PSA: syracuse defense is not that good

syracuse played colgate, maine and akron obviously it brings their numbers down. when they played any team whose offense had a heartbeat (washington, pitt, uconn and louisville even) they had decent size numbers hung on their "solid defense"

guess what those 3 teams had in common? They were all ranked higher in rushing offense than passing. Guess what kansas state has ranked higher?

average rank of opponents rushing offense: 77.2
average opponents rushing y/g: 136.52

games where syracuse lost:
average rank of opponents rushing offense: 50
average opponents rushing y/g: 202.55

kansas state is ranked 20th in rushing with an average of 206 y/g
that includes beating UCF who is ranked 7th in rushing D

not saying Kstate will definately win because syracuse has had a lot of time to prepare and turnovers can happen. Just trying to state that syracuse D isn't as amazing as their "points allowed" ranking

I think all of the Big East defenses get too much hype for their rankings - they all beat up on each other with some very mediocre offenses. End of the day, they have to score points to win ... I don't know if 'Cuse can score enough to win here.

Agree, very good points.
Also, Syracuse is a dome team out in the cold today, K State plays outdoors, used to cold weather smash mouth football.
K State has veteran coach Snyder back, 2nd yr he got them to a bowl game and he knows what it takes to win.
K State should control the ball with running and short passes, Syracuse "O" is not explosive.
Big East is down, WV got pounded and though Louisville did cover they were very fortunate against a CUSA team.

Syracuse had trouble scoring even 20 points a game in the finals months indoors. The cuse will have trouble getting to 20 in this game as well.

it has nothing to do with the cold it has to do with exactly what you said.... first bowl game in years, inexperienced bowl coach with the pressure of being in NY for first bowl game ever. with an already medicore offense. they will press and the pressure will get to them.
