LAC - Chargers stop contract talks with RB Melvin Gordon

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon has been told that the Chargers will not have any more contract extension talks with him until after the 2019 season, according to general manager Tom Telesco.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Gordon can either play on his 5.6 million dollar fifth-year option or not at all. This increases the chances of him playing as few games as possible for the team this year.

KC - RB LeSean McCoy reunites with Andy Reid in KC

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent RB LeSean McCoy (Bills) agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $4 million - including $3 million guaranteed - with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy should at least get enough touches to open the season to be a flex worthy play if not more, but the rest is up to him. Damien Williams is probably still the starter, but he won't have as big a share of the backfield if McCoy plays well. Darwin Thompson is more of a late round stash now.

IND - RB Jordan Wilkins back on the field

Source: The Herald Bulletin - George Bremer

Indianapolis Colts RB Jordan Wilkins (foot) was able to return to practice Sunday, Sept. 1.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Colts kept Wilkins and Jonathan Williams on the final roster. Wilkins was great last year in limited action and is the better choice as the #3 back, but this entire situation got less attractive when Andrew Luck retired.

CAR - WR Torrey Smith set free

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Carolina Panthers WR Torrey Smith was released Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Smith had already taken a pay cut, but that wasn't enough to keep him on the roster to open the season. He should get a call as a street free agent somewhere during the season after injuries thin some wide receiver groups.

JAX - RB Alfred Blue on IR

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Alfred Blue (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ryquell Armstead becomes the backup to Leonard Fournette, but remember that the team claimed good two-way back Devine Ozigbo when the Saints released him. This will be a backup situation to monitor considering Fournette's injury history.

JAX - Jacksonville claims four players

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Former Baltimore Ravens RB Tyler Ervin and TE Matthew Orzech were claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source. The Jaguars also claimed TE Seth DeValve from the Cleveland Browns and RB Devine Ozigbo from the New Orleans Saints.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Ozigbo was expected to make the Saints roster by some and was a favorite combine snub of others this offseason. He could be the backup and next in line for touches behind Leonard Fournette in short order and should be on your waiver wire watch list.

CIN - Cincy claims two skill players

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Washington Redskins RB Samaje Perine was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source. The team also claimed WR Pharoh Cooper from the Arizona Cardinals.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bengals had an opening after Rodney Anderson went down with another torn ACL, so they didn't have to look farther than yet another former college teammate of starting back Joe Mixon.

CLE - Cleveland adds TE Ricky Seals-Jones

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Arizona Cardinals TE Ricky Seals-Jones was claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Seals-Jones replaces Seth DeValve as the designated passing game weapon at tight end behind David Njoku and Demetrius Harris. DeValve ended up in Jacksonville, where there may be some opportunity at tight end.

WAS - Washington claims RB Wendell Smallwood

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Philadelphia Eagles RB Wendell Smallwood was claimed off waivers by the Washington Redskins Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Washington plays Philadelphia Week 1, so maybe Smallwood can give the defense some tips on slowing down the Eagles offense.

NYJ - Kaare Vedvik joins Jets roster

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Minnesota Vikings PK Kaare Vedvik was claimed off waivers by the New York Jets Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Vedvik was free after the Jets tried to trade for him. We'll see if it ends up being something they regret. Taylor Bertolet is out as the kicker

DET - J.D. McKissic joining Lions

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Former Seattle Seahawks RB J.D. McKissic was claimed off waivers by the Detroit Lions Sunday, Sept. 1, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McKissic could fill the Theo Riddick role and hurt Kerryon Johnson's ceiling in the passing game, but rookie Ty Johnson was
already a threat there, so if you like Kerryon in the third, stick with him.

DEN - RB Theo Riddick IR bound

    Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Darin Gantt

Denver Broncos RB Theo Riddick (shoulder) will be placed on the Reserve/Injured list and miss at least the first eight games of 2019 with a fractured shoulder, general manager John Elway said Saturday, Aug. 31.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

He won't be a threat to Phillip Lindsay or Royce Freeman's value until November. Riddick isn't worth carrying in any format without an injured reserve slot.

            Tuesday Update

LAC - RB Melvin Gordon unlikely to report anytime soon

            Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon has no intention to report for Week 1 as he and his representation sort through potential trade options during his holdout, according to a source. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports it is his understanding only a 'new development' would bring Gordon back into camp.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Deals get done at deadlines in the NFL. The deadline of the regular season beginning is coming up and there's no real end to this holdout in sight. We'll see if the approaching regular season spurs the two sides into action. Without Gordon, the Chargers would use Austin Ekeler as the starter with Justin Jackson backing him up.

IND - QB Jacoby Brissett receives extension

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

Indianapolis Colts QB Jacoby Brissett agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with the Colts Monday, Sept. 2, worth $30 million, according to a source. The deal includes $20 million in guaranteed money.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brissett is the starting quarterback of the Colts with the retirement of Andrew Luck. We'll see if the Colts improved offensive line and quality weapons help Brissett perform better as the starter than he did when he was the team's starter with Luck banged up in 2017.

CAR - QB Cam Newton unhindered at practice Monday

            Source: ESPN.com - David Newton

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) was not limited during the media portion of practice Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

General manager Marty Hurney told reporters afterward Newton is 'good to go' for Week 1 versus the Los Angeles Rams. Fantasy GMs can comfortably consider Newton a QB1 in 2019.

NE - WR Demaryius Thomas returns to Pats

            Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Free-agent WR Demaryius Thomas (Patriots) re-signed with the New England Patriots on a one-year deal Monday, Sept. 2. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Patriots let Thomas hit the open market after he dominated in the fourth preseason game, but there was always a good chance he would return. That happens in part because rookie first-round pick N'Keal Harry is on Injured Reserve with an ankle injury. Thomas will compete to be the No. 3 receiver for the Patriots behind Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman.

DAL - Mixed signals on progress with RB Ezekiel Elliott

Source: NFL Network - Jane Slater

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's contract talks continued through Sunday, Sept. 1, but a deal is still not close. A source said 'everything' was holding up the deal. Other sources seem much more optimistic.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives. Soap opera aside, this Elliott situation seems to change every other day. They're moving towards a deal, then next thing you know 'everything' is holding up the deal. With the regular season right around the corner, things are coming right down to the wire if Elliott is going to be able to play in Week 1. Most seem to think a deal done by Tuesday would be the latest for Elliott to play this week. Stay tuned.

DAL - WR Amari Cooper confident in health

Source: The Athletic - Jon Machota

Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper (foot) told The Athletic's Jon Machota that he was able to do a lot in his first practice back Monday, Sept. 2, and believes he is ready to play in Week 1 against the New York Giants.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Cowboys have monitored Cooper closely as he has dealt with this foot injury, and their plan was to have him ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Cooper also added he played through a foot injury during his rookie year that was worse and hurt when he cut on it, while this injury didn't cause him any pain Monday.

WAS - RB Derrius Guice likely to be most involved

Source: 106.7 The Fan - Grant Paulsen

Washington Redskins RB Derrius Guice will get more carries than Adrian Peterson, according to comments made by head coach Jay Gruden to reporters Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Guice has a ton of talent if he can stay healthy and play up to that natural potential. He's working in a RBBC with Peterson this year after missing his entire rookie season in 2018. The matchup against the Eagles in Week 1 is a tough one for Washington's ground game and their bad offensive line.

WAS - TE Jordan Reed still in concussion protocol

Source: NBC Sports Washington - JP Finlay

Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (concussion) did not practice Monday, Sept. 2, and head coach Jay Gruden said afterward that Reed remains in the concussion protocol 'so to speak.'

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reed may be missing Week 1 ...or more...with this concussion, the seventh known concussion of his career. We should see Vernon Davis as the lead tight end for Washington while Reed is out.

CIN - WR A.J. Green remains in walking boot

            Source: Bengals.com - Geoff Hobson

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green (ankle) has yet to remove his walking boot, according to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Green had ankle surgery about a month ago, but the Bengals have not put him on Injured Reserve. They must think he can come back before the halfway point of the season, and a return for Green in the first month of the season seems overly optimistic. Expect a ton of Tyler Boyd while Green is out.

IND - QB Brian Hoyer signs with Colts

Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Michael David Smith

Free-agent QB Brian Hoyer (Patriots) signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Hoyer gives the Colts a veteran backup behind Jacoby Brissett. Earlier this year, the NFL suspended Colts QB Chad Kelly two games for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

GB - TE Jimmy Graham a limited participant

            Source: ESPN.com - Rob Demovsky

Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham (finger) was limited during practice Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham has been dealing with this finger injury for most of the preseason. He's likely to play in the season opener on Thursday night against the Bears.

CHI - TE Trey Burton limited

Source: Chicago Tribune - Brad Biggs

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (groin) was limited during practice Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's going to be tough for Burton to play on Thursday night against the Packers. Watch the injury report as the week goes on, but expect Adam Shaheen to start in Week 1.

BAL - RB Kenneth Dixon injury update

            Source: ESPN.com - Jamison Hensley

Baltimore Ravens RB Kenneth Dixon (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list because of a fractured knee but will be released with an injury settlement.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Dixon flashed talent when he came out of Louisiana Tech in 2016 but injuries have derailed his career. It may take him some time to find a new team if anyone is willing to take a chance on the veteran who often seems to be banged up.

            BAL - Robert Griffin cleared

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Zrebiec

Baltimore Ravens QB Robert Griffin III (thumb) has been medically cleared to be available for Week 1, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Griffin is set to be the primary backup to Lamar Jackson. We won't see him on the field unless Jackson gets banged up.

DEN - Three officially on IR

            Source: DenverBroncos.com - Aric DiLalla

Denver Broncos QB Drew Lock (thumb), RB Theo Riddick (shoulder) and TE Jake Butt (knee) were officially placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Lock is the 2019 second-round pick who could be the future franchise quarterback of the Broncos. Riddick could be the team's leading pass-catching back when healthy. Butt has only played in three games during his two seasons with the Broncos and is still dealing with the knee injury that cost him most of the 2018 season.

BUF - No practice for TE Tyler Kroft

            Source: BuffaloBills.com - Chris Brown

Buffalo Bills TE Tyler Kroft (foot) did not participate in practice Monday, Sept. 2. Head coach Sean McDermott said the team hopes Kroft will be able to return during the early part of the season.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bills tight end position has been bit hard by the injury bug. We might see Tommy Sweeney as the top tight end for the Bills to open up the season.

MIN - Minnesota inks WR Josh Doctson

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Free-agent WR Josh Doctson (Redskins) signed a one-year undisclosed contract with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, Sept. 2.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Even though he found a new home rather quickly after being released by Washington, we don't think Doctson makes a huge impact with the Vikings. Doctson did play with Kirk Cousins in Washington, but he's buried on the depth chart behind guys like Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Chad Beebe and Olabasi Johnson.

SEA - WR Jaron Brown back with Seattle

Source: The Seattle Times - Bob Condotta

Free-agent WR Jaron Brown (Seahawks) signed an undisclosed contract to return to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday, Sept. 2. TE Ed Dickson (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a knee injury to open up a spot on the roster.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Brown was released by the team on Saturday but is back on Monday. He could work as a No. 2 receiver opposite of Tyler Lockett. We should see D.K. Metcalf worked into the mix as well.

NYJ - WR Robby Anderson making progress

            Source: ESPNNewYork.com - Rich Cimini

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson (calf) is 'trending towards playing' in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, according to head coach Adam Gase.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see if Anderson can make it back to practice at some point later in the week. Anderson is their top target at the wide receiver position and has at least flex appeal in Week 1 against the Bills.

NE - N'Keal Harry to IR

            Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New England Patriots WR N'Keal Harry (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Monday, Sept. 2, and he's expected to return this season.

            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We could see the 2019 first-round pick get back on the field in the middle of the season. He's a waiver wire speed dial guy, but only if something happens to players above him on the depth chart (Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, Demaryius Thomas)...and if he is healthy from the ankle injury he suffered in the first preseason game and couldn't recover fully from.

              Ezekiel Elliott Signs Extension

              Hi Folks,

It took a little longer than we expected, but it's finally done.

              ESPN's Todd Archer
reports this morning: "The Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott have agreed to a six-year extension, according to a source. The plan is for Elliott to be at practice Wednesday."

It's great news obviously for everyone who drafted Elliott. Clearly, Tony Pollard still has some value as a handcuff and a good back behind this Dallas line. But his opportunity as a potential lead back while Elliott held out is over.

Have a great rest of your Wednesday.

LAC - LAC aiming high for RB Melvin Gordon trade return

                Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Mike Florio

Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon should cost a first-round and a fifth-round draft pick in the eyes of the team, according to a league source.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We'll see what happens in this Gordon situation but he might be priced out of the range of some teams that could be interested. The source says the Chargers have told at least one team this is their asking price in trade talks.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott in shape to play

                Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is in shape to play Sunday if there is a contract done in time, his agent said Tuesday, Sept. 3. 'I think Zeke is showing he's committed by coming back to Dallas We didn't come here not to do a deal,' said agent Rocky Arceneaux.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

If Elliott signs Wednesday, then Fantasy GMs we'd expect to see him likely as a low-end RB1 (at least) in his first game back. It shouldn't take too long for Elliott to get back up to speed with his teammates.

CIN - RB Giovani Bernard signs extension

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard signed a two-year, $10.3 million extension Tuesday, Sept. 3. He received a raise to $5.9 million in 2019 and $11 million over two seasons. He receives a guaranteed $600,000 bonus in March.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bernard is now signed through the 2021 season. He's a quality backup to Joe Mixon and he could do more with a larger role if called upon. This is a good move for both sides. Projecting Bernard for around 40 catches in 2019 is fair.

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Tom Silverstein

Updating a previous story, Green Bay Packers TE Jace Sternberger (ankle) was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, sending him to the injured reserve Tuesday, Sept. 3.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sternberger is going to miss at least half the season. If he returns this year, the rookie will work behind Jimmy Graham. This injury stinks, but we still like Sternberger as a dynasty prospect.

Houston Texans WR Kenny Stills was listed as the backup to WR Will Fuller on the team's unofficial depth chart released Tuesday, Sept. 3.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stills could get some work as the team's No. 3 receiver if Keke Coutee (ankle) has to miss some time. Coutee is trending in the right direction and might be available for Week 1.

Coutee is super fast and dangerous with the rock...he just needs to stay healthy. Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Coutee (ankle) is "trending in the right direction" and could play Week 1.

MIA - WR Albert Wilson in line for slot duties

Source: The Miami Herald - Barry Jackson

Miamis Dolphins WRs Albert Wilson will be the team's primary slot receiver this season, according to receivers coach Karl Dorrell Tuesday, Sept. 3. Wilson 'is going to be a dynamic player than can play for us in the slot,' Dorrell said. 'Jakeem (Grant) is the same type of player. The previous staff did use (Wilson) primarily on the outside. We're going to use him both outside and inside. He's done enough in his development to do some things outside very effectively. He's such a dynamic runner with the ball in his hands that he'll play in the slot as well.'

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Wilson can get open on underneath routes and has the savvy to get open against tight coverage. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starting quarterback for now but we're not going to put a lot of chips on this Dolphins passing attack no matter who starts. Wilson could have some flex worthy weeks for Fantasy GMs but that's about it.

ATL - 'Reasonable to assume' WR Julio Jones gets deal this week

Source: The Athletic - Jeff Schultz

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones is expected to get a new contract done this week, according to team owner Arther Blank Tuesday, Sept. 3. 'I'd be surprised and disappointed if we didn't get it done this week,' Blank said. 'I think it's very reasonable to assume it will get done this week.'

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That sounds about right. The Falcons have shown no worries about getting a new contract done for their superstar receiver. It sounds like Blank will write a big check for Jones in the near future.

The rookie third-round pick from Texas A&M is a fine dynasty prospect to watch. He could return at some point around the middle of the season if the Packers need him to.

                [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Bears play on Thursday night to open up the NFL's 100th season. We don't think Burton will be ready by that time. Never say never, but it looks like Adam Shaheen could be the No. 1 tight end for Chicago in Week 1.

He was limited Wednesday but most feel the rookie is on track for the start of the regular season. We'll see if he can be a full participant on Thursday and Friday. Metcalf has flex appeal if he plays in Week 1 against the Bengals.

Newton is good to go for the season opener against the Rams. The Panthers have improved weapons around Newton with young, emerging wide receivers and a healthy veteran tight end in Greg Olsen. He's a QB1 for Fantasy GMs.

New York Giants TE Evan Engram is slated to play a massive role as the team's big-play receiver, and the team has been careful with him most of the summer.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

That's music to the ears of Fantasy GMs everywhere. Engram can be a top-5 fantasy tight end, especially with this larger role. Even if (when?) rookie Daniel Jones takes over as the starting quarterback, Engram should still be a huge part of the passing game.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Richardson is always a little banged up with something but he's good to go for the season opener against the Eagles. With Case Keenum at quarterback, we don't see Washington stretching the field that much with a deep threat like Richardson. He's a deep 'what the heck' flex in Week 1.

New York Jets RB Le'Veon Bell requested his role not be limited early in the season, according to head coach Adam Gase Wednesday, Sept. 4. 'I can't predict how many plays we're going to have. But I will say this: I spoke to him yesterday. He said, 'Don't hold back.' So he feels like he's ready to go. I think he's pretty excited to get out there,' said Gase.

Bell and the Jets are taking on the Bills in Week 1. He's playing football for the first time in what feels like forever. Having missed all of the 2018 season, we're excited to see what Bell looks like upon his return. He could post RB1 numbers on a weekly basis.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Jordan Howard was included in a proposed trade for Los Angeles Chargers RB Melvin Gordon. The two teams also would have swapped mid-round picks and the Chargers would have needed to eat salary. L.A. rejected the deal.

There's not much of a market for Gordon's services right now. The veteran back is now stuck in limbo with this holdout. We'll see if things pick up when injuries strike the RB position around the league.

Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham (finger) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 4, and is not on the injury report for Week 1. The team did not practice Wednesday, so this is an estimation.

                    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Graham is ready to play and if you waited on tight end, you might be starting the veteran. He was a low-end TE1 last year but Fantasy GMs are looking for him to get a couple of more touchdown grabs (at least) this year. Graham should be considered a low-end TE1 who may not provide much upside, especially this week against the Bears.

It's not about skill or connection when talking about Fuller...it all comes down to health. If Fuller is healthy he is going to produce like a WR2 with high upside...at least...if not like a WR1 for Fantasy GMs. No matter the matchup, Fuller has the speed to blow by defenders and takes advantage of coverage that is more (and rightfully) concerned with DeAndre Hopkins.

Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones (foot) answered questions from the media for about four minutes Thursday, Sept. 5. During the interview, Jones said, 'I don't know,' when asked if he was definitely playing (in Week 1) before backtracking a bit and saying 'you can go with that' when asked if he planned on playing.

Jones is always in our lineups when he's on the field, but this means we'll need to check back Sunday morning before setting our lineup. That includes if we have Matt Ryan or Mohamed Sanu too, as both would be greatly affected by Jones missing the opener.

DAL - RB Ezekiel Elliott on pitch count?

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott impressed head coach Jason Garrett in his return to practice, but Garrett said Thursday, Sept. 5, that it's 'too early' to say if Elliott will be on a pitch count Sunday, Sept. 8, in the season opener.

                                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

You're still starting him anyway as an RB1 for your fantasy team. Elliott may be limited but he could still be productive. Tony Pollard becomes more of a 'what the heck' flex with Elliott coming back.

Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) will not be on a 'pitch count' in Week 1 versus the Carolina Panthers, according to head coach Sean McVay.

McVay has never told us the truth about Gurley, so don't be shocked if he has less than typical volume for a #1 back. He's still worth starting as he's as healthy as he'll be all year.

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (hamstring) was reportedly spotted at practice Thursday, Sept. 5. Diggs did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Diggs has always underperformed when he's on the injury report, so this could be a bad sign for him and good for Adam Thielen's prospects this week.

Seattle Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf (knee) deemed himself 100 percent ahead of his team's Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. 'I am. I'm 100 percent. Metcalf is still a fringe play for Week 1 with the Seahawks heavily favored and likely to run a lot vs. Cincinnati, but it will be exciting to see how he looks on an NFL field and he could be one of the Week 1 sensations if he gets free deep.

Thomas might be eased back into the lineup with a hamstring injury since he's coming back from an achilles tear. He's worth a roster spot in deep leagues, but looks like he'll be no higher than the third target in this passing game without an injury to Julian Edelman or Josh Gordon.

Coutee is looking like he could play in Week 1, but we don't know how effective he will be or how much he will play. Leave him on the bench for this week and hope that he goes off outside of your lineup. Kenny Stills would be a viable WR3/FLex if Coutee can't go Monday night.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) has reportedly shown the ability to move around well in practice, leading head coach Ron Rivera to believe Newton will be able to do the things 'he has normally done' in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Baltimore Ravens WR Marquise Brown (foot) fully participated in practice Thursday, Sept. 5.

Brown is a risky play, but he could benefit from facing a corner other than Xavien Howard. He's only a very deep league play, but this is enough to make him definitely worth a roster spot in longer bench leagues to see what Week 1 reveals for the first rounder in the revitalized Ravens passing game.

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers could use a pass-first approach in the offense in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts. The Chargers dropped back to pass on 62.4 percent of the plays in the four games RB Melvin Gordon missed last season with an injury as opposed to 58.3 percent when he was healthy.

Rivers could be busy getting out of the way of pass-rushers all year long. The Chargers offensive line is below average and without left tackle Russell Okung, Rivers may be under constant pressure.

Martin should get another shot somewhere in the league once injuries hit at the position. In 2018, Martin had 839 yards from scrimmage (723 rushing, 116 receiving) with four touchdowns as a fill in once Marshawn Lynch went down. He'll land on his feet somewhere, but who knows when or where that will be.

San Francisco 49ers WR Dante Pettis is listed as a No. 1 receiver on the team's unofficial depth chart heading into Week 1, starting opposite WR Marquise Goodwin.

Pettis has the speed to beat a defense deep. We'll see if he can show more savvy as a route-runner on underneath routes. We like Pettis in dynasty formats, but he's nothing but a super deep bench stash in most re-draft leagues...or just leave him on the waiver wire and watch to see if the 49ers passing game can be better than expected.

Miami Dolphins RBs Kenyan Drake and Kalen Ballage will be involved in the offense in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, according to running backs coach Eric Studesville. However, head coach Brian Flores seemed to indicate Wednesday, Sept. 4 that Drake would see a heavier workload.

                                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Drake is going to lead the way but Ballage could get some work in this RBBC. It sounds like Drake might get a 70 percent split provided he could stay healthy. That makes Ballage more of a bench stash or waiver wire speed dial back. If you play in a deeper league, then perhaps Ballage is a super deep 'what the heck' flex but that's about it until he gets a larger role.

Drake is the lead back and Kalen Ballage is going to serve as his backup. This is a 180 from the direction things were heading just a couple of weeks ago. Things change quickly around here in the NFL, but so long as Drake is healthy he could be their top back. That makes him a low-end RB2 or flex play on a weekly basis.

Antonio Brown will play per Jon Gruden.

                                          Antonio Brown Released

                                          Hi Folks,

The Drama continues. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports: "The #Raiders have released WR Antonio Brown. Wow."

                                          I see two questions here.

First: What's this mean for Oakland?

A few days ago, our Jason Wood had some thoughts on if Brown were to be suspended. I've updated them now that he's been released. Here's how we see this affecting the Raiders.

                                          • Tyrell Williams gets a bump on higher target share
                                          • Hunter Renfrow should see a bump but we're less excited about him
                                          • J.J. Nelson would likely start outside and makes an interesting GPP flier (but probably isn't a good idea in Cash DFS or most season long leagues)
                                          • We weren't too excited about Derek Carr already. This makes it worse.
                                          • Josh Jacobs will get all the work he can handle, but Oakland's chances of red-zone trips takes a hit so Jacobs upside is likely limited a bit
                                          • See if TE Darren Waller is on waivers, or if you already have him, strongly consider starting him.

To me, grabbing TE Darren Waller is the most actionable item there. Our Phil Alexander reminded me Carr leaned heavily on his TE last year in the absence of a true WR1.

And to see exactly where every WR ranks this week, Footballguys Premium Subscribers can see here how we're projecting every player for Week 1 down to the last yard.

Second question: What do you do if you currently have Brown on your roster?

I asked the question on Twitter
after the news: "With latest news of release buzz, where do you value Brown RIGHT NOW among WRs?"

Over 50% of the voters ranked Brown as a WR45 or worse. Many people claim he's got next to no value right now.

If that's how your league is feeling, I'd recommend just holding onto him for now. The one thing I feel like we know for sure with Antonio Brown is it's tough to know anything for sure with Antonio Brown. If his value is rock bottom, I'd hang on and just see what happens.

Talking with our Sigmund Bloom this morning, we both agree we wouldn't trade Brown for anything less than a player that would improve your starting lineup. And my guess is there aren't many trade partners in your league willing to offer a player of that value. So sit tight. In the course of three days we've gone from Brown looking good to Brown likely missing Week 1 to Brown looking great to Brown being released. No telling what might happen over the next month.

Now finish setting those lineups as we've got a big day tomorrow.

                                          Have a great Saturday.

Cleveland Browns WR Odell Beckham Jr. (hip) was a full participant in practice Friday, Sept. 6, for the second straight day, and head coach Freddie Kitchens reiterated his statement from earlier in the week that Beckham is 'ready to go' for Week 1.

Beckham might have been overstating the severity of his injury earlier in the week. He'll be good for Week 1 lineups.

There's a bug going around the Bucs locker room but Evans should be ready for Sunday. He's a WR1 all day.

New England Patriots WR Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

Thomas is more of a 'what the heck' flex if he does play against the Steelers on Sunday night. The Patriots have Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon to lead the way at the WR position.

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson (calf) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is listed as questionable for Week 1.

Anderson is a bit banged up but that's not our biggest concern with him this week. The larger concern is that he's going up against Bills CB Tre'Davious White and that could limit what Anderson does in Week 1. He's a WR3 or flex play for Fantasy GMs this week.

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

The Bengals need Ross to stay healthy and produce, especially while A.J. Green continues to miss time with his ankle injury. Tyler Boyd is their lead wide receiver and Ross is more of a crazy 'what the heck' flex in Week 1 against Seattle.

That was the plan for the Cowboys all along. Cooper missed time in training camp and the preseason with the idea that he would be good to go in the season opener. He is, so start him as a high-end WR2 against the Giants.

No big deal here. The team listed Foles on the injury report with this oblique issue but it was never considered a major issue. He'll play against the Chiefs on Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (biceps) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 6, and is not on the injury report for Week 1.

This is a minor injury. Start Jeffery as you normally would in Week 1. We think he's a low-end WR2 against Washington in the season opener.

The Dolphins need playmakers to emerge on offense in the passing game, and Wilson could be one of those guys. Wilson has deep flex appeal in PPR leagues as the Dolphins take on the Ravens in week 1.

Updating a previous report, Baltimore Ravens WR Marquise Brown (foot) is officially listed as questionable for Week 1.

We're excited about Brown from a dynasty perspective. In re-draft leagues he's a bench player with upside or on your waiver wire. Keep an eye on him in case he blows up as a favorite target of QB Lamar Jackson.

Minnesota Vikings WR Stefon Diggs (hamstring) is listed as questionable for the team's Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Asked if he thinks Diggs will be able to play, head coach Mike Zimmer said 'we'll see' Friday, Sept. 6.

Diggs is basically a game time decision, which means err on the side of benching him. He doesn't have a good track record of play in games when he was on the injury report. Adam Thielen becomes a strong DFS play with this news.

Hill's offseason has been quite the journey to end up at life-changing money. This is not good for the dynasty value of Mecole Hardman, but at least it means Hill will still be there drawing coverage as Hardman develops.

Things change pretty quickly around here. A mere 24 hours ago, Brown was with the Raiders and looking to play on Monday night against the Broncos. Now, Brown has been released by the Raiders and promptly picked up by the Patriots. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the deal is $9 million with the chance to earn up to $15 million on a one-year deal. Brown is not eligible to play on Sunday night against the Steelers, but he should be ready for Week 2 against the Dolphins.

Oakland Raiders WR Tyrell Williams is now the team's de facto No. 1 wide receiver with the release Saturday, Sept. 7, of fellow WR Antonio Brown.

Williams gets a bump in expectations as the Raiders No. 1 receiver. Fantasy GMs should consider him a WR3 option in 2019 with this enhanced role. Behind Williams, guys like J.J. Nelson, Ryan Grant and rookie Hunter Renfrow will compete for snaps, targets and touches.

Nelson is going to be used more since Antonio Brown was released. This ankle injury limited him on Saturday, but the Raiders don't play until Monday night against the Broncos. Nelson's speed will be utilized to stretch the defense, but he's best left on the waiver wire for now in most leagues.

We'll see if Coutee can actually suit up against the Saints. If he does play, consider him just a deep 'what the heck' flex in Week 1. DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller should get most of the work. We love Coutee's talent but he's got to stay healthy in order to play up to that potential.

Multiple New York Giants officials have said that QB Eli Manning will remain the starter as long as the team is in the playoff race.

That may not be that long. The Giants have to get off to a winning start and stay on that track if Manning is going to stay the starter. We just don't see that happening for them, especially with their current roster construct and the division they play in. Rookie first-round pick Daniel Jones should be starting around the midway point of the season if not sooner.

We could see that. Projecting him for 80-plus catches is fair and Kamara should get as much work as a runner and receiver out of the backfield that he can possibly handle. He's a no-brainer starter every week.

He didn't do much as a runner, and we'll be excited to see if Jackson continues to shine as a passer going forward. We love what he did on Sunday but everyone needs to acknowledge just how awful the Dolphins defense is going to be in 2019.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins caught nine passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.

Watkins is healthy and the primary receiver for the Chiefs with Tyreek Hill banged up. The Chiefs offense makes it look easy out there and Watkins clearly has WR1 upside each week in this No. 1 role.

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles (clavicle) suffered a broken left clavicle during the Week 1 game.

It's his non-throwing shoulder but Foles is going to miss some time. Rookie Gardner Minshew came in and played well for the Jaguars but they didn't have enough firepower to beat the Chiefs. We'll see Foles miss perhaps as much as half the regular season as the usual timetable for this sort of injury is 6-8 weeks. Expect Jacksonville to try and find a veteran backup but Minshew will start the next game.

Chark has the big-play speed to get by defenders in a hurry. He also showed great concentration on his touchdown grab. With Gardner Minshew the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, we'll see if Chark can continue to make plays for the rookie quarterback.

Chubb is the leader of their rushing attack, but Fantasy GMs are a little bent that he didn't get the rushing touchdown that went to Dontrell Hilliard. It was a hard-fought game against a tough Titans defense, and Chubb will get plenty of time to score in following weeks.

Mayfield was under pressure all day in the game against the Titans. He was rattled, banged up and harassed most of the game. The Browns scored a touchdown on their opening drive then it all seemed to be downhill after that.

Anderson was working through a calf injury all week in practice. Add in the tough matchup against the Bills secondary and it leads to this disappointing production.

Brown's deep speed goes well with Josh Allen's big arm. His touchdown grab was on a stop route where Brown's speed had the defender worried about a big play. Instead, Brown stopped short to catch the ball than ran it into the end zone.

Minshew threw the ball all over the field in one year starting at Washington State last year and he looked comfortable against the Chiefs on Sunday.
