Florida St (+120)
Florida State drives me crazy. You never know what they are going to do. However, this pick is more about UNC than it is Florida St. Yates has tossed 7 picks this year and the UNC run game hasn't been productive either. There offense cannot move the football. However, Florida State's defense hasn't been impressive this year at all. Even so, I think FSU has the weapons on offense to win this thing in a shootout if need be. While UNC's defense has been steady all year only allowing over 20 points once to a good Ga Tech team, I think FSU will present a problem to the UNC secondary and allow Ponder to hit some big passes. I think Florida State goes on the road and gets a big win to ease some of the pressure on Bowden for at least a week.
South Florida (+6.5)
Pitt has been playing well all season with their only lost coming on the road to an unpredictable NC State team. Stull has been much more consistent in the passing game throwing 14 TDS to only 3 picks thanks in part to his outstanding wide receivers, Dickerson and Baldwin. The talented freshmen Dion Lewis has also been a huge factor in the early success of Pitt. However, South Florida is a very good football team who's only lost came to a top 5 Cincy team who is clearly the best of the Big East. Pitt's defense struggles against mobile quarterbacks. NC St's Russell Wilson was able to scramble and buy time against a good Pitt front and lead a sub-par Wolfpack team to a win earlier this year. I think B.J. Daniels has the mobility and speed to do the same thing in this one. South Florida's defense will also be the best unit this Pitt offense has faced thus far this season with due respect to the Uconn Huskies. I like SFla's chance at the outright win but will take the points to be safe.
La Tech (+105)
La Tech has been improving with each game thus far. Derek Dooley is doing a great job with the Bulldogs and will be in-line for a promotion to a big time program if he keeps this up. La Tech plays great defense and the secondary is very capable of holding Stanley Morrison in check in this one. While Utah St is much better than their 1-5 record indicates, I think they will struggle with the speed and aggressiveness of the La Tech front. The Aggies played a tough game against a BYU team but then came out and laid a complete egg against New Mexico St. Just not the type of consistency I like to see in my teams. While La Tech hasn't won on the road yet, you have to look at who the loses were too. Auburn, Navy, and Nevada. Not bad loses if you ask me. I think the Bulldogs go into Logan and gets a big win for Coach Dooley.
Ole Miss (-5.5)
Arkansas has been an offensive juggernaut with the exception of the Alabama game that I will give them a pass on since I consider Alabama to have the best defense in the country. However, how much can the Hogs have left after that Florida game? This is a classic let down situation for the Razorbacks. Ole Miss basically had a bye last week with UAB. With this being the last of a 3 game homestand for the Rebels, I expect Houston Nutt to have these boys ready to play. The Rebels defense has been really good compared to years past. The secondary will be tested big time by the big arm of Ryan Mallett but I think the Ole Miss line will erase the Arkansas run game forcing Mallett to beat them with his arm. While Mallett is capable of this, I think the defense will be dropped back and waiting forcing Mallett into a few mistake that will be costly for the Hogs. Snead and McCluster do enough on offense and the Rebels feed off the home crowd to get a big SEC win.
Oklahoma (-7)
Kansas could be the most overrated team in the country. They have done nothing to deserve any credit and it showed up last week when the lowly Colorado Buffs knocked them off. Oklahoma, Bradford or not, is still a great football team. The Sooner defense is for real and will pressure the hell out of Reesing. He will be under duress all day and cough it up a few times. Landry Jones has filled in enough for Bradford that he knows the plays and has good timing with his receivers. The Sooners are going to come into Lawrence and run the Jayhawks out of the stadium. I expect this one to be a route.
Good Luck With All Your Plays this week. Hopefully we can cash a few.
