Thanks...im a FORMER PLAYER so of course im a fan and a season ticket holder! Saban is really pushing for former players to come back to the program....Like we just had a private meeting on Aug 22 after the scrimage in Byrant Denny and a 1999 SEC CHAMPION REUNION BACK IN JUNE.....I sold or gave away most tickets this year...I have Family reunion in Moblie, Al so we couldn't make the opening against V.Tech in Atlanta..but the tickets sold pretty well!!! ..Anyway, im going to (HC) vs S.Carolina to see Saban and the Ole Ball Coach and Tenn-Chat...If you going to any of those games we can hook up for sure....BOL this season!! What about yourself, Are you very involved in the program any more? Or are you just a fan and season ticket holder?

Yes, I am involved in the program. I would be considered a booster which I suppose means no fishing with Julio!!! I really don't want to get more specific than that on here. It sounds like we may have been at the same private meeting with Saban after the last scrimmage. The one I'm speaking of took place right after he gave his press conference.

I'm sure I will be at the games, but it's a bit early to say for sure. What part of the state do you live in?

You either take the under in this game or leave it alone altogether. Too many subplots. Tech is very thin at running back. I see a string of rb injuries a mile long. So more running out of the quarterback in this one. Anything can happen with Tyrod. The number is low for a reason. Bama knows that too. And Bama is not an offensive juggernaut. It's just Saban ball without an entire lockerroom of his OWN selected talent yet. But one thing is evident from last years' results. Saban is a diamond coach. However, so is Coach Beamer who gets more out of less, and is a cash cow in big games ( I know that personally) with the exception of Boston College. I like the under. Both defenses will show up.

BAMA NEWS FLASH!!!

FLU:

Some may have heard that Bama's mamouth Nose Tackle Terrance Cody came down with the flu. This is accurate, but it appears he has fully recovered, and was back in practice this past Saturday.
Having said that, the flu has been spreading and some other players have been affected. As of this writing, no other starters are sick, but this is a very fluid situation, and it certainly bears watching. The only player Bama really can't afford to lose is QB Greg McElroy. They are pretty much loaded with depth at all other positions.

Possible Julio Jones & Mark Ingram Suspensions:

Another situation that bears watching is the potential of starting WR Julio Jones & RB Mark Ingram being suspended for the first game due to a fishing trip they took together with a crippled man. I honestly think the chance of them being suspended is remote, however, the NCAA has yet to issue a ruling on the matter. It appears that if the NCAA drags its feet beyond Friday, they will play. But that is not a certainty.

Brandon Deaderick Shooting:

Lastly, as most of you know, starting DE Brandon Deaderick was shot last night in a robbery attempt. Although his injuries don't appear to be life threatening, I think there is almost no chance he plays Saturday. Bama is very deep on the DL so I think it will have a negligible effect on the game.

All of these situations bear watching between now and kickoff.

Also Utah has given everyone the blue print to beat Alabama. You hurry up offense on every play so Bama defense wont get set. Alabama defense was very undiscipline in that game. Just run a no huddle offense and you can put 30+ on that defense.

The #1 player Bama cannot afford lose is Greg McElroy. There is a significant drop off past him. Star Jackson has not proven he's a SEC caliber QB in my opinion. The loss of McElroy would have greatest negative impact in the VT game.

The #2 player that Alabama can't afford to lose is Julio. He is the best player on the team hands down, and nobody on the roster that can replace him. Bama has a lot of talent at the WR position, but clearly nobody can fill his shoes. The biggest problem for Bama is that much of the offensive game plan centers around him. Whoever replaces Julio is not someone the defense will have to dedicate additional assets to. That changes the dynamics of the game on that side of the ball significantly.

The loss of Cody would not have nearly the impact that McElroy or Julio would. Josh Chapman is an outstanding NT who also demands a double-team, and with Cody's injury last year, Chapman has played almost as many snaps as Cody has. Moreover, Cody is not an every down player. He's usually not in the game on passing situations. I'm not sure how Saban would utilize his personnel, but the biggest impact I foresee would be the risk of Chapman wearing down. Kerry Murphy is behind Chapman. He's an outstanding prospect, but has zero experience.

I disagree that VT would gain significantly more yards on the ground if Cody were not to play. In the 3-4, the linemen usually occupy the linemen while the linebackers make most of the tackles.

Well perhaps you're on to something about how to beat Bama's defense. Clearly they weren't ready for the no-huddle in the Utah game. I guess we'll see Saturday if VT will attempt to mirror Utah's strategy.
