gronk, Jordy, or in a league full of idiots, then probaly not.
I am a 10 year veteran of fantasy football and in over 1000 drafts Ive never taken a quarterback before round 6 ever. Why? You only start one qb, you have to start at least 2 rb, 2 or 3 wr and most leagues now have flex players where you can start 3 rb and even 4 wr. Ive done over 500 mocks already in 2012 and I can tell you that most teams that took a qb early all have serious holes on there team.
Do you really want to be stuck with Beanie Wells or Reggie Bush as one of your top rb? I didn't think so.
Aaron Rodgers is currently going pick 4 and in virtually every mock draft Ive done, the feedback from the player that has Rodgers is,"well I could of done better
at wr or rb, but at least I have Rodgers". That will not cut it. To win you must have a good all around team and there are plenty of qb's you can take later in the draft.
Qb's that are going in round 1 are Rodgers,Brady,Brees.
Cam Newton is averaging around pick 16 but has gone as high as 8 and as
low as the mid 3rd round.
As people continue to mock they are noticing more and more the quality of qb's they can get later.
After Stafford as a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick. The next qb off the board is Michael Vick averaging around pick 5 in round 5. So Vick is being taken
on average 18 picks after Stafford.
The next qb off the board is usually Eli or Peyton Manning averaging as a mid to late 5th round pick.
What, What about Romo. Romo is averaging round 6 pick 4 followed by Rivers in round 6. Matt Ryan's average pick is round 7 followed by Robert Giffen and Schaub in round 8 and Cutler and Big Ben in round 9. Ryan as the 11th qb and Cutler as the 15th qb off the board sounds great doesn't it?
Well I am here too tell you, that if you want to win your league in 2012, you will wait for your qb and take either Matt Ryan or Jay Cuter. You can always draft a backup in Josh Freeman, Matt Flynn or Ryan Fitzpatrick later as a backup and they will do just fine.
Matt Ryan is 26 and will be entering his 5th year in the NFL for the Atlanta
Falcons. His numbers have gone up each season from 16 to 22 to 28 and 29 td the last 4 seasons. Ryan went from 3705 yards in 2010 to 4,177 yards in 2011.
Ryan even had 2 rushing td last season. Not bad for a statue.
Ryan has 2 great weapons at wr in Roddy White and Julio Jones. White is
entering his 8th year with 5 consecutive years with over 1100 yards and had 115 receptions in 2010 and 100 in 2011 even with the emergence of rookie Julio Jones. Look for Roddy to have another good season. He has to slow down something , but i see no reason that will be anytime soon.
Julio Jones played in 13 games last season and totalled for 959 yards and 8
touchdowns. Look for Julio to have a monster season in 2012. Look for Julio
to get around 1200 yards and 12-14 td making him and excellent
early round 4 pick. He is averaging pick 3 in round 4.
Let's not forget about Tony Gonzalez. Tony is now 36 and entering his 16th season and his 4th with the Falcons.
Last year Tony snagged 80 balls for 875 yards and 7 td. Tony has only missed 2 games in his career. One in 2006 and one in 1999. Not bad at all for someone averaging around round 10 in 12 team mock drafts.
Ryan also last year had 4 passing touchdowns to his running backs and they will be incorporating more short passes to Jacqizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling and even Michael Turner
Completing an unusual swap of offensive coordinators, the Falcons hired Dirk Koetter from Jacksonville to replace Mike Mularkey only four days after the Jaguars introduced Mularkey as their new coach.
The Falcons hired Koetter despite the Jaguars ranking last in the league in total offense and yards passing in 2011. Koetter's offense ranked 29th with its average of 15.2 points per game.
Koetter was hired as Jacksonville's offensive coordinator in 2007. He worked with Falcons coach Mike Smith for one year. Smith was the Jaguars' defensive coordinator before he became Atlanta's head coach in 2008.
Smith said Koetter will bring "a fresh set of ideas to our offense."
The Falcons also added 2 offensive lineman in the draft. Peter Konz from
Wisconsin and Lamar Holmes from Souther Miss and a big fullback in the 5th round Bradie Ewing from Wisconsin.
Last season the Falcons had a difficult schedule for teams in fantasy playoffs.
This season however, they play New Orleans at home during week 13, at Carolina in week 14, followed by the Giants and if you somehow make the fantasy superbowl in week 16 you will be facing Detroit at Detroit which should be a shootout. The Falcons have the easiest schedule in the NFL this season.
My Sleeper QB for 2012 is Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears.
Jay threw for 2319 yards and 13 td after playing just ten games because of injury. Jay is not back and healthy and has his old teammate Brandon Marshall whom came over from the Miami Dolphins after snagging in 81 receptions for 1214 yards and 6 td. When Marshall was in denver in 2009 he snagged in
101 receptions for 1120 yards and 10 td. Look for Marshall to have a great year in 2012 with the Bears.
Cutler also has weapons in matt forte and newly acquired Michael Bush from the Raiders. With the 2nd round pick, the bears selected Alshon Jeffery from South Carolina . Jeffrey is 6-4 229 and will be a great deep and goaline threat for the Bears.
The Bears open up the season against the Colts on Sunday sept 9th at home and Cutler will rip the Colts apart as you see lead yourself to a victory in your fantasy league in week 1 just from the performance of Cutler.
They then follow up with Green bay, st louis, dallas and jacksonville. All teams with weak secondarys. Then after a bye they play Detroit at home on monday night football against Detroit, Carolina and then a road trip to tennessee.
When, not if, you make the fantasy playoffs with Cutler, you have Seatle durig week 13, at minnesota in week 14, greenbay in week 15 and in the fantasy championship you will be facing Arizona at Arizona.
For your bye week qb, just don't take the best qb available, take the qb that has the best matchup during your starting qb's bye week. Chicago's bye week is week 6 and Mark Sanchez will be playing the Colts at home and Bradford will be playing Miami at home.
Atlanta's bye week is also week 6 so you can't go wrong with Matt Ryan or Jay Cutler in 2012.
In my last mock draft i mocked out of the 2nd pick and took Foster 2nd after the 1st pick took McCoy. I then followed up with Brandon Marshall and Darren Sproles. Of course this is a ppr mock. I then followed up those picks with Demaryius Thomas of Denver and Roy Helu. Yes i know, don't draft a redskin RB, but that is for another story later. I then took Antonio Brown of the Steelers followed by Aaron Hernandez giving me 3 rb 3 wr and a tight end after 7 picks.
I could of took Matt Ryan over Hernandez but it's a mock draft, lets see where I can get Cutler. I could of went with Ryan and then took Fred Davis of Washington in the next round. Instead I went Hernandez and then took Fred Davis as a te bye week option or flex play and then took Jay Cutler in round 9 with the 2nd pick. I followed that up by going for depth.
I already have my staring team set., so now its time to go for some rookies and sleepers so i selected David Wilson of the Giants in round 10. With Jacobs gone and Bradshaw an injury risk, Wilson makes for a good round 10 selection. In round 11 I took Daniel Thomas of miami followed by Josh Freeman, and with my last 3 selections i took Phily, Austin Collie and Stephen Hill of the Jets.
Tony Romo is also a good pickup for 2012 as he is going in late round 6 or early 7. Possible 30 td in round 7. Are you kidding me.
Get those rb and wr early and lead your team to a fantasy championship in 2012.
Im not the best writer but improving. It's about winning and having fun, not writing. Ive already written 40 articles tonight. You can listen to my Fantasy football radio show starting in August.
