New study of 1861 Games shows ANY bad weather makes huge difference!
Many of you have stated or believe that mildly bad weather does not
    effect football games. Think again...

Just found an interesting study of 1861 NFL games that shows that almost any bad weather greatly effects totals.

In many cases drastically. This study doesn't even factor in "Passing Teams"
which of course have a much harder time in bad weather.

It does seem to show that all football teams do worse in bad weather.

    Here is the link.

Here are some sample "facts" from the study.
In 1861 games average Points Per Game was 42.0
    - When there was "Rain or Snow" average total was just 37.
    - With cross winds totals dropped to as low as 31.

    "Passing"
college teams should be hugely effected.... which interests me greatly.
    What is your Opinion?

Interesting, but to say that the games are hugely effected is a gross overstatement. Notice how more points are scored in games with "light snow" than no snow at all, or games played indoors? The wind has a lot more to do with affecting a score than rain or snow does, unless you are playing in a bilzzard, or a monsoon.

great info there, thanks for sharing. I think there should be more info on the games they studied and the years, so because if you have totals 34-24, 10-7, 21-17, 40-14, the avg will be in the low 40s but it doesnt show a true tendency of the games, just an average of the points, but great info nonetheless

I can take no credit for a google search of weather and NFL however their is a
SBR poster who has all the info your looking for.

His name is Flying Dutchman and he has a huge WX database.
(but no conclsions or data he wants to share with you...)
