ARI - RB David Johnson made push to play Week 7

    Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (ankle) started in Week 7 in large part because he wanted 'give playing a shot,' but head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Johnson didn't feel right after a couple plays, leading to Kingsbury' decision to feature Chase Edmonds.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson got the first carry of the game then promptly exited the contest. Edmonds is the hottest name on the waiver wire...unless you already picked him up a couple of weeks ago. The Cardinals are working out running backs this week, so perhaps they'll shut down Johnson completely until he's fully healed.

KC - KC gets (relatively) good news on QB Patrick Mahomes

Source: Kansas City Star - Herbie Teope

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) underwent an MRI on Friday, Oct. 18.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Chiefs here. Head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder provided an update on Monday, Oct. 21, telling reporters Mahomes' injury 'turned out as (well) as we could (have) possibly imagined.' They'll still be without Mahomes for a few weeks (most likely). Veteran Matt Moore will start in his place.

ATL - QB Matt Ryan likely to miss 1-2 weeks

Source: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - D. Orlando Ledbetter

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (ankle) is believed to have suffered a high-ankle sprain on his right ankle in Week 7 versus the Los Angeles Rams, according to Dr. David J. Chao, who believes Ryan could miss one to two weeks.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

These type of sprains are known to linger if not given enough time to properly heal. Falcons coach Dan Quinn has not ruled Ryan out for Week 8, noting the quarterback is already running in a pool as part of his recovery. If Ryan is out, the Falcons turn to Matt Schaub as their starter.

CIN - WR A.J. Green may have a shot at Week 8 return

    Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (ankle) will not be automatically ruled out for Week 8, although head coach Zac Taylor told reporters he won't play Green against the Los Angeles Rams unless he can practice in full.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green is getting closer to a return but there's no clear timetable...because there has never really been one. Many have speculated that Green won't return to the field until after the trade deadline on the 29th of October. We'll see if Green can actually get a full practice in this week. Stash him on your bench if he's out there on the waiver wire.

CAR - Kyle Allen to get another start

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen will start at quarterback in Week 8 against the San Francisco 49ers, according to head
    coach Ron Rivera.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cam Newton is not ready to come back just yet. He may or may not start practicing this week as Rivera pointed out. Allen has a tough match against the 49ers in Week 8, so his 4-game streak of being unbeaten may be difficult to continue. If Allen struggles or the team starts to lose, then Newton could be back much sooner.

MIN - WR Adam Thielen expected to miss just one game

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling

Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Monday, Oct. 21, that confirmed much of the optimism reporters heard after the team's Week 7 game. While Thielen will likely miss Week 8 versus the Washington Redskins, he should be fine after that, according to Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Good news for the Vikings here. Without Thielen on Thursday night, Stefon Diggs should be in for an incredibly large workload.

HOU - WR Will Fuller likely to miss several weeks

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Updating previous reports, Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) is expected to miss 'several weeks' after suffering 'a rather significant hamstring pull,' according to a source via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller is incredibly talented but he's oft-injured. A hamstring injury, especially one this severe, can really limit a speedy receiver like Fuller. The Texans turn to Kenny Stills in his place, and we should see Keke Coutee work as the team's No. 3 receiver with Fuller out.

NO - QB Drew Brees aiming to return this week

    Source: ESPN.com - Mike Triplett

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) will return to practice this week with an eye on returning for Week 8.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team is winning with Teddy Bridgewater, so there's no need to rush Brees back especially the way the schedule shakes out. If Brees can't make it back this week, he should be back after the Week 9 bye week.

CAR - QB Cam Newton will not practice

Source: The Athletic - Joseph Person

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) will not participate in practice this week and will work with the trainers on the sidelines. Head coach Ron Rivera said he is not sure if Newton will travel with the team for the Week 8 game.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Newton would face Tennessee in Week 9 if he gets the start. It sounds like the team is taking it extremely slow with him, which makes sense since they are undefeated since Kyle Allen took over. Most expect Newton will be the starter as soon as he is healthy.

OAK - Oakland works out RB C.J. Anderson

    Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) recently worked out for the Oakland Raiders.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Raiders don't have a true between the tackles grinder behind Josh Jacobs. Anderson fits that role. With running back injuries starting to pile up, Anderson should be signed somewhere soon.

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson does not practice

    Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 21. The Redskins did not hold an official practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He apparently had an MRI on the ankle and is awaiting results. Even if he can go on Thursday, he's not a good play against Minnesota. The Washington backfield could be down their top three backs against the Vikings.

ATL - RB Ito Smith a no-go for Week 8

Source: The Athletic - Jason Butt

Atlanta Falcons RB Ito Smith (concussion) was ruled out by head coach Dan Quinn for Week 8 against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith didn't do much in Week 7 before he was concussed. The Falcons will use Brian Hill as a backup to starter Devonta Freeman.

CLE - RB Kareem Hunt allowed to practice

    Source: ClevelandBrowns.com - Nick Shook

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt (abdomen) has been cleared by the NFL to rejoin the team and begin practicing with them Monday, Oct. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hunt is still suspended, but the NFL is allowing him to return to practice two weeks before he is reinstated. He has spent this time recovering from sports hernia surgery while suspended. Hunt will be a backup to stud running back Nick Chubb upon his return. His workload is unknown as Chubb is one of the bright spots for the Browns offense. Add Hunt in deeper leagues as an 'in case of emergency' stash.

      Wednesday Update

DET - RB Kerryon Johnson headed to IR

      Source: ESPN.com - Michael Rothstein

Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson (knee) underwent a procedure on his injured knee Tuesday, Oct. 22, and will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, according to head coach Matt Patricia.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Patricia believes that Johnson will be able to return towards the end of the regular season. This is two years in a row that Johnson has dealt with knee problems. The Lions now turn to rookie Ty Johnson as their starter. They'll use J.D. McKissic working as a change-of-pace back.

DEN - WR Emmanuel Sanders dealt to 49ers

      Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders was traded along with a 2020 fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for 2020 third- and fourth-round picks on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Broncos weren't using Sanders that much anyway. Their passing game is not that great outside of Courtland Sutton and that's not going to change by getting rid of Sanders. DaeSean Hamilton gets to step into Sanders role but don't expect a lot from the disappointing second-year pro who has dropped too many passes and struggled to get open in 2019.

MIN - WR Adam Thielen rapidly improving

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Ben Goessling

Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen (hamstring) is improving quickly, and he has a chance to play in Week 8 Thursday, Oct. 24, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Great news for the Vikings here. We think it's likely Thielen is going to miss their game in Week 8...primarily because it's on Thursday night. But stay tuned. We should see him back in action for Week 9.

NE - WR Mohamed Sanu acquired by Patriots

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Atlanta Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu was acquired by the New England Patriots Tuesday, Oct. 22, in exchange for a second-round pick. The Patriots previously tried to acquire Sanu during the NFL draft.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's a pretty high price tag for the Patriots to pay, but they wanted him before the draft and now get their man since the Falcons season is in the tank. The addition of Sanu means Phillip Dorsett and Josh Gordon could be in for a smaller role. Also, expect to see Sanu used on a trick play here or there.

ARI - RB Alfred Morris finds new home in Arizona

      Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent RB Alfred Morris (Cowboys) signed an undisclosed contract with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cardinals worked Morris out back in September and now go back to the veteran back. With David Johnson banged up, Morris gives the team veteran depth behind starter Chase Edmonds.

CAR - WR Braxton Miller signs with Panthers

      Source: Panthers.com

Free-agent WR Braxton Miller (Browns) was signed to the Carolina Panthers' practice squad Tuesday, Oct. 22. CB Natrell Jamerson (foot) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list, and WR DeAndrew White was signed to the 53-man roster.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miller has never played up to his potential as a pro. The converted college quarterback has been trying his hand at wide receiver for some time. He's super athletic but has never really put it all together. We'll see if he can impress on the Panthers practice squad.

WAS - RB Adrian Peterson update

      Source: ESPN.com - Josina Anderson

Washington Redskins RB Adrian Peterson (ankle) has a Grade 1 high ankle sprain and a Grade 2 low ankle sprain.

      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It will be interesting to see if Peterson is ready for Week 8. Washington travels to play Minnesota on Thursday night. With this banged up ankle, perhaps Peterson will get a smaller role. He claims to be good to go for Thursday, but Wendell Smallwood might get more work.

          Thursday Update

NE - WR Josh Gordon placed in IR

          Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates

New England Patriots WR Josh Gordon (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Oct. 23, according to a source.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon hasn't done a whole lot for the Patriots offense this year. He's got 20 catches for 287 yards and one touchdown in 2019. Reports indicate Gordon will be released once he's healthy and that this knee injury is rather minor in nature. The Patriots move forward with Mohamed Sanu and Julian Edelman likely to get plenty of work. Rookie first-round pick N'Keal Harry will also be in the mix when healthy.

NO - QB Drew Brees says plan is to play Sunday

Source: NFL Network - Steve Wyche

Updating a previous story, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) said 'the plan' is for him to return Sunday, Oct. 27, against the Arizona Cardinals.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if that's the case. The Saints have a bye in Week 9, so there's no need to rush him back....especially against the hapless Cardinals defense.

IND - WR T.Y. Hilton sits out Wednesday

          Source: Colts.com

Indianapolis Colts WR T.Y. Hilton (non-injury) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hilton is just getting some rest here. The Colts are at home to take on the Broncos in Week 8, so Hilton has a tough draw as CB Chris Harris should be covering him for most of the game.

CIN - WR A.J. Green listed as limited

Source: NFL Network - Omar Ruiz

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (ankle) was limited during practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor wants Green to practice fully before he plays this year. That's not happening this week, so it's another week that Green is down. The word is the team could have him ready in the near future, but there has never been a concrete timetable for Green's return.

MIN - WR Adam Thielen to miss Week 8

          Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings WR Adam Thielen (hamstring) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, and has been ruled out for Week 8.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zero surprise here. Thielen is recovering at a good rate but wouldn't be available on this short week as the Vikings play on Thursday night. He should be back in Week 9.

CAR - QB Cam Newton not practicing

          Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, as expected.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There's a lot riding on the Week 8 matchup against the 49ers. The Panthers have been winning with backup quarterback Kyle Allen, but they have a huge test against the 49ers defense this week. So long as the team is winning, there's no need to rush Newton back out there. If things go a different direction and the team starts to struggle, then we'll see Newton back in action as the team's starter.

PIT - RB James Conner expected to play

          Source: ESPN - Brooke Pryor

Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner (quadriceps) is expected to play in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Steelers are at home on Monday night against the Dolphins and Conner should be locked in as an RB1 for Fantasy GMs. We'll see what his practice status is during the week with Saturday being the final day for confirmation that Conner will be good to go.

HOU - WR Kenny Stills takes part in practice

          Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans WR Kenny Stills (ankle, hamstring) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stills is the No. 2 receiver for the Texans with Will Fuller down. That makes him a WR2 or flex play for Fantasy GMs.

NYJ - WR Demaryius Thomas limited Wednesday

          Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Thomas is at that point in his career where he's going to be limited with various ailments. He should be good to go for Week 8.

NYJ - TE Chris Herndon limited in practice

          Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Herndon's hamstring has kept him out of the last couple of games. We'll see if he can actually get out there for the first time this season in Week 8.

ARI - RB Zach Zenner signs with Cards

          Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Free-agent RB Zach Zenner (Saints) signed with the Arizona Cardinals Wednesday, Oct. 23. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The team also released CB Trevor Williams.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Zenner and Alfred Morris have joined the team over the last two days. They need depth at the running back position with David Johnson banged up. Chase Edmonds is the lead back.

SF - WR Emmanuel Sanders expected to play Sunday

Source: NBC Sports Bay Area - Matt Maiocco

San Francisco 49ers WR Emmanuel Sanders is expected to play Sunday, Oct. 27, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It shouldn't take Sanders that long to get up to speed. The offense ran by Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco is nearly identical to what they run in Denver with Shanahan disciple OC Rich Scangarello.

WAS - RB Chris Thompson ruled out

          Source: Redskins.com

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, and has been ruled out for Week 8.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fantasy GMs in deeper leagues might see Wendell Smallwood as a 'what the heck' flex with Thompson down in Week 8.

MIN - TE Kyle Rudolph on track to play

          Source: Vikings.com

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph (thumb) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, and is not on the injury report for Week 8.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Rudolph scored his first touchdown of the season last week. As the Vikings passing game has more punch, Rudolph has more fantasy value. He's worth considering as a streaming tight end option.

JAX - QB Nick Foles to be limited Wednesday

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles (collarbone) is expected to be a limited participant during practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could be seeing the last few weeks of 'Minshew Mania' with the Jaguars. Foles is expected to be activated from the Reserve/Injured list in time for the Week 11 game. We'll see if Garnder Minshew still has the team excited about his play during that time.

KC - More on QB Patrick Mahomes

Source: NFL Network - James Palmer

Updating an earlier report, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) will throw the ball today at practice, and they'll see if he can make it through the individual period.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll have to see how Mahomes responds to this physical activity. Matt Moore is still getting the first-team reps and we think Moore starts in Week 8 even though Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has not ruled Mahomes out. The team will be smart with their superstar quarterback. He wants to get back out there but it's better to proceed with caution and bring him back in a couple of weeks.

ARI - RB David Johnson out of practice

          Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (ankle) is out of practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We may not see Johnson for some time. This week, the Cardinals have added running back talent like Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner to improve their depth. Chase Edmonds is the lead back for this team for the foreseeable future.

DET - RB Paul Perkins activated

          Source: DetroitLions.com - Tim Twentyman

Detroit Lions RB Paul Perkins was added to the 53-man roster Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Lions need depth at the running back position with Kerryon Johnson going to Injured Reserve. Rookie Ty Johnson could be the lead back, but expect J.D. McKissic to get work too as a runner and receiver out of the backfield.

PHI - WR DeSean Jackson idle Wednesday

Source: NBC Sports Philadelphia - Dave Zangaro

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson (abdomen) won't practice Wednesday, Oct. 23.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The team sure could use Jackson this week against the Bills...but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Jackson is still recovering, so don't expect him to do much if anything in practice this week.

GB - Allen Lazard leads WRs in snaps

          Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers WR Allen Lazard played 51 of 60 offensive snaps in Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders, which was the most among the team's receivers. He finished with three receptions for 42 yards.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lazard is a player we've been monitoring in crazy deep dynasty formats. With Davante Adams (toe) missing time, there has been a rotation at the receiver position that now includes plenty of Lazard. We'll see if he can continue to impress.

ATL - WR Calvin Ridley promoted to No. 2 role

          Source: AtlantaFalcons.com - Kelsey Conway

Atlanta Falcons WR Calvin Ridley was listed as the No. 2 receiver on the version of the Falcons' depth chart released following the trade of WR Mohamed Sanu Tuesday, Oct. 22.

          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ridley was already the No. 2 receiver as Sanu was primarily the slot receiver for the Falcons. Russell Gage takes over the slot duties for the Falcons now.

              Friday Update

KC - QB Patrick Mahomes works with second team Thursday

              Source: ESPN.com - Adam Teicher

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee) took part in individual drills Thursday, Oct. 24, taking snaps with the second-team offense.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Mahomes is still unlikely to play on Sunday night, but nothing is official yet. This does seem to be a sign that his absence will be short, assuming no setbacks in his recovery.

NO - QB Drew Brees remains limited

              Source: AZCardinals.com

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) was limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brees has a legitimate chance to play and will be a solid QB1 this week because of the matchup against Arizona if he does play, albeit with a little more risk.

DET - RB Ty Johnson better acclimated

Source: Detroit Free Press - Carlos Monarrez

Detroit Lions RB Ty Johnson said he is feeling 'pretty comfortable' as he assumes more of a workload in his rookie season. 'It's just that the game's starting to slow down a little bit,' Johnson told the Detroit Free Press. 'Because being a rookie it's all fast when you first get in and being able to slow things down mentally, what the defenses, are doing and having coaches and guys like Kerryon (Johnson) and J.D. (McKissic) in my ear talking about certain fronts or certain pressures or whatever block schemes we have for the run game. Just having those guys in my ear at all times has been a big help.'

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson should be the lead ball-carrier for the Lions going forward. We'll see how the rookie responds, and Fantasy GMs can plug him in as a RB3 or flex play. McKissic has always been an interesting player because of his quickness and change-of-pace ability. He's got 'what the heck' flex appeal for Fantasy GMs with a larger role.

KC - WR Sammy Watkins practices in full

              Source: Chiefs.com

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Watkins is on track to return this week but with Matt Moore starting and Watkins already missing a game he was active for this year, caution and leaving him on your bench is the best strategy this week.

NYJ - TE Chris Herndon stays limited

              Source: NewYorkJets.com

New York Jets TE Chris Herndon (hamstring) remained limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Herndon could return this week, although the team could wait until he can put in a full practice and err on the conservative side. If he is active, he'll be a streaming consideration against Jacksonville.

NO - TE Jared Cook misses another practice

              Source: AZCardinals.com

New Orleans Saints TE Jared Cook (ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Josh Hill is on track to get another start at tight end. He scored last week and faces a Cardinals defense that has been very generous to opposing tight ends this year.

LAC - WR Keenan Allen misses practice

              Source: Chargers.com

Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This is a new injury and worrisome. Allen's production was already tailing off after Hunter Henry came back. If he can't go this weekend, Mike Williams becomes a better play and Austin Ekeler could play an even more central role in the passing game.

NO - RB Alvin Kamara back to practice

              Source: AZCardinals.com

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (ankle/knee) returned to practice Thursday, Oct. 24, as a limited participant.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kamara is on track to return this week, although Latavius Murray could still have value after he played very well over the last two weeks.

              Source: AZCardinals.com

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk (ankle) remained limited in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kirk is no sure thing to play until he gets in a full practice. If his status doesn't change tomorrow, look for him to sit against New Orleans and Pharoh Cooper to get more time at inside receiver.

HOU - WR Will Fuller misses another practice

              Source: HoustonTexans.com

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller (hamstring) didn't practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Fuller will miss multiple weeks. Kenny Stills is a strong high ceiling WR3/Flex play this week and Keke Coutee gets into what the heck flex consideration.

LAR - RB Malcolm Brown to miss Week 8

              Source: ESPN.com - Lindsey Thiry

Los Angeles Rams RB Malcolm Brown (ankle) will not be able to play in the Week 8 game, according to head coach Sean McVay.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Darrell Henderson will get another chance to make some splash plays and earn more work, this week against the Bengals.

NYJ - WR Jamison Crowder limited Thursday

Source: New York Post - Brian Costello

New York Jets WR Jamison Crowder (knee) was added to the injury report and participated in a limited practice on Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Crowder has missed time with various leg injuries in the past, so this bears watching. Demaryius Thomas and Chris Herndon could get more work if Crowder is sidelined.

              Source: Steelers.com - Teresa Varley

Pittsburgh Steelers WR James Washington (shoulder) fully participated in practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington was heating up before his injury and he'll be playing with his college quarterback against a weak Dolphins secondary. He has some deep sleeper appeal.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Benny Snell's time as the backup is coming to a close for now. He ran strong against the Chargers, but Samuels is back in position to get more work if James Conner's injury woes continue.

NYJ - WR Robby Anderson available for trade?

Source: New York Daily News - Manish Mehta

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson can reportedly be had before the Oct. 29 trade deadline 'for the right price,' according to sources via the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Anderson would make sense for Arizona, Philadelphia, New Orleans, or Baltimore, or really any team that believes in him as a #1 and likes their quarterback and offense to unlock his value. He has some off-field issues to explain before securing a long term commitment. If the Jets don't want to sign Anderson and they can get more than a third round pick, a trade makes a lot of sense. Demaryius Thomas, Jamison Crowder, and Chris Herndon can pick up the slack if Anderson is traded.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Walker didn't last long last week and it's not looking like he'll be a reliable play this week, even if he is active. If he's inactive, Jonnu Smith will be available for streaming tight end teams.

ARI - RB David Johnson absent from practice Thursday

              Source: AZCardinals.com - Darren Urban

Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson (ankle, back) was not present during the portion of practice open to the media Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Johnson needs to practice tomorrow to play and if he doesn't, we have to wonder if this will be a multiweek absence considering that the team signed two running backs earlier this week. Chase Edmonds is the Cardinals back to play this week in any event after Johnson tapped out after one play last week. The matchup is tough this week in the Superdome.

Source: Bay Area News Group - Jerry McDonald

Oakland Raiders WR Tyrell Williams (foot) is participating in the team's padded practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is on track to return and in a good matchup against Houston. He might even face his teammate until earlier this week - Gareon Conley. Consider him a what the heck flex.

OAK - RB Josh Jacobs remains absent

Oakland Raiders RB Josh Jacobs (shoulder) was not spotted at the start of the team's practice Thursday, Oct. 24.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Jacobs is truly questionable, and Jalen Richard isn't 100% either. DeAndre Washington is looking like the Raiders back to pick up if you want a desperation play in case Jacobs is out.

CIN - WR A.J. Green to sit another week

              Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Josh Alper

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (ankle) will not play in Week 8 in London against the Los Angeles Rams, according to head coach Zac Taylor.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green won't be back until Week 10 at the earliest now, and the reality is that he probably needs a week or two of practice before being game ready. At some point, he might decide it's not worth to come back with free agency looming next year.

Howard is not doing much for Fantasy GMs....much to the chagrin of those who took a chance on him in their drafts. We'll see more Cameron Brate if Howard has to miss time with this hamstring injury.

              Source: ESPN.com - Mike Wells

Indianapolis Colts WR Devin Funchess (collarbone) is expected to return to practice next week, according to ESPN's Mike Wells.

              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts have found a player in Zach Pascal opposite of T.Y. Hilton. There's no need to rush Funchess back with the way Pascal has been playing. Funchess is currently on the Reserve/Injured list after suffering a broken collarbone earlier this year.

They should pay me more than that.

I’m sure mattress Mack would. Funny thing is we ran into him at game 1. Everyone was getting their picture taken with him so my newphew jumped in and got one.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes (knee, ankle) on Friday, Oct. 25, was ruled out of the team's Week 8 game against the Green Bay Packers. 'He just isn't ready,' head coach Andy Reid said of Mahomes.

Jacobs will be a game time decision at best. He has said he can play without practicing, but that would be giving the rookie a lot of deference. DeAndre Washington would be the best desperation play if Jacobs is out.

Updating a previous report, Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (ankle) returned to practice Friday, Oct. 25, after missing the previous two days, and head coach Dan Quinn said afterward that Ryan's Week 8 status will boil down to a game-time decision Sunday, Oct. 27. Ryan will be listed as questionable on the Week 8 injury report.

                          [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryan will be a boom/bust QB1 against Seattle if he can go and he will boost the prospects of the whole offense. The team has a bye in Week 9 if they are feeling conservative and want to get Ryan more rest.

He is at least playing in an early game, but after last week it will be tough to trust him in lineups. Chase Edmonds is the better Cardinals running back play this weekend.

San Francisco 49ers WR Emmanuel Sanders is going to play 'a lot' in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers, according to comments made by head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Sanders knows the offense and the 49ers have been lacking a wide receiver that they can consistently trust. Don't be surprised if his volume spikes despite being in a run-first offense.

Herndon is in line to return next week for a good matchup against the Dolphins. Don't drop him if only to see if Robby Anderson is traded, which would

Allen is a game time decision and has to be considered on the doubtful side of questionable. Even if he does go, his numbers have been lackluster lately so it's easy to err on the side of sitting him. Mike Williams, Hunter Henry, and Austin Ekeler all get a possible bump in targets if Allen sits, but Philip Rivers outlook takes a hit.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (thumb) will start Sunday, Oct. 27, against the Arizona Cardinals, sources told Dianna Russini and Ed Werder of ESPN Saturday, Oct. 26.

Brees is back in action before the team's Week 9 bye. The Cardinals defense is a pushover, so Brees should have no problem posting QB1 numbers or Fantasy GMs.

New Orleans Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater will be moved back to the bench Sunday, Oct. 27, as QB Drew Brees (thumb) was named the Week 8 starter against the Arizona Cardinals, a source told Dianna Russini and Ed Werder of ESPN Saturday, Oct. 26.

It's a great matchup against the Dolphins on Monday night, and Mason Rudolph is back at quarterback for the Steelers....but we can't recommend Smith-Schuster as anything more than a WR2 or even a flex play for Fantasy GMs in Week 8.

McDonald is a streaming option for Fantasy GMs in Week 8. Against the Dolphins on Monday night, we consider him a TE2 with upside.

OAK - TE Darren Waller tops in key metric

                                      Source: Pro Football Focus

Oakland Raiders TE Darren Waller leads all tight ends (minimum 110 routes run) with his average of 2.9 yards per route run this season.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Right on...Fantasy GMs don't need advanced data to know that Waller is playing at a high level. Waller is currently the No. 3 fantasy tight end and has shown no signs of slowing down with his production. The Raiders are looking for more WR help, but Waller should remain a big part of what they do offensively regardless of any player they could trade for at the WR position.

SF - Multiple teams had interest in WR Emmanuel Sanders

The Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints had interest in acquiring WR Emmanuel Sanders from the Denver Broncos before he was ultimately traded to the San Francisco 49ers.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Yes, but in the end it was the 49ers who got the deal done. Before he was dealt, there were plenty of rumblings about teams like the Eagles, Patriots and Vikings showing interest. Now, Sanders is with the 49ers as their lead receiver and he provides WR2 value for Fantasy GMs out there.

Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden believes RB Josh Jacobs (shoulder) will play in Week 8's game against the Houston Texans, assuming that he suffers no setbacks.

Jacobs has been nursing this shoulder injury but is expected to play. In this matchup against the Texans, we see Jacobs as a low-end RB2 or flex option for Fantasy GMs.

The Oakland Raiders are one of the team's interested in acquiring New York Jets WR Robby Anderson, according to The Athletic's Connor Hughes.

The Raiders have added Zay Jones via trade earlier this year and they might not be done adding talent to the WR position. The trade deadline is on Tuesday, and most expect Anderson to be moved (Eagles?) before then.

Washington Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins 'needs a little bit more work,' according to head coach Bill Callahan, and Callahan said the plan is for Haskins to continue to serve as the backup.

Everyone say it all together now "Haskins is not ready!" Yeah, we get it...and we see it. Haskins has talent but he's not ready to be a full-time starter in the NFL. Washington is atrocious but they won't turn things over to Haskins just yet. We expect he could get some starts near the end of the regular season.

Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8, and the Buccaneers are allowing a league-high 304.5 passing yards per game this season.

The Bucs defense isn't good against the pass. Tannehill isn't the greatest quarterback but he's proven to be an upgrade over Marcus Mariota.

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton was praised by head coach Zac Taylor for carrying the offense while the running game has struggled. 'He's done a good job keeping us afloat,' Taylor said. 'It has not been easy. We've rushed for what we've rushed for, so you have a quarterback that's going to stand back there, knowing he's going to face a fierce pass rush.'

Ah, the dreaded vote of confidence. The Bengals aren't winning and they aren't going anywhere in 2019. At some point, the team should want to take a look at rookie QB Ryan Finley. He's a big pocket passer with a strong arm. Finley could take over for Dalton as the starting quarterback at some point later in the year.

Cincinnati Bengals WR Alex Erickson posted six receptions for a team-high 97 yards on seven targets in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams in London.

Erickson remained relevant against a soft Rams pass defense, but AJ Green's impending return will short circuit his developing value.

NYG - RB Saquon Barkley productive in run, pass game

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley rushed for 64 yards on 19 carries against the Detroit Lions in Week 8. He also caught eight passes for 79 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Barkley didn't look affected by his ankle injury this week after coming up gimpy at times last week. He's back to being one of the most valuable players in fantasy football.

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones went 28-for-41 for 322 yards and four touchdowns against the Detroit Lions in Week 8.

Jones put the ball where Darius Slayton could win it in the air on two touchdowns and looked more than capable in his best game since his scintillating starting debut against the Bucs. He'll be a solid QB2/Superflex going forward, facing a rested Cowboys defense next week.

CIN - QB Andy Dalton goes over 300 yards

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton completed 32-of-52 passes for 329 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams in London.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dalton did everything he could to keep his team in the game, but he's not good enough to overcome the 2019 Bengals. One wonders when the team will turn to fourth-round pick Ryan Finley to see what they have in him. Dalton could get AJ Green back after the bye.

NO - Two touchdowns for RB Latavius Murray

New Orleans Saints RB Latavius Murray rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8. He also caught nine passes for 55 yards and one touchdown during the game.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Murray has been in beast mode while Alvin Kamara has been out, including a huge passing game role. Kamara should be back after the bye next week, but Murray deserves enough work each week to be a flex consideration going forward.

CHI - RB David Montgomery rolls for 135 yards, TD

Chicago Bears RB David Montgomery rushed 27 times for a career-high 135 yards and a touchdown in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers and he added four receptions for 12 yards on five targets.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Montgomery had a 55-yard run to key his big day and the Bears never went away from the run. He'll face a stiff Eagles run defense next week and will still be only a flex play.

ARI - Eight catches for WR Christian Kirk

Arizona Cardinals WR Christian Kirk caught eight passes for 79 yards against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. He was targeted 11 times during the game.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Kirk was the cornerstone of the passing game in his first contest back from an ankle injury. He is a volume WR3/Flex right now and cutting into Larry Fitzgerald's value, but will have a low ceiling against the 49ers on Thursday.
