As an Alabama fan, who almost vomitted at the thought of playing TCU last year as Texas almost choked the Big 12 away, I am actually pulling for us and Boise to go undefeated. I originally hoped to meet up with and OU or Ohio State in the BCS, but now, I honestly want to play Boise St for it all. Both teams get a month to prepare then duke it out. I hope we put up 40+ on them and run away with it from the get go, just so I can hear Kirk and Brent say "it sure is impressive to see the fight in the Boise players, they gave it their all" BS.
As some Bama fans pointed out, last year we beat Va Tech, in a neutral site 34-24. We were #3, they were #7. ESPN/ABC acknowledged our win, said we played well, and Va Tech is still going to be tough. This year, when the #3 team beats the #10 team, in the final minutes of the game, it's open the floodgates, these guys are for real, everybody eat your heart out, yada yada yada. Its not so much that I need the ESPN/ABC talking heads to build us up because I knew what I saw and realized we had a chance at being special, its just the way they go overboard on pimping Boise St is near sickening and close to idolatry.
Boise would be an upper-middle of the pack team in the Pac 10 (I use the Pac 10 sense geographically it makes the most sense, and it's retarded to even use the SEC or Big Ten as the argument for these guys), comparable to Oregon. They'd have good years with 10-11 wins, and suffer some tough ones with only 7-8 wins, but they would never surpass USC (unless Kiffin stays for more than, say, 4 years(g) Put Boise in any major conference and they will see the difference in opening a season up against a top ten school and going on a three game stretch of playing vs Oregon, at Cal, and vs Stanford.
Forget about the SEC, if you had to play the bottom 6 teams (3 away, 3 home) from any major conference consecutively, you'd find it tough to win 5. Thats why teams like Bama, UF, OU, UTex, USC, and OSU when they go undefeated it is so impressive, and when they lose only once they still have such a good case for being deserving for the championship.Last edited by allenc85; 09-07-10, 10:16 PM.Comment -

You have lost your mind. Vanderbilt could go undefeated with Boise's bs schedule. Vatech is the most over rated program in the country. They can't beat a top 10 team if their life depended on it. Not a good barometer. Boise's players were getting worn out by VT the other night and if stupid ass Frank Beamer didn't spot them 17 points, they would have lost easily.

Boise would win 8-10 games a year in the SEC. They would have an easy out of conference schedule, getting them 4 wins. Throw in 3 or 4 vs UK, Vandy, Arky, SC, MSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, and you're getting 7-8 wins. Beat 1 good SEC team and they've got 8 wins.Comment -
I would not dare guess how good Boise is until proven otherwise. How can one say they could never hang in the SEC without seeing if they could or not throughout a season? I guess it would be considered Speculation at this time. They have won plenty of big games. They are a winner. Winners get good things coming their way. That is the way I look at it. These threads are classic...1st off, this is a gambling site and Boise St. is MONEY, 2ndly there fun as hell to watch and always give a good effort.
They have consecutive undefeated seasons, even the best MAC teams lose to other MAC teams over consecutive seasons to stay undefeated deserves props
Its funny all the SEC backers ... hmmm I've seen some really SHITTY SEC games that werent even worth watching that I had MONEY on...LSU, Auburn, Miss St, Vanderbuilt, my god those teams are so unimaginitive I'd rather stay up all night to watch Bosie St then watch them in primetime
Didnt Boise beat Oaklahoma a few years back, run the table for 2 consecutive years THEN just beat VT this past week?

Living in the South I always hear this argument day in and day out... I agree that depth in the upper tier of the SEC and BIGXII is impressive but I do think people lose sight on several things... Parity is the norm now in college football... People want to bash the WAC and these other small conferences but they discount results as well... Utah St seemed like they could compete pretty well against a deep Oklahoma squad the other night... I would venture to guess that most of you would consider them to be a cupcake...
Boise State has always had the anywhere/anytime mentality and yes they did get beat by UGA a few years back but that was also their worst year in the last 8 years... They beat a Va Tech team that I would think has a very good chance of winning the ACC this year and they beat them virtually on the road while not playing their best game... How many penalties did Boise have? They missed an XP and FG and ran into the kicker that negated a missed FG that turned into a TD... That is a lot of adversity to overcome yet they did it...
I think we all need to recognize that Utah, Boise, TCU etc are very formidable opponents and should be respected...
We all have stinkers in our conferences... just ask Ole Miss or Kansas who just lost to FCS teams... You can't judge a conference's overall strength by by 1 or 2 top teams...Comment -
Sorry just can't agree with this... as someone very close to the Vanderbilt program... you are way off base... If you said Arkansas then you may have a point but Vandy is not a good football team... they were very lucky to even be in the game against Northwestern the other night and had to have several huge breaks to do so...

Its still hard to go 12-0 in the season! It does not matter even if you face the worst teams!! A QB can be great in practice all week, but can struggle on game time!!! S
So if Boise St. does go 12-0 they deserve a title shoot. If Boise St. are in SEC, do you think Alabama can go 12-0 or Florida go 12-0???
The only reason people are picking on Boise St is that they have an easy schedule, but it is still very hard to go 12-0!!!!!!!

Let's put it this way. NO SEC team plays that tough of a schedule. They schedule 3 patsies or more a year for non-con games. Then they get to play patsies like VAndy, Miss.State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Boise State would easlily defeat every team in the SEC this season with the exception of Alabama and Florida. That includes Arkansas and Auburn. GEt overit SEC fans. YOu do not have enough guts to schedule teams like USC. Tennessee is going to get it kicked out of them by Oregon, a team that lost two games in a row to Boise State. Boise is the real deal. Stop your whining now. If Boise State and a BCS Conference team other than in the SEC go undefeated, and no SEC team does, no SEC team goes to the big game. Period. End of statement. End of discussion.Comment -

Teams can win/lose to anyone, that's a given but when your playing against less talent every week it makes a huge difference. Teams like Army and Boise for example, can get up for 1 or 2 big games a year while a team like Vandy has to bring it every week. Funny you mention Vandy's lost to Army. Did you mention they had to play Lsu, MSU, rice on the road, OM then Army on the road? By the time they got to Army they were a mash unit with injuries did you forget?) I'd love to see Boise do the same thing and come out unblemished? They'd lose 1 or 2 games for sure. Then Vandy played UGA and USC right after. Good luck with that Boise.
I'm pretty close to Vandy's program as well and even though they were in shambles a few weeks ago, they play very smart, disciplined football. They have much more depth than Boise and overall better players (check the recruiting rankings). The one advantage Boise has (and it's a huge one) is Petersen. He is one of the best coaches in the game. Boise is a little lower in talent level than Vanderbilt. Vandy would be winning the WAC each year with adequate coaching. Don't get it twisted.
Look again at BSU's schedule and tell me which teams would beat Vandy?? VaTech? I think that would be a good game to be honest but VaTech has zero offense with just 2 players that Vandy would shut down. Oregon St? . OSU also has only 2 playmakers on the entire team. Vandy would shut both teams down on offense. Both those games would be fairly close and I think Vandy would definitely win one if not both especially scheduled early in the season because both OSU and VaTech make too many mistakes.
Boise has 10 guys in the pro's. most SEC teams have 3 or 4 times that amount. It's like comparing the dream team to the others. Yes they can win a 1 game winner take all but your crazy if you think they could beat several top talented teams all in a row. Ohio State for example has to play PSU, Iowa and Michigan back to back to back. Boise would lose 2 of the 3 if not all 3.Comment -

I think it is a laugh how you defend Boise by brining USC into the mix. I believe you realize one of the conferences Boise could do well in is the PAC-10 ( a very soft conference) Boise would falter under the physical pounding endured in a season in the SEC. How can you say that a team should get a shot at the championship after winning ONE game, the first game at that. If Bama wins this SAT. then all will say "okay thats 2, who is next?" not that should get us to the big dance. For everyone to say that Mondays game was for it all for Boise was absurd. at no time did anyone say "if Vatech wins they will be in the big game" Give me a break

Boise St. Coach even admitted they'd lose a few because of injuries if they played in SEC. However, they should be given a chance in some kind of playoff system to prove they can string together several quality wins and win a true national championship. I don't think with their schedule they deserve a shot at a one game winner take all championship game.Comment
