I'm not so sure, maybe in the the fourth year of a five year contract he may show signs of regression.
He's still only 31, he's at or right near his prime now.
For a guy who strikes out 100 times he has a nice career OBA.

I can never hate on Springer, he's one of us, Connecticut's very own, pride of the UConn Huskies too.
Believe it or not Connecticut is a very, very good baseball state.
We're always top five in the East until we play teams from Arizona, Texas, or California, those beasts bitch slap the good smaller schools.

Yes, and their rotation plus the bullpen is pretty solid.
I like McNeil very good hitter, they have plenty of power in Alonso, JD Davis, and Dom Smith (Conforto is never healthy)
Mets made a serious upgrade behind the dish too.

I'm hardly a Mets fan but I say they are a serious contender in the East, not quite LA or SD good, but who knows how far they can go this season.

Mets fans finally have a reason to believe.

Let's see, would I rather have Brandon Nimmo or George Springer starting in my outfield?
Difficult decision, let me think awhile on that one.

                        Why not?

His home town is within driving distance from Queens in Connecticut, the owner has and is willing to spend what it takes, and he would be going to an instant contender not to mention he'll be thousands of miles away from all the Houston abuse those guys will receive this year.

Nationals sign Kyle Schwarber for 1 year worth $10 million.

                          Didn't have a good 2020 year.

super talented for sure/ but still early on enough, that this seems a bit risky to me, you are buying out like 4 more years of relatively cheap trial labor, no? seems the pads would have a bit more leverage this early on in giving the gaurantee

Lindor type shortstops are a commodity.
Think about all the elite SS's there have been in the past two decades.
How many do you come with?
                                    Maybe six?

more than 6 if we are looking for shortstops with 3-4 years of big impact.... more importantly how many do we project we see in the next 20 years, that determines the value here...

the question isn't if he is a commodity, but why try to buy out cheap years of labor at an elevated rather than discounted rate.

the player gets the extra years of security and guaranteed $ and more $ in years 3-6 of the contract for immediate gratification.

this allows the team to offer an amount that is well below what the market value for said player is on the open market. Given the state of the market right now, and that Tatis is tethered to the Pads for 4 more years no matter what. they aren't given themselves much of a discount for a player with less than 1k mlb ab's

Bryant will be fantastic on the Jays because Vladdy Jr is too fat to play 3rd.
