Awesome news today out of the NHL. Looking forward to seeing this 24 team tourney seems like the NHL came up with a winner of an idea to save the season.

The NHL has advised its teams to prepare for a roster of 28 players and an unlimited amount of goaltenders for training camp and the playoffs if it can return this summer.
Several general managers on Wednesday said they were told that would be the anticipated roster limit. Each team is limited to 50 personnel of any kind in one of the two cities that would host games.
The league says training camp isn't expected to begin before early July. If the NHL goes ahead with its 24-team playoff format, games could begin in late July or early August.

The NHL's Vancouver Canucks are considering moving training camp to the United States because of Canada's 14-day mandatory quarantine requirement for those arriving in the country.
Canucks general manager Jim Benning says the team is still in the early stages of that possibility. He said he has talked to colleagues with other Canadian teams about the quarantine regulation and how it might put them at a competitive disadvantage.

NHL players told today training camps won’t start until after July 10th

            ====

Washington's Alex Ovechkin and Boston's David Pastrnak share the Maurice ''Rocket'' Richard Trophy as the top-goal scorer after tying with 48. Although Ovechkin was stopped short of a ninth 50-goal season, his ninth goal-scoring title extends his NHL record.
Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl won his first Art Ross Trophy for leading the league with 110 points, which he accomplished in 71 games. Oilers general manager Ken Holland praised Draisaitl for producing at that clip playing with and apart from captain Connor McDavid.
''It's a credit to his commitment, his passion, the hard work he's put in, the determination over the last three, four, five seasons,'' Holland said. ''He's the player that has the most points in the league and he's a 24-year-old player. He continues to take steps forward in his career. A tremendous accomplishment.''
Along with Pastrnak's individual award, the Boston Bruins get the Presidents' Trophy for leading the league standings with 100 points and goaltenders Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halak earn the William M. Jennings Trophy for allowing the fewest goals.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker says the state's five professional sports teams - the Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, New England Patriots and Revolution - can resume practicing at their respective facilities on June 6.
But Baker made clear the reopening of those facilities must be done in accordance with the health and safety rules that each of the leagues are developing.

It is part of the reason the Columbus captain supports NHL players undergoing daily testing if the season resumes.
“Testing is a must because it’s the only way you’re going to know and feel confident every time you step on the ice that everyone is in the same boat as you and you can play the game to the best of your ability,” Foligno said.

also has a comprehensive COVID-19 testing strategy. There are screening protocols in place for voluntary workouts and training camp in the hands of individual teams. Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly also said the NHL plans to test all players every day when games start happening.
“We will have a rigorous daily testing protocol where players are tested every evening and those results are obtained before they would leave their hotel rooms the next morning, so we’ll know if we have a positive test and whether the player has to self-quarantine himself as a result of that positive test,” Daly said. “It’s expensive, but we think it’s really a foundational element of what we’re trying to accomplish.”
Each test costs approximately $125, the league says, and Commissioner Gary Bettman estimated 25,000-35,000 will be needed to get through the playoffs - a price tag, he concedes, of “millions of dollars.” But
to get back to work, and regular testing is something players insisted on.

Curran, SHL MVP, signs two-year contract with Ducks

30-year-old also was Defenseman of the Year in Swedish Hockey League

                                          by NHL.com @NHLdotcom June 1, 2020

Kodie Curran signed a two-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The contract runs through the 2021-22 NHL season.
The 30-year-old defenseman was named MVP of the Swedish Hockey League this season, when he led defensemen and was second in the league with 37 assists and 49 points.
In two seasons with Rogle BK, the Calgary native had 86 points (24 goals, 62 assists) and a plus-13 rating. He has not played in North America since 2015-16, when he had four assists in 18 games for Hartford of the American Hockey League and 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 45 games for Greenville of the ECHL.
Anaheim's season is over after it finished 13th in the Western Conference in points percentage (.472; 29-33-9), failing to make the Qualifying Round announced by the NHL on May 26 in its Return to Play Plan. The top four teams in the Eastern and Western conferences will play in a Seeding Round Robin in the 24-team format.

The Ilitch companies - a group that includes the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings, along with Little Caesars and other companies - has opened a facility in the Detroit area to produce protective masks.
Employees from across the organization are helping with the effort, which will try to produce about 60,000 masks per day.

“We want to see great hockey played,” Toronto captain John Tavares said. “It’s not an exact science. It’s something we’ve never dealt with before, and we want to make the best and most conscious decision we possibly can to obviously make sure not only guys stay safe, but that the quality of hockey is extremely high.”
Unlike basketball, where one player can dominate a game and carry a team, hockey is predicated on players being in sync, knowing where teammates are - and will be going next - for tape-to-tape passes. Timing as a unit is an essential ingredient to success, and it's that timing that could be missing early because of so much time off the ice.
With the exception of a handful of players who were rehabbing injuries, living in Sweden or somehow able to find an open rink, most haven’t skated since the

Stanley Cup Playoffs to be best-of-7 following Qualifying Round

Seeding format, round-robin tiebreakers also announced

All series in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs will be best-of-7 and will be set based on seeding, the NHL announced Thursday.

When the NHL on May 26 announced its Return to Play Plan, which involves 24 teams in competition for the Stanley Cup, it said the length of the first-round and second-round series would be determined.
"Everybody is used to a best-of-7," Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang told The Associated Press. "You know how it's structured. You know how it feels if you lose the first two or you win the first two. You kind of know all the scenarios that can go through a best-of-7."
The tournament will begin with a 16-team, eight-series Qualifying Round (best-of-5) and a Seeding Round Robin among the top four teams in each conference to determine seeds for the playoffs.

In each round of the playoffs, the highest remaining seed in each conference will play the lowest remaining seed in that conference, the second-highest remaining seed will play the second-lowest remaining seed, and so forth. It will not be predetermined by a set bracket, the format that had been used since 2013-14.
Ties during the round-robin will be broken by regular-season points percentage. The seeding order for these top four teams will remain the same throughout the playoffs.
In the qualifying round, the higher-seeded team will be designated as the home team in Games 1, 2 and 5. The lower-seeded team will be designated as the home team in Games 3 and 4.
During the first round, second round and conference finals, the higher-seeded team will be designated as the home team in Games 1, 2, 5 and 7. The lower-seeded team will be designated as the home team in Games 3, 4 and 6.
In the Stanley Cup Final, the team with the higher regular-season points percentage will be designated as the home team in Games 1, 2, 5 and 7. The team with the lower regular-season points percentage will be designated as the home team in Games 3, 4 and 6.
"Any team that is going to win five rounds, four rounds of best-of-7 ... I think it will be a very worthy Stanley Cup champion and they'll be as worthy as any team or players that won it before them," Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares told the AP.
The NHL paused the regular season March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus and said the remaining 189 games would not be completed. The 12 qualifying teams from the Eastern and Western conferences were determined by points percentage as of that date. Seven teams did not qualify.
The qualifying round and round-robin will be held at two hub cities to be identified, one for the 12 participating Eastern Conference teams and one for the 12 Western Conference teams, and begin at a date to be determined.
In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers each will have a bye and play each other once in the round-robin to determine the order of the top four seeds for the first round of the playoffs.
The four Eastern Conference Qualifying Round series will be the Penguins against the Montreal Canadiens, the Carolina Hurricanes against the New York Rangers, the New York Islanders against the Florida Panthers, and the Maple Leafs against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In the Western Conference, the St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars each will have a bye and play in the round-robin to determine their seeding order.
The four Western Conference Qualifying Round series will be the Edmonton Oilers against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Nashville Predators against the Arizona Coyotes, the Vancouver Canucks against the Minnesota Wild, and the Calgary Flames against the Winnipeg Jets.

Going to have to test them daily .
