State always plays FSU tough. I'm a state homer and I like FSU from a numbers stand point but for some reason we ALWAYS hang tough with FSU. And it seems like we always play them on Thursdays.

I like the 1H over 28. Feel like both teams come out swinging and put up points before FSU takes over

I like the coaching staff for FSUl. He has the right mind set and has his team playing as a team. He is tough, my money is on FSU tonite buying the half point down to a three pt game

The winner in this Atlantic Division showdown can't lock up a trip to Charlotte, N.C., for the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 4, but it can start checking travel fares since it will be in control of its fate. The Seminoles have won the past three meetings, including a 45-42 shootout last year. This one could be just as wild. The Wolfpack, led by QB Russell Wilson (170-of-294 for 2,124 yards and 18 touchdowns), is second in the league in scoring (36 points per game); the Seminoles are third (34.9). Wilson threw for 349 yards and a career-best five touchdowns in last year's loss. But Wilson, who set the NCAA mark with 379 consecutive passes without an interception (in 2008-09) then started this season by going 136 straight without a pick, has thrown nine in his last 158 attempts.

                    Brian Landman, Times staff writer

Florida State at N.C. State, 7:30 p.m., ESPN

                    WATCH OUT FOR …

Senior MLB Nate Irving, a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, leads N.C. State in tackles (46) and tackles for a loss (81/2). He missed all of last season after a car accident in June 2009. "He's probably exceeded our expectations, especially last year, thinking he would never play college football again," coach Tom O'Brien said.

                        Florida State-NC State Preview Capsule

                        The Associated Press,

                        Thursday:

                        No. 16 Florida State (6-1, 4-0 ACC) at North Carolina State (5-2, 2-1), 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)

Line: Florida State by 3 1/2.

Series Record: Florida State leads 21-9.

Last Meeting: 2009, Florida State 45-42.

                        WHAT'S AT STAKE

Control of the Atlantic Division race, for both teams. The Seminoles are the only team in that division with a spotless ACC record, and would take a critical step toward locking up a spot in the league title game with a win. N.C. State wants to show that its loss at East Carolina two weeks ago was a fluke and that it should be taken seriously in its pursuit of its first division crown.

                        KEY MATCHUP

Florida State QB Christian Ponder vs. N.C. State's defense. Ponder seemingly has always enjoyed facing the Wolfpack, completing 68 percent of his passes in winning both of his starts against them. But he's been bothered lately by a ruptured bursa in his throwing elbow, and N.C. State's improved defense wants to show it's better against the pass than it was two weeks ago, when it allowed East Carolina to throw for 376 yards and two scores in an upset loss.

                        PLAYERS TO WATCH

Florida State: WR Bert Reed has scored go-ahead touchdowns in each of the last two meetings with N.C. State, catching a scoring pass in 2008 in Raleigh and taking a reverse 3 yards for the winning TD in the final minutes last year.

N.C. State: QB Russell Wilson leads the ACC in yards passing and total offense, but the NCAA record-holder for most consecutive passes thrown without an interception has been picked off eight times in his last three games.

                        FACTS & FIGURES

Each of the Seminoles' previous three visits to Raleigh also were Thursday night games, with those games decided by an average of 6.7 points. Only one of the past eight meetings has been decided by more than 10 points: Florida State's 27-10 win in 2007. ... The Seminoles have the ACC's top scoring defense, while the Wolfpack are tops in passing and total offense.
