NFL Player News - Pro Bowl Week
NE - Gronkowski hopes to be ready for Super Bowl

Source: Boston Herald - Karen Guregian

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski (concussion) has entered the league's mandated concussion protocol, but there is optimism he'll be ready to return for Super Bowl LII against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 4.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Stay tuned. The extra week before the big game will be helpful.

JAX - QB Blake Bortles falls short of Super Bowl

    Source: The Associated Press

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles completed 23-of-36 passes for 293 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 21.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Bortles was brilliant early, but couldn't find enough plays in the fourth quarter to put the game away or come back late once the Patriots recaptured the lead. The Jaguars will have a decision to make about whether to pay Bortles like a starter in an improved, but still uneven at times fourth season. Chances are he'll start for them next season.

OAK - Oakland talked with Kevin Sumlin

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

The Oakland Raiders interviewed former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin for their offensive coordinator position before they decided to hire Greg Olson as their offensive coordinator, according to a source.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Sumlin has since been hired as the head coach at University of Arizona. He would have been a fresh mind for Derek Carr, but instead the team went with a long time NFL offensive coordinator who was actually in the same position with the Raiders as recently as 2014.

NYG - GM wants QB Eli Manning to return

    Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman reaffirmed his desire for QB Eli Manning to return to the team next season during a meeting with him earlier this month, according to sources. Gettleman also told Manning that the team will continue to scout the quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL Draft and compare them to QB Davis Webb.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Giants have the #2 pick in a class that has as many as four or even five first-round graded quarterbacks. Manning could return, but he should be a bridge to the team's first-round pick.

CLE - Cleveland talking with Todd Haley

    Source: ESPN - Chris Mortensen

The Cleveland Browns are talking with former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley about their offensive coordinator position, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Haley has had success piloting both run and pass first offenses and would be a good choice to maximize the pieces the Browns have amassed, with the addition of a hand-picked quarterback this year. The wild card would be how his personality would fit with Hue Jackson, because Jackson is also an offensive coach.

ARI - Jim Caldwell could be OC candidate

    Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

New England Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores would target former Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell as his offensive coordinator if he is hired by the Arizona Cardinals as their new head coach, according to sources.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Caldwell had an amazing run as an offensive coordinator in Baltimore with Joe Flacco that led to a Super Bowl win in his last stint with that title. If Carson Palmer returns for 2018, Caldwell would have a vertical passing quarterback to fit the philosophy that worked during that run, but if Palmer doesn't return, he would have an uphill battle to have success.

MIN - Minnesota could interview Ben McAdoo

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Minnesota Vikings are expected to consider former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo for their soon-to-be vacant offensive coordinator position. He has also received interest from several other teams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McAdoo wasn't a smashing success with the Giants as an offensive coordinator or head coach, but he is a known quantity, which appeals to some.

MIN - Minnesota could interview Mike McCoy

Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport

The Minnesota Vikings are expected to consider former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for their soon-to-be vacant offensive coordinator position. He has also received interest from several other teams.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McCoy has had a mixed record lately, overseeing a typically underachieving Chargers team as the head coach and a very disappointing Broncos offense this year. He did do good things with Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow in Denver before leaving to coach the Chargers, and would have an offense in Minnesota that won't need much in the way of adjusting, other than the question of who their starting quarterback will be next season.

WAS - Former GM critical of QB Kirk Cousins

    Source: NFL.com - Jeremy Bergman

Washington Redskins QB Kirk Cousins isn't a 'special' player, according to former general manager Scot McCloughan. 'You just need to have some talent around him because you don't want him to be throwing the ball 35 to 40 times to win the game,' McCloughan said.

    [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Cousins isn't special in the same way Drew Brees or Tom Brady is, but he is still one of the 12-15 best quarterbacks in the league by any measure, which means he'll be one of the highest paid players in the game and the centerpiece of a franchise. Whether he's a fantasy QB1 in 2018 will depend on his supporting cast, which is the gist of McCloughan's point.

Bortles had that pass. Just a great play by NE cornerback. Maybe if he put a bit more air under it

If Gronk does not play I got to give the advantage to the Eagles. Their D looked pretty good. Although could be different in a dome

TEN - Three Titans coaches let go

                  Source: ESPN.com - Paul Kuharsky

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie, linebackers coach Lou Spanos and special teams coach Steve Hoffman were fired Monday, Jan. 22.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Titans are cleaning house on both sides of the ball. New head coach Mike Vrabel is going to build his staff in his image.

NYG - Pat Shurmur hired by Giants

                  Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was officially been hired as the new head coach of the New York Giants Monday, Jan. 22.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

This has been the direction the team was leaning for quite some time. Shurmur ran a great offense with the Vikings, working through quarterback issues and getting the most out of Case Keenum. We'll see what he can do with Eli Manning and whatever young quarterback the Giants draft this year (Josh Rosen, etc).

JAX - QB Blake Bortles wants to stay

                  Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles said he would be 'thrilled' to remain with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The fourth-year quarterback will be an impending free agent in 2019.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The Jaguars didn't pick up his fifth-year option last year, and that's why Bortles is set to hit the open market. The team played at an incredibly high level this year but in crunch time against the Patriots, Bortles couldn't find a way to get it done. We'll see if they go to a guy like Alex Smith via trade or Kirk Cousins via free agency this offseason.

MIN - RB Jerick McKinnon wants to be featured back

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Chris Hine

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent RB Jerick McKinnon said he would like to be a featured back for a team next season.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

McKinnon proved this year that he could handle a larger workload. He's more than a change-of-pace back but no matter where he goes there will likely be a split in touches. That's the nature of the game today, and even with teams that have great RBs (Saints, Falcons) there is a dual responsibility by two quality backs. It's a great RB class in the 2018 NFL draft, so McKinnon may not have the hottest market.

MIN - QB Case Keenum unsure of team's interest

                  Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Case Keenum said he has not received any indication from the Vikings on if they want to re-sign him this offseason.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

The word before the NFC Championship Game was that the Vikings were going to franchise tag Keenum and try to keep Teddy Bridgewater as well. Both are set to be unrestricted free agents (so is Sam Bradford) at this time. With Pat Shurmur moving on to be the head coach of the Giants, it would be interesting to see if he wanted to take Keenum with him.

MIN - RB Dalvin Cook making progress

                  Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook (knee) said he is able to do some jogging but does not have a timetable for when he will return to football activities.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

There is no timetable, but Cook should be ready to go in training camp. Cook may not be ready at the start of training camp, but without setbacks he could be ready late in camp to get ramped up before the start of the regular season. He's an RB1 for fantasy owners when healthy. We'll be monitoring his progress closely this offseason.

MIN - QB Teddy Bridgewater believes he can start

                  Source: ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Teddy Bridgewater said he views himself as a starting quarterback next season but is not sure if it will be with the Vikings.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Bridgewater can start, but who knows where it would be. He's a smart and accurate quarterback who had his career thrown off path by a major knee injury. Set to hit the open market, Bridgewater is an interesting option for a team looking to give him a second chance.

IND - Josh McDaniels sought for second Colts meeting

Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has been requested for a second interview for the Indianapolis Colts' head coaching vacancy.

                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

It's lining up for McDaniels to be the next head coach of the Colts. If Andrew Luck is healthy, the Colts can get back in contention for the AFC South. It's a much tougher division now, so the Colts have a lot of work in front of them no matter who is the head coach.

PHI - Rib injury for QB Nick Foles

                  Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (ribs) had precautionary X-rays on his ribs following the NFC Championship game, according to a team source, but the injury isn't considered serious.
                  [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
Foles is going to have some time to heal before the Super Bowl. Early reports indicate Foles is going to be fine, and we'll have an update when practice happens next week.

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski's (concussion) official status will be unclear for a couple more days, but there is some optimism regarding his availability for the Super Bowl, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (hand) mentioned he was getting the 12 stitches on his hand removed in the coming days. 'And at that point, again, because I was fortunate not to tear any ligaments or anything like that - there was no broken bones - that was obviously the best news I could ever hear based on what you thought it could be,' he said. 'It ended up being a lot of good luck after, I'd say, a pretty unlucky injury. It turned out to be a lot good luck it wasn't more serious than it was.'

Source: WGR Sports Radio 550 - Joe Buscaglia

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor's future with the team was not addressed Tuesday, Jan. 23, as head coach Sean McDermott declined to comment on the topic. McDermott simply said the coaching staff will continue to evaluate.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

We highly doubt the Bills will keep Taylor on the team in 2018. Expect the team to try and trade Taylor if they can. He's got a cap number of $18 million in 2018, and there is $8.6 million in dead money.

MIA - QB Matt Moore likely done in Miami

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent QB Matt Moore is not expected to be re-signed as he would like to explore his options to see if he'll be a better fit in another city, according to a source. Moore has been in Miami since 2011.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Miami will get Ryan Tannehill back from the knee injury that cost him the 2017 season. Behind him might be a young quarterback they take in this year's draft. If they need a better backup they can trust, perhaps the Dolphins would get one of the numerous "Brian Hoyer-like" reserve QBs out there.

MIN - Mike Zimmer not sold on QB Case Keenum?

Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune - Andrew Krammer

Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Case Keenum's future with the Vikings is in limbo. Head coach Mike Zimmer said the Vikings will go through the process of determining who their starting quarterback will be next season. Keenum and fellow QBs Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford are all in the running.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Reports before the NFC Championship Game indicated the Vikings were going to franchise tag Keenum and also try to keep Bridgewater around. Now, after losing in that game, things don't seem as certain for Keenum...even Peter King is speculating that Keenum will be the Broncos starter in Week 1 of the 2018 season. Stay tuned, as Keenum would have a strong price tag if available in this quarterback desperate league.

GB - RB Jamaal Williams wants to be more explosive

                            Source: ProFootballTalk.com - Charean Williams

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams is focusing on improving his explosiveness this offseason. Williams wants to have quicker feet, more speed and to make sure his knees are up. He added that he'll be working on his lateral movements and speed in order to make sure his knees are up and that his lower body is stronger.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Williams is a big back, and he does a good job of keeping his feet after contact...but nobody is calling him an explosive player. That could change as he reshapes his body and his preparation for the league. Even with Ty Montgomery splitting time in the backfield (for one more year), Williams is a dynasty asset we love.

ARI - WR Larry Fitzgerald undecided on retirement

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has still not decided as to whether or not he will retire this offseason, according to new head coach Steve Wilks.

The future Hall of Fame receiver wanted to see who the Cardinals hired as head coach before deciding on his future in the league. Fitzgerald just completed his 14th season in the NFL and will turn 35 years old before the 2018 regular season begins. The Cardinals now have their coach, but they still are uncertain on who their quarterback will be.

OAK - QB Derek Carr was bothered by back

                            Source: CSNBayArea.com - Scott Bair

Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr (back) admitted that a back injury suffered in Week 4 did impact his play throughout the course of the season. 'Injuries will never be something I talk about, especially during the season, but since it's after the season, the [back issue] was one of those things that was there,' Carr said.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Things start to make more sense after the season when this type of information comes out. Carr just didn't look like himself in 2017. Some felt it was because Bill Musgrave was not retained as offensive coordinator but this report indicates it might have had more to do with his health. The fourth-year quarterback suffered three transverse process fractures and said he wanted to deal with the injury instead of using it as an excuse.

Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph (foot) has been diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain, but he is optimistic he will be ready to participate during the NFL Combine in late February.

Rudolph is walking around the Senior Bowl in a walking boot. He's not participating in practices, but he's there for the interview process before the game. Rudolph put up great numbers at Oklahoma State and is seen as a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The Combine will be big for him, partly because he missed the Senior Bowl but mostly because of the medical checks that will be done.

DAL - WR Dez Bryant's antics a distraction

Source: Fort Worth Star-Telegram - Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant's antics on the sideline are a distraction, according to Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones. 'The Dez situation has a lot of moving parts to it,' Jones said. 'The chemistry between Dak (Prescott) and Dez is different between Tony (Romo) and Dez. Tony and Dez had their game tailored to one another. Dak doesn't play the way Tony played. It's a work in progress. The other thing that we all see and it is certainly visible to anyone who watches our games, watches our sideline, is Dez is certainly a fiery guy who plays with a lot of emotion both on and off the field. Sometimes that can be a distraction.'

Bryant has been a handful for the Cowboys ever since he was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said at the Senior Bowl on Tuesday that the team had no plans on moving on from Bryant. They'll continue to deal with his distractions on and off the field.

Source: The Buffalo News - Mark Gaughan

Wyoming QB Josh Allen measured at 6-foot-4 7/8, 237 pounds with a 10 1/8 hand size at the Senior Bowl Tuesday, Jan. 23.

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen certainly looks the part of a franchise quarterback. He's big, has a strong arm and is athletic enough to threaten a defense as a runner. Allen had poor accuracy in college at Wyoming, and historically that's something that doesn't take leaps and bounds in a positive direction in the pros. Even with that huge question mark about his accuracy, Allen might be the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Wyoming QB Josh Allen said he wants to be the guy that turns around the Cleveland Browns. 'To think about that and to put yourself in that situation and in those shoes, you gotta love that as a quarterback and you gotta love that as a football player and competitor,' Allen said. 'This is something that can really be set in stone forever, if you're the guy that can help turn this Cleveland Browns team around. I know they've got the youngest team in the NFL, they've got the most cap space, the most high draft picks, brand new GM who has done a lot of good things in his past.'

                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Allen is saying all the right things at the Senior Bowl. He sounds like a franchise quarterback, and he's certainly built like a franchise quarterback. If the Browns were able to trade for Alex Smith (Chiefs), then drafting Allen would make sense as he'd get time for much-needed development.

Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent RB Le'Veon Bell could be a target for the Oakland Raiders, according to The MMQB's Peter King.
                            [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
The Raiders offense would certainly get some punch if Bell was added via free agency. The Steelers could always franchise tag Bell for the second year in a row, but he's expressed thoughts of retirement if that was the case. In order to make room for Bell, the Raiders would likely have to part ways with Marshawn Lynch. In 2018, Lynch has a cap hit of $5.9 million but there is zero remaining in dead money.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Nick Foles (ribs) said he did have X-Rays on his injured ribs but said the ribs are 'great.'

The X-rays are just a precaution. This injury was considered minor after the game, and the 'great' feeling that Nick Foles has is because he's headed to the Super Bowl as the starter for the Eagles.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley was named offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns Wednesday, Jan. 24. The Browns also hired special teams coordinator Amos Jones and running backs/associate head coach Freddie Kitchens.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Haley ended his time in Pittsburgh in a disappointing way with bizarre playcalling in the Divisional Round against the Jaguars. He had a frosty relationship with Ben Roethlisberger, but working with the Browns quarterback (whoever that is) will be different. While Roethlisberger is the seasoned veteran, the Browns are likely to have a young (rookie?) quarterback under the guidance of Haley in 2018.

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is expected to return to the team in 2018, according to team owner Jerry Jones.

Jones said the team doesn't have any plans to move on from Bryant. His actions have been a distraction for a team on and off the field. Bryant, a first-round pick in 2010, has been a bit of a handful for the Cowboys since he was drafted. However, Jones doesn't seem intent to change things for Bryant.

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent WR Jarvis Landry is set to hit the free-agent market this offseason. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero pointed out that the Dolphins have not once said they would like to re-sign Landry. Last year Miami repeatedly declared they wanted to bring back WR Kenny Stills when he was a free agent.

JAX - WR Marqise Lee on his way out?

                                      Source: The Florida Times-Union - Ryan O'Halloran

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent WR Marqise Lee is not expected to be re-signed, in the opinion of Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. Halloran posits that the mostly likely case for Lee being re-signed is if WR Allen Robinson is not retained. Another possibility is that WR Allen Hurns could be released in order to create $7 million more in salary cap space. Lee could also be asked to take a pay cut. However, with WRs Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole contributing well, Lee may be the odd man out.

Basically what this article is saying is that all things are possible when it comes to Lee and his future with the Jaguars. In a nutshell, if the Jaguars find a way to keep Robinson then Lee is the odd man out. If Robinson moves on, then the team could be more likely to keep Lee...or just move on from him with younger guys like Westbrook or Cole.

Jacksonville Jaguars impending free-agent WR Allen Robinson may be given the franchise tag if he is not signed to a multi-year deal, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.

Robinson missed almost all of the 2017 season with a torn ACL, but when healthy he can be a dominant receiver. We'll see if the team is willing to sign their 2014 second-round pick to a contract that pays him around $12 million annually. They have a group of young WRs behind Robinson like Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole they could turn to if Robinson is out of their price range.

Mayfield is listed at 6'1" on the Senior Bowl roster, but he didn't quite measure up. Guys like Russell Wilson, Case Keenum and Drew Brees have all proven that short quarterbacks can be effective starters in the pros. Mayfield is having a strong week of practice at the Senior Bowl and trying to work his way up the first round of the 2018 NFL draft.

BAL - BAL could renew WR Jarvis Landry interest

Source: The Baltimore Sun - Jeff Zrebiec

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent WR Jarvis Landry could strike renewed interest from the Baltimore Ravens, who inquired about his availability last offseason.

                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

A second-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Landry is set to hit the open market. The Dolphins haven't shown a ton of interest in signing him to a new deal, and the Ravens could use a ton of help at the position. Signing Landry will be pricey for whatever team ends up landing him, and he should command an annual salary over $10 million per year.

NYJ - QB Josh McCown intends to play in 2018

New York Jets impending free-agent QB Josh McCown is leaning toward playing in 2018 and is hopeful he can do so with the Jets.

McCown has been considering retirement according to reports, but now it sounds like he may keep playing. The Jets are likely to draft a quarterback with a premium pick this year, but McCown could stick as a valuable veteran backup or bridge starter until the rookie is ready.

CAR - Norv Turner talks up RB Christian McCaffrey

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey 'had an unbelievable rookie year and did a lot more than that a lot of people would be asked to do and handled (it) all,' offensive coordinator Norv Turner said.

Turner should love working with McCaffrey. He's a dangerous weapon who can be used in multiple different ways. Fantasy owners can be sure that Turner is going to continue to get great production from McCaffrey, maintaining his high-end RB2 status in PPR leagues.

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield would not say if he will play in the 2018 Senior Bowl but appears to happy with the way he has performed during practices.

The game is less important than the practices, which is why most GMs, coaches and analysts are gone by Thursday night. Mayfield showed a lot this week, and impressed in interviews by all accounts. There's a long way to go but he could be a high draft pick this April.

We're not concerned about Brady's availability - or ability - for the Super Bowl. He showed us last week he is capable of playing with stitches in his hand and another two weeks will only help him heal.

He's going to see a lot of use against the Patriots in a week and a half.

Miami Dolphins impending free-agent WR Jarvis Landry said contract negotiations are moving along, but slowly. Landry said he's not worried about the negotiation process and will let it take care of itself, adding that he would love to stay with the Dolphins.

Several journalists around Miami have postulated this won't get done but there's a long way to go before that eventuality happens. That said, rhetoric from both sides sound like the team wants him to take a team-friendly deal while Landry isn't feeling all that friendly. Given the issues at quarterback in Miami the past few years, Landry could be more productive elsewhere.

He did a great job with Case Keenum in Minnesota, but there's a world of difference between head coaching and being a coordinator. Some guys try to do both and the result is not doing either well. We'll see if Shurmur can manage the balancing act. Of course, if the offensive line isn't fixed it might not matter.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will meet with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and general manager Chris Ballard for a second time Friday, Jan. 26.

                                        [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]
It feels very much like McDaniels is the choice in Indianapolis. One assumes he has learned from his mistakes in Denver, and we know he can manage young quarterbacks, so this could be a good fit for both parties. If Andrew Luck is healthy, McDaniels might be just the guy to get him back on track.

He said he tore his lateral collateral ligament in addition to his anterior cruciate ligament during the season.

Wentz might be the #1 quarterback in dynasty leagues right now, but it will be risky to draft him early in redraft leagues with the possibility that he is rusty early in the season and not as mobile as a runner or scrambler in his return from ACL surgery. A Week 1 return is a good goal for him, but the team will certainly err on the side of caution, making it far from guaranteed.

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield said he has had extensive meetings with the New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills, New York Jets and Miami Dolphins at the 2018 Senior Bowl.

The Saints seem like an obvious fit with their success starting another short quarterback Drew Brees and the need for a post-Brees plan. The Bills are obvious because it doesn't seem like Tyrod Taylor is a long term answer. The Jets have one of the most glaring holes at quarterback in the league. Miami is the interesting team here with Ryan Tannehill still entrenched as the starter despite missing 2017 with an ACL tear.

Reid revealed that he called the plays in the season finale in Denver, which is especially notable because rookie Patrick Mahomes started that game - and he could be the starter next season. Reid made sure to point out that this isn't a reflection of his view of new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Reid's playcalling in 2016 wasn't exactly inspiring, but if Mahomes is his quarterback, it could get looser.

Haley's playcalling in Pittsburgh was mostly lauded and thought of as successful. Jackson's offenses have been uneven at best, and barely functional at worst, so this can't be a bad thing for the Browns skill players' fantasy outlook next season.

NYG - QB Eli Manning sticking around?

                                              Source: NJ.com - Dan Duggan

New York Giants QB Eli Manning 'has years left,' according to head coach Pat Shurmur, who says he's excited to work with him.

                                              [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

Manning was thought to be on the way out after being benched, but it sounds like the Giants are going to stick with him, which would deprive the Jaguars of an option to pivot to if they are ready to move on from Blake Bortles. Manning would only be a matchup streamer as a starter this year, but it would be better for Odell Beckham and company in fantasy leagues if he is the starter instead of a rookie. This could also lower the chances that Case Keenum rejoins Shurmur if the Vikings don't choose to lock him up before free agency opens.

We think it's just a matter of time before he is cleared. There's still a week, so we are not too worried. Most everyone seems to expect Gronkowski to play. Stay tuned for official word.

NYG - Two could be Giants OC candidates

Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Duce Staley and former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin could be candidates for the New York Giants offensive coordinator position, in the opinion of SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.

                                                      [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ [ FOOTBALLGUYS VIEW ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ] ]

New head coach Pat Shurmur is calling the offense this next year, so how much it matter who is in charge only nominally important. However, it makes sense a first time or relatively inexperienced offensive coordinator could take the job to learn under Shurmur for a year or so before taking over play calling duties.

Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski is expected to be a strong candidate for the New York Giants offensive coordinator position, according to a source.

It's not a shock since new head coach Pat Shurmur is from the Vikings. Stefanski has been overlooked, but he had a lot to do with Case Keenum's success this season. This would be a good hire.
