And remember he already had Tommy John surgery once and has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since coming back.

Yeah, amazing he tossed seven scoreless innings last night while pitching with some discomfort. Then again it was the Rays. ZING.

Speaking of Rays, if this turns out to be serious, paging David Price.

That's obviously great news. Doesn't mean is can't be something else serious though.

Ok there is no ligament damage, the UCL is just fine. The pain is on the outside of the elbow, similar to Tennis Elbow. Listen to Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak conversation with KMOX here: http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2014/06/...medium=twitter

Maybe not even, they will know more in couple of days. May hold him out Monday just as precaution.

Believe me there is no shortage of guys willing to step in and take Waino's place. One guy gets hurt and somebody else gets the opportunity of a life time. Business as usual.

Adam Wainwright was given a cortisone shot Wednesday for the discomfort in his right elbow.

The Cardinals will make a decision about Wainwright's scheduled Monday start on either Friday or Saturday. It seems likely that they will skip their heavily-used ace, but maybe not. Wainwright flew back to St. Louis from Tampa Bay on Tuesday night after experiencing discomfort on the outside of his pitching elbow. Ligament damage has been ruled out, and the thought is that he's dealing with something similar to tennis elbow. He has a 2.15 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 100 1/3 innings this season.

They should give him a rest right now until after the all-star game so that he can come back strong for the 2nd half of the season.

Wainwright will do some throwing today (Saturday) and the Cardinals will then evaluate his status for Monday. Seems that at the very least he will get pushed back several days if not skipped over altogether, which in the whole scheme of things is actually great news considering what could have been.

Adam Wainwright (elbow) will do some throwing Saturday before the Cardinals determine whether he'll make his scheduled start Monday.

Wainwright was given a cortisone injection Wednesday in hopes that it will knock out the discomfort on the outside of his elbow. Although the club hasn't ruled out Waino starting Monday, the smart money would be on them playing things cautiously and at least pushing him back. Thursday's off day would allow them to shuffle their rotation around a bit.

At least it wasn't the UCL in this case, which would have meant Tommy John. Waino will be fine sooner rather than later.

More like a "committee" game. Martinez probably won't go more than three innings and rookie Nick Greenwood will probably be second pitcher in line.

Waino will throw a bullpen session today for his tendinitis in his elbow. He will pitch this weekend if he gets through today's session with no issues.

Yep, and indications are that if all goes well he will start Saturday, not Sunday. So injury must have really been minor (unless elbow flares up in bullpen session obviously).

Waino starts today as expected, but Wacha will miss his start tomorrow to limit his innings. Carlos Martinez will likely start tomorrow in Wacha's place.
