If you look at there schedule for this upcoming season, 2010-11. The Gators leave the state of Florida just three times. At Vandy, at Tenn. also at Bama, that's it. If they could jell early on, it could be A really nice year. Something like 12-1, 11-2 something like that. Sugar Bowl or better !

This is a typical Florida schedule. Florida refuses to leave the State for a non-con game. This is why they never play quality non-con opponents like Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, etc... Last year they leftthe stte 4 times. The year before, 3 times.
REviewing their schedule, they do go to Alabama, Tennessee and to Florida State this year. They also play LSU at home. The annual game against Georgia may be tougher than expected because Georgia should be much improved this year. With all the losses that Florida suffered due to graduation and defects to the NFL, I can see Florida losing between 2 and 4 games this season. There are a lot of teams wanting revenge this season, and Florida is a ripe for the pickings as they will be in the next couple of years.Comment -
He is not even close to the Pac 10 QB's. Luck at Stanford, and Barkley at USC will be much better than Brantley. Then there is the possibility of Massoli returning to Oregon, if he can keep out of trouble and does not decide to turn pro. Then you have Prior at Ohio State, if he returns in 2011, and Forcier. Two Big 10 QB, that should improve with another season under their belt. Then there is the kid Gilbert, at Texas. He looks like he will be outstanding in 2011.
Now Brantley will have the advantage of a totally pussy non-con schedule that Florida plays in 2011. Four home games against Florida Atlantic, UAB, Furman, and Florida State is nothing short of a total disgrase. My local High School team can beat three of those teams. Again, what this shows is that Florida is afraid to play the top teams outside the SEC. This also means that Florida will continue to lose face with the voters, because of this terrible schedule. So Bantley's stock immediately drops if he does not throw 5 T.D. passes in each of those games.Comment -
We had a lengthy discussion about this last season. Until there is incentive for them to schedule tougher opponents, Florida won't. It's crappy, but it's smart. They do play Miami and USF down the road, but they will be the last SEC team to start scheduling OOC opponents like LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee do. You'll hear the counter argument that they play at a neutral site in Jacksonville, are matched up with LSU, and play Florida State every year but that's weak because Georgia meets Georgia Tech every year, SC meets Clemson, and both schools schedule 1-2 other BCS schools OOC every year. UGA is matched up with Auburn and Tennessee is matched up with Alabama and 'Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU usually schedule 2 BCS teams as well.
All that said, the Gators schedule this year is tougher than usual...but after this year they'll continue to schedule Eastern Key West Tech and Cuban Sandwich State on their OOC schedule.

I agree with that. While I do not have their in conference schedule for 2011, I know that they play LSU every year, so they will be playing in Baton Rouge in 2011. I believe that they also play Alabama, but that game would be at home. Their non-con schedule is very easy, with Florida State being their only real challenge. They also get Florida State at home. They will play 8 games at home, and one in Jacksonville, against Georgia. They will get Tennessee at home also. This certainly is a schedule that they can run the table with. Their three away games will be at South Carolina, at Kentucky, and at one SEC West team possibly Miss. State.Comment -

Dane makes an excellent point. Why should Florida risk losing a non-con game if they can get away with playing patsies and still have a great shot at going to the Championship game. It is time that the S.O.S. be returned to the formula's in the computer rankings. This is the only way that teams will schedule good non-con games with the current format. Florida is not the only team to do this. Just look at USC's non-con schedule coming up. Other than Notre Dame, teams like Minnesota, Syracuse, Hawaii and Virginia are their opponents for the next 3 years. Many FBS teams play 1 decent FBS opponent, and a bunch of FBS and FCS patsies.Comment -

Getting back to this year, if anyone wants to beat Florida, this is the year they can do it. Next year, their schedule gets a lot easier, and they will be returning a lot of players at the skilled positions. HC Meyer has really not been himself lately, so who knows what will go on this year. So teams like Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, and Alabama, here is your shot. With the exception of Georgia, the rest of these teams get Florida at home, and UGA gets them at a neutral site. That all reverses in 2011, except for the UGA game in Jacksonville. LSU, you may have to travel to Florida, but revenge is sweet when you pull it off on the road. Considering you play Florida the week after their trip to 'Bama, you may have a great shot here.Comment -

Georgia? Certainly. Tennessee? Four months ago I would have said yes, but after Kiffin left, and Dooley too over the HC job, the wheels seem to have fallen off the wagon. Three critical defenctions have crippled the offense, which had enough problems trying to score last season. Both lines are very thin. I really do not know what is going on at Tennessee, but whatever it is, it certainly is not good. I can not see Tennessee defeating Florida in the immediate future. Certainly not this year, or in 2011. Tennessee will do well to get more than 6 wins this season. They can easily start the season at 2-6. Having to play Oregon the week before Florida will not help things at all.Comment -

It is a more competitive schedule than they have played in a long time, but as long as Florida refuses to leave the State for a non-con home and home series against major competition, they will never gain the respect of many. They still have Miami (Oh) and App State on their home schedule.Comment -

The SEC is going to be down this season. Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky and Vandy all would finish in the 2nd half of the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 10, and probably the ACC. Mississippi and Mississippi State are going to be weak. LSU and Auburn are going to be "iffy". That leaves Florida and UGA to battle it out in the East, and Alabama and Arkansas to fight it out in the West. Next year I expect to see improvment in the SEC, but this year is the year to fade them in early non-con games.Comment -

If I read you correctly, you want me to break down the last 5 seasons and rank the conferences in each season. Let me see what I can do. And debate is good. This is how we learn. Knowledge is critical to success. I will just add my findings into this thread. I ase my findings on how each team fared against other non-con BCS teams and how they did against any team in a BCS Bowl Game.
I will start with 2008 because I have those stats handy:
1. Pac 10. They swept their bowl games, and ended up +4 on my scale.
2. Big 12. They did well, but not quite enough to beat out the Pac 10. +3.
3. ACC. They did O.K., eeking out a +1. Bowl games hurt them.
4. SEC. They broke even. Too many upsets hit them.
5. Big East. While they did well overall, they played so many weak BCS teams, it did not matter.
6. Big 10. By far and away the worst of the BCS Conferences, coming in at -6. A 1-6 Bowl record killed them.

It doesn't look like an unusual schedule to me. I think they're going to have some real tests in the SEC. It's going to be a trying season, they may come out on top 11-1, 10-2. I would say more realistically 9-3 or 8-4.Comment -
