Is Houston Nutt (Ole Miss) on Hot Seat?
Many Ole Miss fans were not happy with Nutt bringing in a "thug" quarterback last season. Add to that a disappointing 4-8 season and some rebel fans are a little restless. Nutt did open at Ole Miss with two back-to-back 9-4 seasons but much of that goodwill seems to have been forgotten after last season.

Last year's Rebel defense ranked 107th out of 120 schools. With only 3 starters returning, the defense could suffer again. Nutt also has to break in a new quarterback to go with just 6 returning starters.

The Rebs have a ton of question marks and another bad season seems likely. Could it be getting warm down there in Oxford, Mississippi for the Nutt?

I think Nutt gets a free pass this season because of all of the losses, especially on defense. Even though it is hard to imagine them finishing any higher than the cellar of the SEC West, it is possible, though unlikely, that Ole Miss can win 6 games. They get La. Tech, Southern Illinois, and notoriously slow starting BYU at home for non-con games. They also get Vandy and Kentucky along with a home game against Georgia from the SEC East. If they can beat Fresno State in California, they may have a shot at a bowl game.

Bigdaddy, after watching the Ole Miss spring game, I wouldn't bet this team will beat Vanderbilt or Kentucky, much less the really good teams.

Nutt came in and did well with the previous coach players, but seems to be struggling with his own recruits. Quarterback Nathan Stanley, who was the starter last year until Nutt brought in the Oregon quarterback is transferring. The QB's there now are hit and miss to me. Plus, I'm not sure the defense will be any better this year.

He should be. He turned a top 10 pick into an off the board CFL backup QB.

Snead just sucked period. Not Nutt's fault. The only one that thought Snead was a top 10 pick was Todd McShay. I'm a better talent evaluator than that idiot

Didnt Snead leave early.....Houston Nutt fails to realize that to win it all you have to have an exceptional Defense

Ole Miss will have the worst defense in the SEC. The defense was bad last year and will be worse this season. I don't know what's going on in Oxford.

Nutt always had a knack for beating a few teams unexpectedly and then losing a few when expectations were higher. He has already gotten more rope than Cutcliffe did when he was the Rebels coach. Cutcliffe was fired after his first losing season.

That is why I give Ole Miss a fighters chance at winning six games. Nutt is going to have to perform a miracle with his defense though. They were bad last season, and have no experience this season. Still, Ole NMiss has upset some teams in the past, so you just never know.

I actually wrote a preview of Ole Miss for SBR recently and found 6-6 to be a best-case scenario. Kind of shocked that they're a 50-1 play to win the BCS Title according to bodog. . .those are the same odds as Miss. State, and the Bulldogs have a much better team. Here's a link to my article:

The fact that they lose so many starters from a "D" that was ranked 107th can't hurt that much. I mean how much worse can these new guys be? Good luck Ole' Miss fans you guys really will need some and get rid of that NUTT.
